2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Count me in on the wristband checking club! :thumbsup2 I wish they'd develop some kind of system that would check your room key every time you enter.

I totally agree with everything you said above and keep in mind if a front desk or concierge CM takes a cash gift/tip, they will be fired if caught.

Thanks for the advice on the upgrade. Whatever happens, happens. We're just glad to be able to go. If you hear of kids screaming at Denver Inter. Airport in October, that will be ours finding out after we check-in at the airport.

TeenaS, I had no idea you couldn't tip the front desk or concierge. That's interesting. Why is that?

I LOVE ADR day! I don't know what I am having for dinner tonight, but I know what I am having 180 days from now!

We had a great experience at Captain's Grille on our arrival night for the exact reasons you mentioned.

:rotfl2: Only a Disney person would get this!!!!! :rotfl:

Both of these are so true!!! I peruse the menus on Allears.net and generally know exactly what I'm having....DH thinks I go overboard just a little bit! ;) But he never complains about the choices I make!! :)

Told DD14 that SAB was going to be under rehab for most of April and that IF they come across other problems that need fixing, part of it may still be closed during our trip. I filled her in on the "golf carts" that transport guests back and forth to BWI so they can use the slide over there..........................Her response was "Can I drive the golf cart :rotfl2:?" !!!

She thinks it would be kinda neat, those are her words not mine, to have access to both pool areas!!!

Moving resorts would NOT EVEN be an option to her, or the rest of us.

I've been to other hotels (at least one - not Disney) where you needed your room key to get into the pool area. Of course, with that, people could still let their friends in. Or, like they do at our apartment complex, leave the gate just short of closed so they don't have to use their key. (Whenever hubby and I are at the pool, we completely close the gate. (1) I'm not their to babysit your kids who are running in and out; (2) your 15 guests aren't supposed to be using the pool while you are out shopping. You get a max of 2 guests and you must be at the pool with them.)

Disney rules and regulations. Only Disney tipped positions are bellman, valet, housekeeping and of course in the restaurants.

Other CMs are allowed to take gifts as long as the gift value is not over $75 and that includes gift cards.

It makes it hard for people who do not know Disney rules and regs. They assume it is perfectly ok ... normal practice (as it is everywhere else). But it's a big no-no and I've seen CMs who have taken a $5 tip and got caught be walked off property.

Honestly, if you really thing club level would be good for your family, I'd call and book it. Especially with a family, it is really good, especially if you are spending lots of time at the resort. Breakfast alone usually makes it worthwhile money wise and then if you add in the beer/wine and after dinner cocktails, it is definitely worthwhile!

If I were planning a vacation in late April or early May, personally, I wouldn't be any more worried than if I were planning one in July or September. But that's me personally. Even Disney and their "magic" can't guarantee things aren't going to happen.

Totally agree. We are headed there for a few days the beginning of May, after our stay at BLT. We dropped some BLT days just to get some time in at BCV. We love it for the close proximity to HS and Epcot, the great CMs and the wonderful atmosphere, as well as the pool. We hope they are finished by the time we get there, but if not, I know we will still have a great time.

1. Is there a room or section to request for my garden view?

2. Dinner almost every evening is in Epcot, is it easy to navigate walking to world showcase from the resort?

3. If we need a bed safety rail for my daughter, do I request one or are they just in the closet?

Thank you so much everyone!! May 17 cant get here soon enough :D

Epcot only takes a few moments to get to from BC. It's great having so many wonderful restaurants within walking distance.

Bed rails are not in the room - at least not the rooms we stayed in. You may have to call for them once you get there too. We have requested bed rails many times and never received them. We usually put our luggage between the bed and the wall and have someone older sleep on the other side of the bed - seemed to work for us. I bet if you call when you get there, they would bring them to you though.

SAB will not allow guests/friends/relatives, etc. You must have your own room key! I can't stress enough that if you like this practice and want it enforced every hour that SAB is open, take Dee's advice!

Not sure why? Maybe since it's a DVC room? We realized at bed time that the rails were not there, and didn't want to wait a long time for someone to bring them, so we created our own system. We place our luggage between the bed and the wall, which serves as a makeshift bed rail on that side. On the other side, we had an adult or older child sleep on that side of the bed. Not sure if that would work for you, but just in case?

Pool noodles underneath the fitted mattress, or even pillows can serve as a barrier so that the child doesn't roll over :)

I most definitely will be sending a letter!

In the past, after hours checking of room keys and wristbands at SAB has been inconsistent in the evening hours. Last summer, as Robyn indicated, admission was scrutinized the whole time the pool was open. As a guest of the Beach Club or Yacht Club resort, if the policy of Guests Only admission to SAB is important to you, please let the GM of the resorts know this!

You may write to:
Mim Flynn, General Manager
Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts
1800 EPCOT Resort Boulevard
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

If enough letters are written to Ms. Flynn about this subject, hopefully it will ensure that SAB admission will once again be scrutinized after 5 PM every day.

.

Thank you for posting this! I'm going to send a letter off today!

Hi I have not read this the whole way through so if this has been asked and answered sorry. My Dh is worried about staying at BC Sept 28th - Oct 7th my kids are park commandos . Can you still get into SAB after 10 pm ? I know the slides are closed or is the whole pool closed . We would like to use SAB but I know the kids are going until closing of the parks every night.

I bet once your kids get a look @ Stormalong Bay, they'll be willing to give up a little park time to swim! :goodvibes

Just wanted to pop in an say a sincere thank you to all of you and your wealth of knowledge! I just paid off the remaining balance yesterday, our flights are booked and our first family vacation is FINALLY almost a reality! I do have a few questions about boardwalk!

1. Is there a room or section to request for my garden view?

2. Dinner almost every evening is in Epcot, is it easy to navigate walking to world showcase from the resort?

3. If we need a bed safety rail for my daughter, do I request one or are they just in the closet?

Once you are in your room ring Housekeeping and they will bring you two bedrails. They will insist on putting them on the bed nearest the door for some reason but once they left we moved them to the other bed where we wanted our DD to sleep.

Thanks for the tips re bed rails -- I have a young 'un who will roll right off the bed....

Only a couple weeks until I can check in online for our first stay at BCV :cool1:!! We've booked a 1bedroom - any advice on what to put on my special requests? I've never done the online check in- but thought I might try it this time! Couple things I thought of:

Near a Pool: Our DD (almost 2) will be napping during the afternoons - and I'd love to be close to the pool - so either DH or I can sit at the pool (or both if we're super close and the video baby monitor reaches) - but not sure how thick the doors are? Wondering if it would be really loud to be that close to the pool?

With a View: Do all the BCV have a full balcony? Can you see any of the fireworks from them? DD goes to bed early so we won't be able to see most of the fireworks - would be pretty cool to see them from the balcony :goodvibes

Any advice is appreciated!!

I totally agree with this. My family loves CL! It is nice to have breakfast all set (good choices too) and we use it when we are hanging out at the pool and then again in the evening for desserts & drinks. The CL CM's are very friendly and helpful, if you need them for anything. We enjoy it so much, I wish CL were an option when staying DVC.

Please add my travel dates to the thread: November 20-27, 2012 at the Beach Club
