Yacht Club Review by DisneyDoc5, June 2013

Hi Disers,
Just back from a week at Yacht Club and thought I would share our experience. We have stayed at Beach before and loved it.

1. Arrival: super nice, I did online check in, they greeted us and whisked us right to the desk, in our rooms within minutes and got connecting doors with our friends as requested.

2. Rooms: clean, fresh, love the decor, maybe even a touch more than BC. We are boaters to we like nautical theme, navy blue, etc. A little staining on the counter, behind the door, nothing major. Under the day bed was clean (which was not the case for our Poly stay). I asked for early service since we always come back in the pm and it was always done when we returned.

3. Staff - super!

4. Food - here is a major CON for us, the refillable mug situation stinks here. Until noon you can go to the little bar area in the lobby, then after that until 10ish you have to walk all the way out to Hurricane Hannah's. Sorry people, I am not lazy, but this is a pain, especially if it is raining! This may be enought for us to pick BC over YC, we like our mugs and use them a lot! Ate at Yachtsman, delicious, excellent service. Food at Hurricane Hannahs was very good as well.

5. Pool - need I say anything, awesome, staff was awesome. I thought it was easier to get to the pool from YC than BC.

5. Crisis Management - ok, here is the story, 3/4 of the way through our week we notice the toilet is 'sluggish' when flushed (I have several boys in my group, enough said). So Thursday am, I called housekeeping and told them we may need a plunge, but that is was still working. Then at 2 pm (we are in a rainy HW Studios) we get a voicemail from housekeeping that a pipe broke in our room and it flooded and we need to change rooms....after 30 minutes of trying to get ahold of someone, I asked, now, when you get back, ok. So I get back, go to the front desk, it takes Peter 30 minutes to get me new cards, starting to get frustrated. I get up to the room, my DH is there with the hotel manager and our room is destroyed - beds gone, our stuff piled nicely on top of all the dressers and tables, carpet ripped back, fans blowing under it. Sam the manager explains about the pipe and she is going to move us to new rooms, comp us 1 night. I was a little upset because I knew this would cause us to miss our Via Napoli...she saw my frustration and said she would be right back. She added CL access - huge perk, we skipped Via Napoli, ordered pizza, but having the CL was a nice compromise. We were moved and settled within an hour. The communication issues I had prior to her helping us were not good, but she took care of it from there.

6. Operation Duffy - DS11 wanted a Duffy, huge shortage all week in all the parks and gift shops - they had the outfits, not Duffy. I ask concierge Vicki and Jonathan if they could give me the phone number to BW and I would try there - oh no - they took care of it from here. Called all over property, and found the last few at All Star and Coronado Springs - I didn't have time to get it before Magical Express, so they sent a runner over there and got it and I gave him cash - Duffy delivered 1 hour before departure - NOW THAT IS SERVICE!!!!!!!! I told them I was forever grateful because DH loved the lounge and they saved the day - amazing! They were sincerely happy to do this for us, so nice!!! Plus, I don't know what it is, but those are the best hard boiled eggs on the planet!

Overall - excellent visit! I met two disers... Reddy and 1971DBday - this was super! I wrote a mini report on our park experiences on the theme park and attractions board regarding RFID and FP and a few other thoughts.

Have a magical day!

Hi every one!

I'm in line at splash mountain with Ninja Mom. She says it's so "darn" (the not the word she used) hot they might as well get wet right off the bat. So far she is just barking and growling at me, no swatting just yet....

More later, gotta see a rabbit about a patch...

Been lurking in this thread for a bit. We'll be at YC CL for the first time in August (8/22-8/26).

My question is about SAB. I know from seeing some pictures that swim vests are available. Where do you get them (at POFQ last year, we got them in the gift shop - is there a specific place by SAB)? And then the important question - can kids go down the slide in a vest? The answer at other resorts has been yes (it was definitely not an issue at POFQ), but I'm thinking that I read that it's not allowed at SAB. What's the official policy? DS5 is in the process of swim lessons, but if he's not swimming by August I want to be sure to prepare him if he's not going to be able to go on the slide.

Darn! Why didn't anybody tell me there were so many frogs inside splash mountain! I almost got eatin up! NM said any ride that had fly eating frogs was ok by her!!

Love Buzzy

I thinks maybe NM was setting you up on Splash Mountain:confused3
you may have to rethink your strategy of following her around so closely...you never know what ideas are lurking in her mind:rolleyes1

Oh my stars!! I'm doing it again natebenma!! Doing the resort switch and I promise, last time!! After much thought and still no PIN, I'm going to switch back to POR, but I also switched dates, Dec. 16-23. It was cheaper for my DSis to fly out on a Monday vs. a Saturday, so I'm trying to keep her costs down. My DH will not be joining us, instead he will be hunting in Minnesota with the guys from work. Working on Disney crafts this summer with my kiddos that I found on Pinterest!! Ninjamom, I've been reading your TR closely!!

Just wanted to let you all know we are at the Disneyland Hotel and LOVE it. We are staying club level and it is beautiful. The cast members couldn't be more helpful and so sweet. The offerings here are a bit more plentiful and varied than where we have stayed at WDW. Our view is awesome, looking over the parks. We are able to watch the fireworks from our room and the music is piped in over the television. :woohoo::woohoo:

Carsland is awesome. It looks just like the movie. The attention to detail is amazing. Well, sorry to go off topic, just wanted to share.

I've done CL there as well. I thought the offerings were much more varied and plentiful, too. It really does seem to be a step above CL at WDW. Wish it was the same in Florida.

Glad you're enjoying your trip!!

So that sums up today's activities in the pool, the highlight of which was when a life guard freaked out, jump in the pool and rescued what turned out to be an elderly person's 4 foot long knee wrap that had floated off. Fun times!!

~NM

I am sitting on my much coveted balcony during today's storm and almost fell over the railing because of uncontrolled laughter after reading your post. I too was right there witnessing the heroic rescue!

So true your report on the BC pool. I would like to add leaving the toddlers unsupervised in the small slide pool to have the lifeguard babysit free of charge!

I'm going to switch back to POR, SNIP! Ninjamom, I've been reading your TR closely!!

Ok, so let me fill you in on this resort. (Port Orleans Riverside)

First of all the buses are fine so don't believe the drama queens who can't cope with a bus. Basically, the same triumphs and tragedies one experiences at ANY resort can be found at POR. We are at the east stop which is the last stop before the bus departs for it's off resort site destination. We've had no trouble getting a seat and we are the last stop! Contrast this with the All Star resorts and the saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. Those All Star resorts are a zoo when it comes to the buses, with long lines and all ready 'filled to capacity' buses pulling up to YOUR stop! Nuff said!

The food court is the same as any food court with all the triumphs and tragedies that you experience at any other resort. At dinner and breakfast it can be crowded, lunch time... not so much. We haven't eaten at Boatwright's or what ever it is called, but we did have appetizers for dinner at the bar next door where YeeHaa Bob performs.... and they were awesome. Bob was pretty tasty too, so if you get the chance to see him, definitely do it! I figure the appetizers come out of the same kitchen so we would be willing to try it if we needed a sit down restaurant.

The pool, I told you about. I forgot to mention the other ubiquitous group that populates the pool and that's the Teeny Boppers. These are the kids that will participate in ALL of the pool games that the recreation staff can come up with AND they know all the dances. If a Mom should jump up there to do one of the dances she invariably looks like she is being stung by invisible bees as she makes her moves. These teeny boppers don't care however because they are in it for the FABULOUS prizes that are given out during these pool games. After watching the T.B-ers dance their padooka's off I was looking for the toaster ovens and paninni presses that I was sure they were giving away. As luck would have it they didn't even have the gumption to give the kids a lousy pair of fuzzy dice. All they were getting were those "Silly Bands", which in grown up terms is a funny shaped rubber band. Dey wuz robbed I tells ya!

A cab from this resort to any other resort is around the $20 or under mark. The laundry is also fine as there are many machines and most are in good working order. There is a small, in room, safe where Ninja Mom is hiding the good snacks from the rest of the boys. They think that bag of chocolate bars fell out of the bag and is rolling around the trunk of some cab. ::yes:: At night when I hear the snoring I make my move and get some... all undetected and undiscovered. The Mousekeeper is going to wonder why a guest felt compelled to store empty snickers bars wrappers in the "in room" safe. I guess they've finally seen it all....

Ninjamom: Thanks for all the great info about POR! You are awesome! Although we are booked for BC for November, should finances not cooperate we may end up there.:upsidedow Keeping our fingers crossed though! pixiedust:

Update from yesterday 6/10- yesterday was DHS day. Got there at 8:45, which was a little later than I wanted. Bag check lines were pretty long at this point. Got to Toy Story and got in FP line by 9:25 (the FP line was already long and regular line was 60min). Our return time was 2:15.

Headed over to ToT and did that with a wait of about 40 min. Went to RNR and the wait was already at 2 hours. Unfortunately we had our FP for ToT out there so we had to pass it by. Should have been to DHS earlier!

We did everything else we wanted and left after we ride toy story. To the hotel and the pool by 3:30. Hubby and I both concurred that this is our least favorite park. It seems layed out so haphazard and everyone is down by ToT and no one is at the other side of the park except when I big show lets out and then it crazy packed in that area. Loved star tours - it was closed the last time we were here.

Did a quick swim in the quiet pool to cool down. Had an enjoyable dinner at
Cape May. We went back to DHS for F! 3 of my family got to go on
RNR coaster via the single rider line be because the other was over an hour. The other 2 of us got in line for F! The wait was not pleasant as they had you jam together and even at 9pm it was hot and sweaty. The second show was not at capacity so we could have waited till later to get in line but we didn't want to chance it. After the show we finished out EMH with the ToT twice and left when it closed. No wait for the boat.

Today is our no park day so just chillin' at the pool until lightening was spotted. Sidewalk refurb at the pool going on so it has made getting to the slide a little longer.

We are having a blast at YC. This morning we went to AK and it was HOT. We decided to ride Kali first and that made the heat bearable.

I noticed that YC, BC, S&D, and BW shared the AK bus today. YC and BC are the only resorts sharing the MK bus.

We are having a great trip. Our room is GV cl near the lounge. We have a day bed and a beautiful view. We were able to watch a vow renewal from our balcony yesterday.

It is raining now, but we plan to go to the MK in a little while.

Hi Everyone,

Checking in 07/01 Beach Club and that evening we have ADR at the Whispering Canyon. Any suggestions on best/quickest way to get there. After dinner we are thinking of going to MK for a ride or two.

We do have a car but after driving down from Massachusetts I am not sure anyone will ne thrilled on jumping back into the minivan. :confused3

All comments welcomed :thumbsup2

:offtopic: I know this is off topic but I also know you will understand my excitement! We've just finalized our stay off site for our US/IOA/SEAWORLD portion of our trip.:cheer2: We're arriving the Friday before our BC stay and doing 1 day at each of the other parks. We got a great deal at the Best Western Plus which is a partner hotel, and we will get to have early entry to both of them for Harry Potter and Transformers. We also got a great deal on our SW tickets that basically gives us unlimited free dining for the day.

Thank you for your attention. Now back to our regularly scheduled topics! :rotfl2:

We are here now. Did EPCOT yesterday and it was great. We got everything done we wanted and the weather was good though a little hot when the sun was direct. Today our day was a bust. There were dozens of people waiting for the AK bus that never came so we drove today getting there an hour late and it was hot, humid and super crowded...I thought it was a recommended day? Safari ride was great today but then we got stormed out and basically did not do anything but the Rain Forest Cafe and the safari...bummer. We are back now and waiting for the storm to clear so we can go swimming.

We are disappointed with CL so far. We really enjoyed WL CL a few years ago. I love BC but DH prefers WL. We were not thrilled to get a handicapped room (DH needs a shower massage) and there are several things broken in the bathroom. Other than that I love BC!

Are u in room 5633? We had that room a few weeks ago and it was a handicap room. I missed the nice shower head as well but I loved being so close to the lounge

Yeah!! Thank you so very much!! I almost toyed with Boatwrights but then had the fabulous idea of pizza at Via Napoli!! I want beignets and that is what has me excited!! Hahaha on the silly bands, we have way too many at our house and they are currently sitting in DD (7)'s "jewelry" box!! No more here!!! I could use a Mickey hot pad or kitchen towel, something useful!! I can bust a move, but I'm sure I would embarrass the DS (11) and I'm sure my moves would be out of date. I just finally parted ways with all my NKOTB paraphernalia :(
