Just got an email from my TA

Lead-time between Disney Cruise Line's® announcement of itineraries/sail dates and the opening of 2012 for booking is anticipated to be a matter of days. Based on last year's timing, we expect the announcement and subsequent opening very soon.

My guess is early next week. This isn't speculation the date is known, but cannot be advertised until they get the okay from DCL.

Awesome!
We have already selected a written page worth of rooms we would prefer for the Fantasy, all we need to know is what dates to be *in* those rooms!! :D

I have never been on a Disney cruise but we are thinking about it. Is there a significance to finding out the first day? Are the prices cheaper? Or are you trying to book a specific room before everyone else?

From what I have learned from others, the cruises are cheapest the 1st day they are released & then prices go up as more staterooms are booked. I believe the only way for you to get a cheaper price is if they offer a kids fly free offer, but you won't know if it will include your specific cruise.
We are going on our 1st cruise & I booked it the 1st day possible. I have checked every so often what the price is for our cruise & it's been higher since so I am glad I booked right away.

The crazy thing is seeing the rates go up just w/in the 1st hour as people are already booking rooms. I called DCL as soon as lines opened for 2011 bookings & was on hold for about 20 min. The price was already up some just waiting the 20 min.

For some cruises (ie: new ships, new itineraries) people try to book early to get the room they want on the date they want. They do typically go up after the ships start to fill, but that doesn't mean they will go up on day 2. But it also doesn't mean they won't. It depends on the specific cruise/ship/itinerary, and the number of people who book rooms.
For us, it's a matter of "finally" having an actual cruise booked, compared to the dummy date we booked and bumped multiple times. When I have the real booking, we are really going.

Just one thing to remember--The upper level Castaway Club members will get first dibs when the dates are released, then the rest of us after a certain time.

So, it's better to book right away than any other time? We're going on our first cruise in Dec, and I'm hoping to convince DH to book for 2012 onboard.

I can't wait to start planning our summer 2012 Fantasy Cruise! I will have my request in to our TA in advance so she can book it the first day we can!:goodvibes

I'd suggest booking on Day 1 if you know what cruise you want in 2012.

When you go on your cruise in December, you will have a good chance to get a same or similar category room on the same cruise. You will get a 10% discount on the cruise based on December's rates. That may or may not be less expensive than what you already have booked. It just depends on your cruise's popularity. Plus, you'll get an OBC for rebooking onboard. If the two items make the cruise less expensive, rebook onboard and cancel your original reservation. If the cruise is more expensive, you'll be happy you've already got the room you wanted.

Sometimes room rates go up as people will hold multiple reservations while they're making up their mind.

To the OP: thanks for posting this! I hope you're right that the booking for 2012 is just around the corner!

If I book early for a 2012, and then, due to kids' school schedules or something need to change or even cancel, will I lose money? Does "booking" require a deposit?? This is exciting:banana::banana:!

How much $$ do you suspect Fantasy's maiden voyage to be?

My Cat 9B for 2 people on the Dream MV (booked on the first day) was $2,392.34.....4 day cruise....no one knows if the MV of the Fantasy will be 4 days for 7 days so the price may change.

Yes there will be a deposit required. But if you need to move your date or cancel your cruise before the final payment date ( this is 75 days before your cruise) there is no loss of money. The money will be moved with the dates or refunded.

However if you do not pay in full by or cancel after the pay in full date well let's leave at you do not want to do that.

We were going to book 2012 on our Feb 2011 to take advantage of the hopefully on board booking discount. Don't worry once he's onboard he'll be putty in your hands - LOL I had to drag my DH onboard and now he would rather go on the cruise than go to WDW - but don't really have to drag him there either anymore - :)

Except Suite deposits, those are non-refundable but they can be transferred to other dates prior to the final payment due date.

Wow! Does this really happen?!! How much do they go up within an hour or so? If this really is the case, is the best approach to use a TA, notify them in advance which cruise you want to book, and they can secure the best rate for you?

I'm so ready to book our first cruise! Can't wait for those 2012 rates to come out.
