2012? No Problem...but when?

Sounds like a fun day planned today!

And I think that is a nice compromise - you get Disney - DH get's a beach... I wish I could do that with mine. Oh well... It's cheaper with out him. LOL

LOL... My hubby used to be a stock car racer...back when he was young in his spare time! Him wanting to go to Daytona Beach is a throw back to that part of his life..it is, after all, the birthplace of stock car racing!

I, on the other hand, wanted to go to the Gulf coast...the beaches are much prettier there... but since he agreed to pay for it...I figured it was worth it! After all...as long as there is a beach and a pool it is all good...right?

Have a great time. I can't wait to see what you get today.

it should be interesting... LOL...

Did I mention how much I hate driving... and I get to look forward to an extra day with about 4 to 4 and a half hours of driving today... At least our therapy has been cancelled for tomorrow so I won't have to drive tomorrow...

...yes I do sound like I am whining... but I'm not really...

I have not gotten a picture of my few goodies from my 5 hour trip to the other side of town yet...because I am allergic!

The items that I got were the silver and crystal Lazy Susan that always sat on my Grandmother's dining room table. I have tons of memories of that item...I am really hoping my dad doesn't want it...I am going to have a tough time letting go of it!

Do you remember those dolls that people used to make from dish washing detergent bottles? My grand mother made one. It was an old Granny Lady (that was her name!) She made a little basket for her to hold that she kept her good scissors in. I got that.

My grandfather was all about journals, calendars and notebooks. (I guess I got that form him!) They had a ton of 'little black books' from the 20's and 30's. Most of them were before he met my Grandmother. In fact one...my cousin dubbed the "Margie Book" because every entry was about Margie. She didn't know that my grandfather was married before my grandmother! They never had kids, because shortly after they returned from their honeymoon she got sick. She was institutionalized for the next 3 or 4 years until she died. As far as 'what' she was sick from was always a big mystery... but the only argument I ever heard from my grand parents was when my grand mother said something like 'you are going to drive me crazy too!' We always assumed it was a mental breakdown. The death notices were just a simple died while under hospital care.

So I have a couple of his books that chronicled their dates! I also got some reading certificates from my dad and one of his sisters...they each one a reading competition in elementary school. My dad won for the 4th grade, and his sister won for the 3rd grade. (my aunt did not want them in her house because she was in the 2nd grade and did not win anything!) Of one interesting note...one of the many books my dad read was House on Pooh Corner...

I also have the certificates and 'books' where my grand father earned his machinists and electrician designation from somewhere... (I am guessing that was long before he became a policeman!)

All of the above items were kept in my aunt's attic.

I am allergic to mold and mildew.

They are all being kept out of my reach! LOL! My goal is to get them aired out enough to be able to put them in some sort of a display case. Of course, the Lazy Susan is on my coffee table...it is driving me crazy that the silver has come off in a couple of spots and it looks almost like rust on the back.

Hopefully I can get them cleaned up ... but it probably won't happen until after the June trip...I just can't see me having any time to spare until then.

What wonderful items Nini! And such great memories they create for you - I could only dream of having treasures like that from my grandparents.

I hope you don't have too much of a reaction from the mold/mildew.

D~

My grandma and aunt made loads of those dishwater dolls. My mom still has a few of them.

I think it is so cool to go through that old stuff. Hope you get all your treasures aired out.

WOW!

As most of you know I dabble in the travel agency business. (by dabble I mean I spend more time taking classes than actually making money...but I love it!)

Since we have so much outside therapy, I can't seem to find a way to take my laptop with me. Mainly because I am scared of dropping it, or something else happening to it. Last time I took it with me I left it setting on the seat...and stopped suddenly and it fell into the floorboard... Not great fro a laptop.

Then there is the issue of getting internet... there is one office we go to that has a free internet connection in the office (it is at the college..imagine that!) but the rest of them have zero service. Since I am basically a cheap person...I do not want to pay the extra 50 or so dollars to make my phone a hot spot...so I have to do a very awkward and only slightly legal tethering with a cord to get internet on my laptop.

Well, the internet on my phone is always slow...so it is really not a great way to get any work done on the run!

I have been toying with getting an IPhone. Mainly because the internet speeds I can get are much better than my droid... no matter how much money I throw at it.

Yesterday we had to go run some errands. Afterwards, our first stop was the furniture store. I have been needing a new sofa set for ages...but just haven't found what I wanted. So we go back and look every few weeks. They actually had one that I liked...but wasn't 100% sure of the color. My husband wanted one that reclined...I only cared about how it felt when you sat...the style...and that it be leather. (This one did not recline...and I think that is why I liked it more than some of the others...didn't feel like it should be in a man cave...)

After spending 30 minutes or more looking and sitting...hubby decided since i wasn't begging to get it I must not be as much in love with it as he was... so he said we would think about it and come back tomorrow.

After a decent dinner at Ruby Tuesday's... we stopped by the phone store so I could see the IPhone in person and play around with it. Forty-five minutes later we walked out with not one but TWO new IPhone 5's.

Up until recently, my husband's cell phone was just a basic phone...no camera, no texting, nothing! When he said he wanted an I Phone as well, I was flabbergasted! Since he had his droid all he used it for was Facebook and to watch videos...

While we took some of our income tax refund to pay the down payment on the phone, our actual monthly bills will be lower than what we were paying for the very slow droids!

It took me a few minutes to figure it out...but once I get everything set up the way I want it I am thinking it will be fantastic! I know the internet speeds are so much better. I pulled up some of my TA sites and it was blazing fast! I can't wait to get the actual apps on here...I think this might be one of the best presents I have given myself in a long time...of course, give me a few months and I will find some things wrong...but for now I love it. And it is pretty nice to not to have to remember to take my ipod out of the studio when I want to listen to my music upstairs...now I have it on my phone!

OK.... commercial over!

On the baby watching front, nothing has changed...blood pressure is still higher than they want it to be, but unless it spikes terribly in the next few days, she will go in on Thursday to have the baby. The fact that she has FINALLY started to dilate makes it a better chance that the induction will go smoothly...she is at a ONE! I know...that is really not dilated... but it is a start and a long way past where she was...

Off to the studio to try and get this customer order out...it has been a comedy of errors...or rather problems. Mainly supply problems that were completely out of my control...and I hate being out of control! Then, if I get enough finished I plan on playing with my phone for a while!

Just found out a little bit ago that my daughter is back in the hospital.

She started feeling bad last night and checked her BP It was in the 160/110 range...not good... so they told her to come in. She spent the night.

They are keeping her again tonight, and are considering letting her go home tomorrow...but I would feel better if she stays until the baby comes. They live 45 minutes away from the hospital. They keep stressing the point that if her BP spikes, they have only minutes to get to her before she could stroke.

I know she would feel more comfortable at home...but at this point I feel like invoking the mommy powers and make her stay there. Kind of like when she was little and wanted to wrap her in bubble wrap!

Nini

I am so sorry your dd is back in the hospital. Hopefully they do what is best for her. (((Hugs)))

Yeah for the new phone. I hope the internet can keep up with all your appointments! It will be nice to be productive during that down time. I don't have an iPhone but I know they take great pictures so it will come in handy when your newest grandbaby arrives.

I seriously hope they get her BP under control. I know mine is crazy to but I am just chalking it up to stress. Thankfully I have had no protein in my urine. Keeping her in my prayers.

Fairly productive weekend!

We got new IPhones on Friday and on Saturday, after visiting my daughter at the hospital, they talked us into going to the furniture store there in Athens ...and my new living room will be delivered on Wednesday. This morning I got my two dresses finished for my large order... and today I get my TB test read so I can get my super duper arthritis medicine back...so Disney will be a ton more comfortable!

Wow! A great beginning to the week! (Which of course will end up with a new grand baby!)

The only downer is the furniture I picked out was not my first choice...but we had problems getting exactly what I wanted. I am kinda picky...like if you have leather furniture and want to add a recliner...it should 1) be the same type of leather; 2) be the same color; and 3) be the same style!

So I ended up with choice #2...a reclining sofa and a reclining love seat. (I guess more accurately, my husband got his choice! LOL!) Of course, I hate when you have to get your stuff in a package. The package was about $100 cheaper than just buying the two pieces I wanted. They had cheap tables, cheap rugs, cheap lamps and cheap 'accessories' to choose from. I chose the ones that were least objectionable to me and will probably re-gift some of them!

I still have to find some decent tables... but at least the big pieces are taken care of.

My giant 8 dress order is done...sort of. I wil mail the last dresses as soon as Paypal lets me know she has paid the balance, then I have to remake one of the dresses. While she gave me the right measurements... the style of dress will not work so I have to remake it in a different style.

Of course, that will give me another dress that I need to sell... I seem to have a bit more inventory that I really want to have.

After this dress is done, I will start on our shirts for our big trip in Nov/Dec. I think that will keep me busy for a while...well, that and playing with the new baby!

This has been a long and busy week!

My daughter was put back in the hospital on Tuesday, and they decided to induce labor. The plan was for me to go to the hospital around noon on Wednesday and we would hopefully have a baby at the latest by Thursday.

I got a call from my son in law early (like 7 ish) on Wednesday telling me to come on to the hospital then. Amanda was still having a bad headache and she needed me there. I took my time (not wanting to appear too anxious...even though I could not sleep the night before!) showered, dressed, had a cup of coffee and woke up my husband.

I left and was driving the 45 minutes to the hospital. For some reason I found my self speeding. (something I seriously NEVER do... ) No matter how I tried to slow down, I kept seeing my speed going up and up. I realized I must be more excited than I thought...

Anyway, as I was about 5 or 10 minutes from the hospital, I got another call from my son in law. This time he seemed a bit panicked and wanted to know how much longer it would be...because Amanda had taken a turn for the worse and they were about to do an emergency C Section. I arrived in record time!

As I was going into the room they were prepping her for surgery. She had been started on anti seizure meds and a few other things...

Anyway, thirty minutes later we had Miss Amelia Elizabeth born into our world! She was three weeks early and weighed in at 8Lbs 2 Oz and was 20 1/4 inches long. She is beautiful and looks almost exactly like her momma's baby pictures! With the exception that she has her daddy's hair color. His is a strawberry blonde and mommas is blonde. So Miss Amelia has a very light strawberry blonde...simply gorgeous!

There were a couple of concerns with her being early...most troublesome was a small respiratory issue. The pediatrician said that as long as she kept her rosy pink color all was well. As of last night, the problem seems to be completely gone (although they will watch her for a few more weeks just to make sure!)

Even though my daughter had us seriously concerned, as soon as the baby was delivered her numbers started going back to where they should and she started feeling better. She will have to remain on the anti-seizures for a while longer (up to a couple months) but she is now out of danger.

Miss Amelia is a talker (actually a grunter which was part of the respiratory concerns). When you talk to her she 'talks' back. She is a very good baby (considering she is not yet 48 hours old...) hardly ever cries and loves to sleep.

On the same day, my furniture was delivered. Which of course meant my husband was in charge of taking the delivery...I had paid extra for them to take the old furniture away. Husband told them not to worry...he would take care of it...grrrrr. So when I finally got home that night I had two complete living rooms worth of furniture in my living room!

Seriously, how could he not see this was not going to work? LOL...so HE got to pay to have some one haul it off.

I get to spend this weekend attempting to put my living room back together...which is NOT going to be easy since I am not in love with most of it!

Since we are having a cool and rainy weekend...not much is going to happen on the outside...so I guess working on the living room is a good idea...LOL..

Once Monday comes, I get to start on my next customer order...

Only 6 more weeks until. our June trip...so I really need to get my rear in gear!

Nini

I am so glad that your dgd is here and your daughter is doing well. J had some breathing issues, which lead to them finding out about his birth defect.

It is actually quite common for C-section babies to have breathing problems and as long as she is being monitored it is good. It comes from not having come thru the birth canal as it was explained to me when J was born. C had no issues.

Good luck with getting the living room sorted out.

Woo Hoo...Miss Amelia and her mom and dad went home last night! While I am a tad bit concerned...I know that the doctors would not send them home if there was a real problem.

Miss Amelia is doing fine. She is adjusting quite well to this new world she was thrust upon a little early. The pediatrician showed us several areas where you could tell that she was indeed a preemie (regardless of her large size). None of these areas are bad enough to keep her in the hospital, just things to be aware of.

The one respiratory thing has resolved itself...except for when she 'talks' to you. Anytime anyone speaks to her, she responds with her own 'talking'... it is really cute! So far she hasn't responded to the tv...but she does turn and look at it.

With things getting back to normal around here I am excited to get back to finishing up my LAST order! Once I get it out I will be taking a long break. I will be rethinking my whole business plan...Taxes have taken all the joy out of it right now...meaning I need to find another way to finance our Disney trip.

But with only 6 weeks until our short trip I doubt I would have much time to sew anyway!

Whoot!!! Can't believe it's coming so fast! :cool1:

Not much new on the trips front...except I keep thinking about how much money I would have saved if I had bout APs last year... and how little it will cost to do that this year...so...

We have seriously started considering getting APs next year... For about $200 more per person we can....

Added to that all the talk on a couple of TR I read talking about how much fun it is to go on solo trips....AND that it will be a semi tax write off (If I dare to do that...LOL...tax man does not like me.) has made me seriously consider it.

The way I like to do Disney is so different from others. Since I can not ride most of the rides I really want to, when I go with my family I end up sitting and waiting. I am the official bag watcher. So if I want to go shopping close by, I have to either lug all that stuff with me or take two strollers around with me...then be prepared for those panicked texts or calls when they get finished riding and I am not sitting where they left me!

I love to people watch and shop! And I love to take pictures of strange things...like there is a carved panel in AK on one of the food carts. It reminds me of the tree of life in that it has tons of carved animals. I try to get a picture of each animal. Now I realize they are NOT really carved, it is some sort of resin...so it is more molded. But it looks really cool....

So...a solo trip would mean...no being the Sherpa (or pack mule) and I could go where I want. So very VERY tempting!

Oooh - Nini - this would be so wonderful!!! I hope you do it - it would be so exciting. It may even prompt me to do the same thing some day. :scratchin

LOL...since it is only a 7 hour drive...short trips would be great!

Especially if we put Mr D back in public school. Then I could go down for a short 2 day visit while hubby is off... and he could watch the kids.

+++++++++

I am working on my last custom dress...actually I guess you can say I am remaking it. The measurements were right...it was just that the body type of the child made the dress not work well. I thought about using the same panels to make it work...but there was so much work involved, I decided it would actually be easier to remake the dress...and that way I can resell the original dress..and not loose too much money.

I got the pattern re-drafted and it is all cut out...so now it should take me two days to do the embroidery and then if lucky I can get it put together by the weekend. If not, it will be mid week before I can get it finished...The Princess will be spending the weekend with us as her mommy and daddy go to the races. Then of course there is that Mother's Day thing coming up....

Nini

Progress on the last customer dress...two out of five appliques done... hopefully I can get back down today and get at least one more done. I wasn't able to get down there yesterday afternoon like I had planned...but I was able to get some seeds planted in the pool deck flower pots and to figure out what was wrong with the pool pump!

Now that we are actually ...possibly...maybe ... getting some warm weather, we MIGHT be able to get in the pool. Of course, right now I am wishing we had sprang for the heater in the pool. In order to have anything less than frigid water we have to have at LEAST 2 days of 80+ weather in a row...so far the closest we have gotten is 2 days of 75+ weather and rain! The water in the pool is currently a chilly 60 degrees! While that MIGHT be refreshing on a 90+ day...on a 75 ish day...not so much!

We have never had to wait for school to be out before we actually get in the pool...and the last day of school is next Friday. This weekend calls for another cold front and rainy cool weather...so I doubt it will happen this weekend. (it was just last year we were swimming on Easter!)
