2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Alison I just finished your WISH pre trip report and your family warms my heart. I am so glad you guys got the chance to take such a great trip! You are amazing. I do have to ask, how did the renovations turn out? Is the elevator great?

What? DH said he talked to him last week! :confused3

Now I'm confused!

That wasn't Woody. He's been gone well over a month. Vic (one of our dispatchers) has been working in that position while they are interviewing. The new guy (don't know his name but I know it is not Woody) started last week ... he was training with Vic. The part-timer (like me) is Gary and he's been there about 3 years. I think Gary's days are Friday and Saturday.

i know one of the "perks" of staying at the YC/BC is that ONLY resort guest are allowed to use the pool...no pool hoppers allowed.

On our last visit in 2010, we had heard that ANYONE can use the pool after 5 or 6pm. Is this true ?

Thanks

Happy to say that this July (for the first time) they were checking wristbands even as late as 9:00 pm.

I think I read that it's because there isn't anyone checking wristbands after this time. That whoever is only on-duty working at the entrance way is only there until 5 or 6 pm.

Call me selfish, but I hope this continues. Pool hopping is supposed to be a big no-no and most of us choose YC/BC because of the great pool, so it just doesn't seem fair that anyone can use the pool - no matter what time it is.

It's not like I can go to the holiday inn up the street to use their pool in the summer just because I'm in the neighborhood, so I don't think the Disney resorts should be any different.

I'm interested in knowing about SAB, too. We're arriving on 4/29. Has anyone heard anything about work occurring past 4/23?

I bring this up because I've seen posts by two people saying 4/30 and not 4/23.

The Jib Slide and part of SAB is scheduled for work from April 9 to the end of of April. It appears that this is an unexpected closure- a repair deemed necessary when the normal rehab work was being done this winter. There is a lot of discussion, including photos/maps of the impacted areas, starting around page 38 of this thread.

The kiddie slide, behind the Jib Slide, will be operational

Beach and Yacht Club guests will be able to use the Luna pool at the Boardwalk during the closure period and golf carts will continuously shuttle guests between the two resorts.

Thanks for the info! So is there a definite date that it will be done, or are they just saying "the end of April"?

I'll have to go back a read the discussions and look at the maps/pics.

I guess it won't be too bad if it only goes a few days into our trip. Especially if they let us use the BWI pool, we love that slide! We are just really looking forward to our first stay at the BC and using SAB. :)

The letter I got didn't specify an end date it said, "We expect the project to be completed in late April."

They expect it to be done in about two weeks. Just think back to the last time you got an estimate of work to be done at your house or on your car. The completion time or date is always something we all hope to be accurate. But unexpected things can happen (including weather) so Disney cannot give a definitive date for that portion of SAB to reopen. Disney and the contractors they use have become really good at calculating end dates for projects and normally they hit it but as we all know, "things happen" that are out of their control and therefore the end date could change although they anticipate it to only be a two week job. We need rain so bad here in central Florida but I'm certainly going to send prayers to Mother Nature to hold off on all rain during that two week period!!

So, all the calls in the world and all the letters and yelling and screaming to people at WDW isn't going to get anybody a definitive absolute written guarantee that all portions of SAB will be open on such and such date.

If I were planning a vacation in late April or early May, personally, I wouldn't be any more worried than if I were planning one in July or September. But that's me personally. Even Disney and their "magic" can't guarantee things aren't going to happen. A meteor could come down in August and hit the slide and no more SAB for a year. We can all worry about it, but the same thing could happen at any Disney resort or the pool at Atlantis in the Bahamas. We know the slide and that portion of the pool is going down on 4/9 and they anticipate the job to take about two weeks. That's pretty much the only certainly we have and that's the only thing anybody can tell you for sure.

As many have said and I hear every day I'm in the lobby, most people think Y&B with or without half of SAB is better than any other resort at WDW for soooo many reasons. Even with that portion of SAB down, if you combine the three quiet pools and the rest of SAB, I personally feel it is better than any other pool complex at Y&B. Only you and your own families can decide what to do but don't ruin your vacation by worrying nonstop about it. Make a decision to switch or to stay and enjoy what is available during the time you are there and have fun!!!!

In the past, after hours checking of room keys and wristbands at SAB has been inconsistent in the evening hours. Last summer, as Robyn indicated, admission was scrutinized the whole time the pool was open. As a guest of the Beach Club or Yacht Club resort, if the policy of Guests Only admission to SAB is important to you, please let the GM of the resorts know this!

You may write to:
Mim Flynn, General Manager
Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts
1800 EPCOT Resort Boulevard
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

If enough letters are written to Ms. Flynn about this subject, hopefully it will ensure that SAB admission will once again be scrutinized after 5 PM every day.

Thanks for that, Teena! Like I've said before, I'm hopeful the work will all be done during our stay (we arrive May 1st) but as long as there is a lounge chair and a drink, I'm good to go! LOL Not saying that I won't be disappointed, mind you, but I will deal. I think I'm more stressed out about the other family that is going with us since they chose BC based on my research and recommendation and are paying big bucks for a one bedroom in the BCV. You know what it's like!!!

Just wanted to pop in an say a sincere thank you to all of you and your wealth of knowledge! I just paid off the remaining balance yesterday, our flights are booked and our first family vacation is FINALLY almost a reality! I do have a few questions about boardwalk!

1. Is there a room or section to request for my garden view?

2. Dinner almost every evening is in Epcot, is it easy to navigate walking to world showcase from the resort?

3. If we need a bed safety rail for my daughter, do I request one or are they just in the closet?

Thank you so much everyone!! May 17 cant get here soon enough :D

Hi I have not read this the whole way through so if this has been asked and answered sorry. My Dh is worried about staying at BC Sept 28th - Oct 7th my kids are park commandos . Can you still get into SAB after 10 pm ? I know the slides are closed or is the whole pool closed . We would like to use SAB but I know the kids are going until closing of the parks every night.

We make most of our dinner reservations in Epcot also due to the proximity of the resort. I would say that it is a leisurely 5 to 7 minute stroll to the International Gateway from the lobby (For me this is while pushing a stroller and encouraging both kids to not stop and look at everything they see on the way ;) ). Once you enter through the International Gateway, you are in the World Showcase area. At the top of the little hill, England and Canada are to your left and you go over the bridge to your right to reach the other countries, starting with France. Being this close to Epcot with all of its dining choices are one of the reasons we'll be making our 3rd trip in a row to BC!!

:welcome:

Glad to hear about your upcoming stay. I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

Right now, the scheduled hours for SAB are 10 am to 10 PM. I'm not sure if they will be staying open later during the warmer months. When there are no lifeguards on duty at SAB, the slides and pools are all closed.

There are 3 quiet pools that are open 24/7 at the resort. One at the Beach Club, one at the Yacht Club and one at BCV, so there will be a place for your family to swim after you have closed down the parks.

Teena - I couldn't agree more! SAB is fabulous but the resort is so much more than just SAB! If the slide and part of the pool were closed during our visit I would be a little disappointed, but I think I would just add the water park and more option, or buy water park annual passes.

Being able to walk over to EPCOT for dinner, walk the boardwalk at night and just the whole feel of BC/YC would make me stay put, even without the slide!

Dee - great idea. I too was selfishly happy that they are checking the room cards even into the night. Last year I read on the boards how some people were doing just that - coming to SAB at night to swim because they weren't checking. I guess too many people did it because they definitely were checking them at night last summer!

Kelleigh1, I totally agree with you on this! It should be something special if you're a guest at BC/YC. Our last trip we stayed at the GF... I wouldn't dream of going over to the Poly pool...we're not guests there! I just can't believe people do this, but I guess they do. I hope they keep up with checking resort ID's though. It would be a shame if the pool was too packed for actual guests of the BC/YC to enjoy. :goodvibes

Our trip next year will be at the BC or YC (leaning towards BC this week! :rotfl: ) and we are SOOOOOO excited!!! I'm excited to be so close to Epcot, I'm excited because they're both such beautiful resorts, I'm just plain TOO EXCITED TO SLEEP!!! :yay:

110 Days Until Disney!!!!
:banana::banana:

We are checking into the Poly 1st, for the 1st 5 nights, and then the BEACH CLUB for the next 5 nights!!!! I really cannot wait for this trip!
