2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Thanks for all the hard work Dee!!
I wish I could be added to the Be Our Guest List too. I'll be back there someday:sad1:
Love reading about the BC!!!
I'll stop over at your new TR :thumbsup2

Question:

Our flights won't be landing until 7:10 p.m., so I figure we won't be at resort until 8:00 - check in - haul any carry on luggage to room - then we should be STARVING!!!. How busy are the restaurants late at night? B&C? Captains Grill? or would it be easier to go over to Swan/Dolphin (never been there) for dinner?

Now I know that some of you will be saying "....how is that considered late at night"? Well I'm usually in bed by 9:00 every night!!!!! I can't even imagine eating that late, but we just won't have time at the airport.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are my thoughts for you (as a sympathetic, in bed by 9 PM kinda gal):

Let's say you will be all settled in to eat around 9 PM-

Will they still be serving sandwiches/flatbreads and/or salads in the Marketplace at 9 PM? They close at 11. There might be some grab and go stuff.

I don't think Captain's Grille will be crowded at that time, but you could always make a 9 PM ressie to be safe (I don't think there is a cancel fee for this restaurant)

I know B&C gets really busy after Illuminations, but maybe shortly before might be better. Not sure.

Nobody (including me) ever thinks to look at the bars, but look at the dinner menu from allears for Crews Club. Teena, do you know anything about this? Do they actually serve dinner nightly?

Thanks to everyone for putting together this great information! My family and I are taking our first trip to Disney from May 26- May 30, and are staying club level at Beach Club (garden view). Since it is such a short time for first timers, I will be doing a lot of planning to make sure we get in all the "must-sees" as well as some relaxing by the pool. My kids are 10(girl) and 11(boy), so I think they are at a great age to help with the planning.

All the information here is invaluable, and as soon as I catch up on reading through these threads I will start in with my questions so be ready! ;)

Welcome aboard!!! I love to see first timers when they walk into the parks. the kids eyes just LIGHT UP!!! You picked by far the BEST resort to stay at! SAB is amazing, the location is perfect, staff is best anywhere......and boy is the Club Level gonna spoil you ;)

Planning is part of the fun, just remember that "the world" is much bigger than you can imagine. So don't be disappointing if you can't fit it all in. You'll just have to schedule another vacation later on.

Dee your suggestions are great!!! I too NEVER think about the lounges, and didn't even know they would serve food. And how convenient......they also serve drinks!! Not a WORD, I'M ON VACATION.

I also forget about the Marketplace, this may be the best solution.

I did think about making ADR for Captains Grill, but I would feel sooooo bad if we couldn't make it. Flight could be late.....we may not be that hungry...... I could be cranky!!!!!

I spy with my little eye, Twinings tea in these pics. I see Earl Grey, but I can't tell what the green one is. Sorry, can't help with the taste.

I believe the Green One is Green Tea. But those are just regular tea bags from the looks of them and not the pods.

Does anyone have any experience with the Pod machine to know if it will give you just hot water to make tea? I too am not a coffee drinker.

I am going to look and see if I can find tea pods for the machine, but it may not matter since we'll have the refillable mugs anyway and I'm not sure I'd want hot tea. I drink mostly iced all year round.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest on page 1.

The kids are fantastic ages for this trip.

Have you seen the book "Guide to the Magic for kids?" It is a really nice planning tool, lots of pictures and descriptions of all the rides including whether they are fast, dark or scary. The kids can journal about each day of their trips, put on stickers for rides they tried and rate the attractions.

Check it out on Amazon or a local bookstore. Only problem is both of my boys wanted one and they are about $30 each.

Great job as usual on the new thread, Dee! And THANKS for all you do to keep it updated & organized. :flower3:

Don't forget about all the options on the Boardwalk, too. We love the chicken wings @ ESPN & like to split an order if we're not too hungry in the evening. You've got Big River Grill, a pizza window & there's a kiosk that has corn dogs for casual dining, plus some sandwiches @ Boardwalk Bakery. If you're too excited to sleep right away, a walk around the Boardwalk is a great way to spend some time.

Nine weeks from right now, we'll be pulling into the YC!! :cool1:

Yep, I work 9:30 AM to 5:45 PM. If I don't see you on Sunday, I'll be there all day Monday.

And we'll miss you again, Teena! We're checking into the YC on Friday morning, checking out Sunday morning but leaving at 9:30 for the Port. We're returning to the YC after the 4 night cruise, but only for 2 nights.

We'll wave to you as we're leaving for the cruise!

Are you talking to me? Are YOU talking to ME?

I spy with my little eye, Twinings tea in these pics. I see Earl Grey, but I can't tell what the green one is. Sorry, can't help with the taste.

Ale & Compass
Ale and Compass is located just off the Yacht Club Lobby.
In the morning, breakfast items are available like coffee and tea, pastries, an assortment of cereal and fruit.

1) Dee and MM, let's just not discuss the frequency of my boys' baths/showers at WDW. Let's just say the unwashed masses are at every WDW resort. :)

2) I took a close-up of the BC Marketplace tea last August. One of my most obscure photos (besides the condiments, but that wasn't a close-up), so no judgment, please. :)

3) Ale and Compass is on my photo list for next month. When we were there last year at breakfast time, I decided I liked BC Marketplace better and decided not to take a photo. Wish I had! Now Ale and Compass is on our breakfast list for our YC arrival morning, so I'll try to get a few!

I'll take tips and advice from anyone who's been at the BC with a toddler.

Welcome, vikkii!!! Our boys are now ages 5, 11 and 12, but we have lots of experience at WDW with the boys as toddlers! As for BC advice with toddlers, I'd say enjoy SAB! Please don't be discouraged by negative SAB reports. The zero depth entry sandy area is absolutely perfect for toddlers - best toddler pool anywhere, in my opinion. Yes, you have to be in the water with them, but I've always been in the water with our kids before they could swim (and still today!) I put together some SAB photos, including the zero depth entry kiddie area here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2790323

Crew's Cup Lounge
Yacht Club

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: ocalla, those are my three cheers for Crew's Cup!!! I LOVE it. Even during busy times, it seems quiet in the Crew's Cup Lounge. Great atmosphere, really nice menu. Just wonderful. Love B&C, but it's too crowded for us in the evening. Here are a few (not so good) photos I took in and around Crew's Cup:

And a list of late night dining options at YC/BC:

Here's a thought... with the new coffee makers in the rooms I can see stopping in at the market place on your way back from a park (the day before the breakfast meal) (provided the Market place is still open!) and picking up a pastry for the next morning's breakfast. You can make coffee or tea or bourbon in your room and have a long leisurely breakfast with the construction guys on your balcony. (Hubba Hubba!) :crowded:

When I had dinner on Monday night with the "Mystery Guest" @ Captain's Grille I stopped at the Market Place and picked up some of those DELICIOUS CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS :yay: to take back to my cinder block cell at All Star Movies. I was ever so grateful to have something delectable to nibble on in my room the next morning while the unwashed masses descended upon the food court at ASMO in their primal breakfast fury. I thought perhaps I would exact my revenge for their late night noisy-ness by running through the food court and screaming "I have a CHOCOLATE CROISSANT from the Beach Club Market Place AND YOU DON'T" but common sense and my medication took over and I deferred.

These pastries were so delectable that they dared not show their age and tasted as fresh as the morning dew the next morning.

So take a tip from 'ol Marlton Mom, NEVER, EVER stay at ASMO and Pack a pastry back to your room the night before, for breakfast in bed with coffee and more!

~MM

Trying to get caught up, now that I'm off on Spring Break :goodvibes Thanks as always Dee for the new BC/YC thread.

I'm looking forward to our Aug trip, booked 8/25 - 9/3 currently all 12 nights at AKL, with our Jan. BB offer, but waiting for AP discounts for Aug, to change to a split stay with BC I hope :yay:

And hope to meet up with you this time Teena! If you're around :goodvibes Jan. just wasn't in the cards for us! Did meet the guy greeter though  in Jan!

Hi Everyone! I've taken a bit of a hiatus from the boards but I'm back! My family was supposed to be going back to Disney this past December but we had to cancel when we found out we have a little one on the way! I am missing my Disney planning so much, we decided we are going to return around when the new baby will be two years old.

SO I'm planning our trip now for May of 2014 :)

Wow Dee, thank you SO much for putting this awesome thread together!!! :worship: We're still between choosing either the Yacht Club or GF (again). We're not sure if we want to try something new or stick to what we know. So this wealth of information is WONDERFUL for the indecisive!! It's funny, I really want to try the Yacht Club but there's this "fear" that "will we like it as much as the GF?". SO that is my indecisiveness!! UGH. :scared:

I love hearing everyone's stories and seeing your pictures... it helps someone who's Disney homesick !! It's nice of all of you to bring us along on your trip until we can repay the favor! You guys are TERRIFIC !!!

I couldn't find it on the Disney site either, so I went on southwest.com and pretended I was going to book a Disney vacation with them. For my 6 days in September, it was $312 per adult ($52 per day) and $96 per child ($16 per day). That will at least give you some reference point....this was for regular DDP.

I like the DDP simply for the convenience and I think it works for us with the mix of character meals that we usually do, but I could easily do my own "dining plan" by buying Disney gift cards before our trip and using those to pay for meals. We are paying for DDP this year after having "free" dining last year.

Cindy

Thanks for the prices. I am not sure we would get our money's worth paying for the DP as sometimes the kids may not want a sit down meal each day. we are also passholders so I am thinking I may try tables in wonderland which will give us a discount on food. THat will give us more flexibility too. Plus we are in a 1Br so I will have a kitchen I can cook in and save us some money that way too....I think I just solved my own problem! Just too many good restaurants at Epcot to decide from!!!

There was a luggage stand, a table and two chairs and one bedside table between the 2 full size beds. The ironing board and Iron at All Stars was especially useful as I tend to do all my ironing for the year when I'm paying $6.47 a minute to be at Disney. There was a collection of wooden hangers in the room and I donated my wire cheapies from the dry cleaner to add to the collection.

Oh.... and how could I forget mentioning the most important room element ever in Disney resort history..... THERE WAS A PHONE BOOK IN THE ROOM!!!

~Marlton Mom

The ironing comment made me :rotfl2:

Loves ya, MM!!!

Still don't know how you photoshopped my hairy self into your family pic in your signature. I'm working through the Nair getting myself out of fuzzy Canadian winter mode in time to make it to poolside at the BC in May!

Love, your hirsute pal

With APs I would definitely do TIW.

When we have done the math, we always save a little with DDP or break even. But you are somewhat limited or forced into what you ordering. Everyone gets dessert with every meal, because it's included. Well you don't have to, but I do. There are a lot of times that a meal would be enough to split between two people or an appetizer sounds better than a full entree. Using the dining plan discourages doing things like this.
