2013 BOOK CHALLENGE! Are you in?

Goal: 50

Book #3: Something Wikkid This Way Comes by Nicole Peeler - urban fantasy

When I saw this I thought of Ray Bradbury's novel "Something Wicked This Way Comes" Now that is one scary book. At least it was when I read it years ago. Thanks to him, Carousels make me uneasy, lol.

#5 down - Gone Girl. Wow. Would love to have a discussion on that one with others that read it; don't want to spoil it for anyone, though.

I have Gone Girl on hold at the library. I think I might have a long wait tho, lol.

Me me me! Although some of the details are getting fuzzy in my brain, but the book as a whole will stick with me forever, whether I want it to or not, LOL!

I'm dying to discuss Defending Jacob!

Gosh, maybe we need a book club on here where all that have read a particular book can join in for discussion. :dance3:

That may not be such a bad idea since it sounds like so many people on here have loved both books, or have them on their reading lists.

Goal 30

Book 1 Jack and Jill by Louisa May Alcott

I have been rereading some of my childhood favorites. I enjoyed this book then and now but I was amazed that I remembered the story and the main "lesson" behind it but not certain moral issues it touched on. Definitely worth reading if you enjoyed Little Women.

Started Where We Belong by Emily Griffin

Count me in, too! Since I'm in school I'm going to keep my goal reasonable--24. I just got a Kindle Paperwhite, so am reading like crazy until the end of January when classes start. :woohoo:

I am ashamed to admit that's I am only 44 percent though my first book according to my kindle

You're still doing better than a friend of mine on here who is only 10% through their first book, lol. :bitelip:

You're just about halfway which is great considering it's only the 10th of January!!

This one of DD#2's favorite books. She's read it probably 50 times.

Stopped game of thrones midway because my library book club is reading the help. I should be done with it before the weekends over. I am really liking it so far. Will get back to game of thrones someday soon.

Goal 30
Book #1 completed Tiger's Voyage by Colleen Houck

This is the third book in the Tiger's Curse series (YA).

The story revolves around a teen girl, and two brothers from India who have been cursed for centuries. Her destiny is to help them break the curse, and each book is a phase of the journey.
I like the story, but I don't love it. At a lot of points in the books, it feels like you are just reading a bunch of filler material while nothing is actually happening.
I will finish out the series, because it will drive me nuts if I don't, LOL.

Goal: 24 books

#2. Love Anthony by Lisa Genova (Fiction)

I'm going to be a bit lazy, and copy the summary from B&N website:

"Im always hearing about how my brain doesnt work right. . . . But it doesnt feel broken to me.

Olivia Donatellis dream of a normal life shattered when her son, Anthony, was diagnosed with autism at age three. He didnt speak. He hated to be touched. He almost never made eye contact. And just as Olivia was starting to realize that happiness and autism could coexist, Anthony died.

Now shes alone in a cottage on Nantucket, separated from her husband, desperate to understand the meaning of her sons short life, when a chance encounter with another woman facing her own loss brings Anthony alive again for Olivia in a most unexpected way. In a piercing story about motherhood, autism, and love, Lisa Genova offers us two unforgettable women on the verge of change who discover the small but exuberant voice that helps them both find the answers they need."

My Review: I started this book back in November, but stopped after a few chapters because I wanted to read holiday themed books in Nov./Dec. So I picked back up a week ago.

This book was amazing....from the beginning you become really invested and care about these characters. Lisa Genova effortlessly connects the reader to the world of autism in a way that 'wows' you. As I got near the end of the book last night, I found that I couldn't put it down. I stayed up to finish it! I just love when stories grab you like that! :cloud9:

I'm a huge Lisa Genova fan. She has written two other books, Left Neglected, (about a woman who has the medical condition, Left Neglect), and Still Alice, (about a woman who gets early onset Alzheimer's disease), both of which I recommend. Because Lisa G. does have a neuroscience background, she does throw in some medical terms here and there.....but not in a way that would make you feel dumb! I love all that medical stuff anyway....I'm a huge Grey's Anatomy fan, and back in the day, ER. So I really like the medical topics that Lisa Genova writes about in her novels. :goodvibes

* Bought for my Nook. Well worth it! Too many people have it on hold at library....I couldn't wait!

Does anyone know how you can post a question in your group on Goodreads?

Ok just finished Cindy Gerard's Bodyguards Series. Read the Black Ops series last week. Very good for anybody that likes that genre. Does anybody have any romantic suspense recommendations? I prefer series books :)

Thanks :)

Lisa Jackson's books are considered romantic suspense. Just be careful --some of her older stuff is just romance novels -- I haven't read any of those.

I am about halfway done with 11/22/63, and I am loving it. It's a very long book but it is such a great read. Thanks to everyone who suggested it.

Wow some of you guys have really impressive goals! I need to start reading more. I was doing good over the summer/into the fall, but kind of fell off the bandwagon. Guess now is as good a time to jump in as ever! Sign me up for 13!

I've read a few of Lisa Jackson's books that are good. 'Left to Die', 'Chosen to Die' & 'Born to Die' & I think there is a fourth in that series.

Don't be ashamed. I'm not much further along than you, although I really, really hope to finish the book I'm reading now tomorrow night. I was aiming for tonight, but one thing led to another and now here it is already 11:14. :worried:
