You sneaked your comment in between my two posts on Tuesday.

I know you have posted here a couple of times, but I'm not sure if I have officially welcomed you, so

:welcome: and thanks for the info!

If you have an upcoming trip to the resort, please let us know.

:goodvibes

Thanks for the welcome!!

Actually, right now I have a 1 night stay booked at the YC (GV). Shortest stay ever, but better than nothing! (long, boring story) But next year, it'll be better. You can put me down for June 11!

Day 2 of our BC stay has been a good one.

*snip*

We then headed back for a afternoon at the pool. Once again there was a lot of chair saving going on. However people were not afraid to move towels if there were no personal items in sight. They would even ask those sitting around to be sure no one had been seen using those chairs. One time I did see a CM walk around and remove towels as well. All in all a fun afternoon at the pool where the kids bragged they had gone down the slide some 34 times.

Tomorrow we had off to MK bright and early for a full day.

Thanks once again for a great "on the spot" report.

:thumbsup2

I just booked a trip for my parents in October! They will be traveling with my DH and I, but staying at BC (we'll be at YC). I'd like to put in a room request for them to be near the "secret entrance." What would be the best way to put this?
Thanks so much!

:welcome: to your parents!!! I'll add them to the Be Our Guest list.

:cool1:

What view category have they booked? Would they prefer an upper or ground floor?

A couple of ways to phrase this would be

"Upper/Ground floor, please, close to EPCOT" or "Upper/Ground floor, please near Room 1501"

Teena, do you think one of these would be better than the other?

We are a Poly family but this year we decided to try the BC. Have been reading trip-advisor and I have a few questions. We are huge Disney fans so I can't imagine any of this is true but if anyone has any information that would be greatly appreciated.

1. Have read several reviews re: the need for renovations, musty smell in the rooms. Soggy carpeting. Saggy mattresses. Has anyone experienced this?

2. Have read quite a few reviews that mentioned a bee problem at SAB. Just curious if this is true because my oldest is allergic to bees.

3. Most important question. Best centrally located room area to request? My youngest is recovering from ankle surgery and wont be fully recovered for our trip. Have rented a wheelchair but since I am not familiar with the resort I am really not sure where to request a room. We will definitely be visiting Epcot more than DHS. Just want to try to minimize the walking. (I know that's crazy to try and do while in Disney!). Any suggestions?

4. Been reading some posts that mention a "secret" exit near the quiet pool that saves some walking. Can anyone tell me what to look for?

Thank you for any information you can provide! I am sure we will love BC. Disney has never let us down! Just concerned about some of those reviews I read. Thanks again! Have a magical night! :)

I have only had two stays at the Beach Club, the last in 2010, so hopefully others with more recent stays will chime in.

1. I found the mattresses very comfortable, but I can't remember if they were on the firm or soft side. Many have commented that they have never slept better than they have at the resort. I have not noticed a musty smell or soggy carpets.

2. I have not noticed if there are a lot of bees at Stormalong bay, but my only advice is to stay away from the refill mug station at Hurricane Hanna's. Maybe from the Beaches & Cream area, too.

3 and 4.

Here's a link to a post on the first page of this thread. There is a map with a layout of rooms for the resort- the map is outdated, the view designations are not correct, but it should give you an idea of where rooms are located.

The end of the post describes the location of the secret entrance.

Post 8: Beach Club Resort (Rooms)

Would you prefer an upper or ground floor?

A couple of possible requests:

"Close to lobby/transportation, please" or "Close to lobby elevators, please"

If you wanted to be close to EPCOT, you would want a room close to the secret entrance (Room 1501), but this would put you further away from the lobby/transportation and pool.

If you have a room close to the lobby, it is probably quicker to get to EPCOT by using the back entrance off of the lobby of the resort. The secret entrance would be used if it is really hot or rainy and you want to be inside for as long as possible.

Thanks for the welcome!!

Hopefully I can help you with some of your questions.

1. We've stayed at BC since 2008 and never had a problem with soggy carpet, saggy mattress or musty smell. We once had a problem with SOAKED carpeting but that was at the GF and a little musty smell at the Poly.

2. Twice I've seen a problem with bees - once they closed the boats at the marina because of a bee problem and once at the Poly we couldn't even sit by the pool because there were so many bees. Never had a problem at SAB. My thinking is that it could happen at any resort but for some reason rarely does.

3. In 2010 my dd broke her leg in two places, had to have surgery to fuse them back together and was in a long leg cast for 8 weeks! She got her cast off two days before we left for BC and had to be in a wheelchair most of the time. We still stayed CL on the 5th floor and never had a problem. We used the elevator and went out the back entrance. I think if you ask for something near the lobby you will be pretty centrally located.

4. Dee has a picture of the "secret entrance" on the first page.

HTH and have a magical trip!

Just had to come on and say SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!!! :cool1:
My youngest and I are for the most part packed while DH, DD17 and DD13 haven't packed a thing. My sister and her two kids are also ready to go, but her kids still don't know they are going and my two youngest don't know they're coming.

I can't wait for them to "bump" into each other at WDW!!!!:upsidedow

I'm joining you on that dance!!! Even though I'll be at CSR for this trip :(.

Day 2 of our BC stay has been a good one. We were up early this morning and at the Epcot IG at 8:25. The gates promptly opened at 8:45, and we hustled over to Test Track.

We got FP with a return time of 9:30, and then immediately rode it with a 5 minute wait. By the time we got off, the line to get FPs was all the way back to Inoventions.

We thought we might be able to get over to Soarin to ride standby, but a check of the app and the big board already showed a 60 minute wait. Decided to skip since we already rode yesterday. So we hoped Mission Space with a 5 minute wait instead.

After this the kids wanted to meet characters so we waiting for 30 minutes at the Character Spot. Then we did some shopping. My DD really wants the Pluto Mickey eats hat, but they are were apparently
all out at Epcot. A very helpful CM called around everywhere looking for one and told us right where to find one when we go to MK tomorrow.

Lunch was at the Tangierine Cafe in Morocco. Very much recommend this as the portions are large and the food good.

Thanks so much for sharing! Glad to hear about the CMs moving the towels, I hate to move towels because with my luck I would move the ones of poor folks in the pool rather than the squatters that leave them there all morning whilst touring the parks...

:goodvibes

Thanks! They are booked for standard view. They don't care about the view or particular floor. I've turned them in Epcot Resort "snobs" so they are just excited to be near Epcot where we will spend about 80% of our time!!

This is so amazing! I can't wait to hear all about your trip and the big surprise! (Yes, I do live vicariously through others who are going to WDW!)

We'll be staying at the Beach Club from June 2 - 8th. It's been years since we've been to WDW and have never stayed at the BC/YC. We are bringing our two youngest - both are on summer break from college (Son -20, Daughter -18). This trip was a sort of last minute decision and we haven't done the planning others on here have done. We have no ADRs, I hope that doesn't end up being a problem!

I have requested a day bed, no idea whether we will get that. Should I check in on-line? Will that help our chances?

See you in a few days!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on page 1

:cool1:

I don't think you should do the online checkin. I'm on my way out so I will come back with a more thorough explanation. Daybed is not one of the options for a request when you do the online checkin.

Make sure you DO have the request noted with the Central Reservations Office. Your trip is in just a few days, so if you haven't added it, try now

"Adult children in room, daybed please". I'll go through the suggested checkin process later (or if Teena is around today, maybe she can help), or check out the FAQ on Page 1.

However, if your assigned room does not have a rollaway, and a room with one is not available, then you can request a rollaway cot, free of charge, for your stay.

Again, take a quick peek at the FAQ post, Post 13, on Page 1.

:goodvibes

I made it to page 68 and could wait no longer to get to the last page so I skipped ahead :thumbsup2 We are 200 days today and only 3 days of school left and then I will have a 2nd and 6th grader :scared:

natebenma, our trip is shortened by one day, well, actually, we are coming in the 13th late, and I'm thinking we will stay at a Value and then make the switch to BC on the 14th and stay through the 21st!!

Haven't told DH that we are switching, my TA/friend said no need to divulge that info until some sort of discount comes through :thumbsup2 So, I'm keeping it on the DL!! But, I'm looking for ideas/suggestions for celebrating my DSis's bday while we are there!! She's never been to WDW, so anything will be special, but I like to hear what others have done!!

Have a great Tuesday!!:flower3:

We're doing an overnight stop on our drive down, so we leave in...four days. I'm doing laundry and packing like a maniac, and the kids still don't know we're going to Disney.

So here is my all-important, burning question: besides the famous Sunken Treasure, what's your favorite adult-type drink at the BC? :rotfl:

So there is a thread on the Theme Parks Forum reporting England's Prince Edward & his family are currently staying at the Yacht Club. Any first hand sightings?????

Others will probably fill you in on the day bed issue but I wanted to encourage you about the dining situation....

Secretly, I envy you because I feel that ADR's sometimes can take the relaxation out of a Disney Vacation. I'm talking about the ADR treadmill when you are running from one to the next and they take the priority over the rest of the vacation.

I think you are in luck staying at the BC/YC because you have so many casual dining options. There is the Boardwalk area, the resort quick dining options like Hurricane Hannah's and of course all the quick dining at the countries of Epcot. I think if you wanted a sit down breakfast or a dinner I would definitely scope out the Captain's Grille for availability. A couple of hours before you are interested in dropping in for a meal, stop by the podium and talk to the staff about times and availability.

There is no way you are going to get into the popular places but I'd try strolling by some of the other places, like Morocco for instance and asking if you can get in when you are there. Morocco is one of those places that people don't think they will like but then they go and they love it. Places like that might have availability, especially if you are trying to get in before or after the prime eating times.

I know that before I go on a trip I start to get worried about all these potential issues that tend to vanish once I get started on the actual trip. Right now I have a vacation planned in December with Buzzy the Fly and I have all of these concerns, like does he snore and what will people think if I'm going on vacation with a fly. Our dining plan is also a mess because Buzzy is on the deluxe dumpster plan and I just couldn't agree to that. At first I thought that we would be dining separately but then Buzzy said he would come to all of my meals as well. As long as there is no sharing I'm fine with that.... I think! ;)

So the moral of THAT story is that there is always stuff you worry about but there are always ways in which you will work it out AND you'll be having a memorable adventure in the process. Think of all the spontaneity you'll experience in the process of enjoying your trip!

Sounds like a real adventure to me!! Good luck and have a great trip!!!

We decided 2 weeks ago to plan a last min. trip for June with my family.....NO ADR's. I think we will end up loving it!!! There are so many CS places to enjoy, let alone all the wonderful snacks I have lined up!!! Last year I was able to get a few TS dinners on the same day I needed them (not the most popular places, but they were fine.)

I never pay any attention to those trip advisors. They never seem to say anything nice about any resort. What I would do is read the trip reports and threads here on the dis. I think sometimes if I'm not happy with a resort I picked that I keep looking for something to be wrong with that resort until I switch to a resort I really want.

It's tough because the poly and BC/YC are sooooo different. Poly is tropical and BC is cape cod to me. I think that every resort has a nasty room or 2. If your not happy once you get to the BC tell management right away and move your room. It's your vacation you have to be happy, if I'm not happy believe they are gonna know about it. But YC is my dream resort, the one resort I always wanted to stay at. Our next trip might be the poly :cloud9:

The wheelchair- there are a bunch of companies in the Orlando area that deliver directly to each resort so your daughter can have the chair the whole time and not just in the parks. They are cheaper if you keep it with you at the resort if you get the. At the parks the are def more expensive

For our first trip in 2008 we made all of our TS ADRs in the late afternoon (it really ended up being more of a late lunch). It worked our really well because we knew we would still be in the parks during that time of day and also gave us a good break. We usually ended having a FP that was coming up around the time we finished eating. I think if you try you could probably get some reservations around 3:00 or 4:00 if you don't mind having your big meal at that time of day because a few times we ended up a the restaurants early and they took us right in.

Last year I decided not to make any ADRs so we wouldn't be locked into a schedule. Let's just say I would suggest you try getting something lined up before you leave.

Does Mrs. Buzzy know? She sounds pretty tough and I wouldn't want to cross her. :scared1:
