Top o' the morning to ya. Happy Evacuation Day.
For those of you outside of Boston, Evacuation Day commemorates the day when the British evacuated the city of Boston during the Revolutionary War (War of the Colonies for those across the pond). And we celebrate the day so that banks, financial institutions, schools, post offices and some bsuinesses are closed so that there will be plenty of parking for tourists and people in search of inebreation in the name of St. Patrick's Day. As a former bouncer who worked in the city of Boston for over 15yrs, boy do I have stories.
BUT, this is a Bruins thread. And right now the B's are on an 8 game win streak, thanks to the Carolina Huuricanes. Chad Johnson allowed only 1 goal on 30 shots on his way to another win. Looch netted 1 goal and 2 assists and continued to run everyone in a different colored sweater. Iggy banged in 2 goals himself. I think it's safe to say, that the Bruins will be offering him a Recchi-esque pay as you go contract from now til the start of the 2014-15 season. But the real story of the afternoon was the beating that Johnny Boychuk took. Not from a vicious check. Not from a toe to toe fight. It was just circumstance after circumstance where he go hurt. The best way I can describe it would be like seeing Boychuk play the role of Nordberg at the beginning of Naked Gun
HERE . He loses an edge and goes flying into the boards and has to get helped up. But being the Johnny Boychuk that he is, he was right back out there the next shift. It was then that he was dropped while blocking a slap shot. But that was not the end. He was then mauled by a tiger sliding into second... Oh wait. I think I'm talking about Naked Gun again. The improtant thing is that the B's won. And thanks to a hard luck weekend for the Pens, the B's are now ahead of the Pens by 3pts in the Eastern Conf (and 14pts on the Habs in the Atlantic).
Today, The Bruins are facing a Wild team that is fighting to hang onto their #1 wild card status. There are 4-5 teams jockeying for the 2 wild card slots in the West. So Minnesota has to go all out til the end of the season. So the Bruins can't afford to take them lightly. Especially, since old pal Matt Cooke will be taking the ice.
In other news... If anyone watched the Habs/Sens game Saturday night (and I'm fairly certain at least 2 of you did), you saw a Habs team that never gave up. They scored something like 94 goals in the last 3 min of the game with the goalie pulled. Granted the game tying goal was fairly controversial (I personally think the puck was covered and the ref should've blown the play dead), but the Habs never quit. Montreal won the game in OT. But that is why teams have to play the full 60 min.
Now, to take us out on this St. Pat's Day edition... Michael Flatley - Lord of the Dance. Not to be confused with Lord of the Stanley.
