2011 Wine & Dine Halloween 5k Fun Run

I just stumbled onto this thread. My daughter and I are thinking of running in the 5K this fall. It would be a first for us! I have a couple of questions though.
If you do not stay at one of the host hotels, I assume there is no way to get to the race that morning unless you have a car or call a taxi, right? So if we won't have a car we should probably just stay at one of the host hotels I guess.
Also - does anyone know what the discount park ticket prices would be like? I wonder if they are better than Shades of Green military prices??

Thanks!

We are staying at the Poly and won't have a car--we'll be getting a taxi I think. Our trip was planned before we knew about the race, so we didn't select to stay at a host hotel and didn't want to switch just for the sake of convenience.

The park tickets are pretty well priced, but we still ended up going with free dining and saved a lot more money on our total trip cost that way. The discounted park tickets we were going to use were 7 day hoppers with water parks for $273/per person. You could get tickets with/without hoppers and water parks too.

I am running with a bunch of great DIS Buddies I have met over the last few years! My big debate is if I should rent a car or not. I am staying at CBR and it is not a host resort- but I called CBR and they said they have a bus that goes to WWS?? Does anyone know about this?

I have been told that all resorts have buses that go to the WWoS but they are limited..meaning not as often and shorter hours...probably ending around 5pm..I am not staying at a host resort either and I am hoping that I can catch a bus over there to pick up my packet on Friday morning sometime. I will most likely catch a taxi the day of the run.

I bet there's prob lots of other Dissers planning doing the 5k who also aren't staying at the host resorts.

SO! Maybe in the week or 2 before the run, it might be a Dis-like (lol, I mean a Disboard'er-like thing) to have a role call of anyone interested in carpooling to the run.

There are busses from Host Resortto/from the Expo & to/from the run on RunDay.
I had already decided on POR, so that worked out okay. After the Expo, we're headed to DHS, so I figured EXPO bus to Boardwalk Inn (another host resort) & walk 10 mins (about) to DHS.

Here's a question: if I shop much at the expo (I'm so excited! One More Mile will have a booth there!), can I use the Disney delivey option to get those parcels to my room? (or are my options just to either bus back to POR, ditch purchases, bus to DHS OR just carry the stuff with me all day?

You won't be able to get anything purchased from a non-Disney vendor (ie One More Mile, et al) delivered to your room. I am not even sure the official Disney merchandise can be. Depending on how much you buy would be the deciding factor if it was worth the security unpack/re-pack and hefting it around all day.

I just signed up for the 5k. I did the Expedition Everest Challenge this past May with a friend. Doing this one solo unless I can talk my bro into running it. I just wonder if the course will be the same

I just signed DH, DD(6), DD(3) and myself up for the 5K..in the stroller division.....we will be walking mostly I'm sure...just wanted to have something fun for us to do as a family....anyone else registered in the stroller division? I assume most who register in this division walk alot of it.

I have signed myself up for the half marathon as well...am I nuts? Has anyone done this? There are plenty of hours in between to rest up...I'm really looking forward to it.

Quite a few people do both races that weekend. Unless you do the 5K while stabbing a puppy or talking to the voices in your head I wouldn't think you are nuts.

I think it is a safe bet that just about everyone in the stroller division will be walking. In some races you'll find fast runners with jogging strollers but since Disney makes the strollers start in the back I doubt even an elite runner would be doing any racing with the stroller. There will be too many people in the way.

You'd be surprised how many jogging strollers dashed past us in February, Frank.

And if signing up for both races is nuts...count me in!!!

I am SO freaking happy I found this thread!! We were already planning our WDW vacation for Sept 24-Oct 1 when I came across race info. After a few moments I decided that it is something I REALLY want to do. So Oct 1 AK will be my first "race" super super stoked. So my questions are.. 1)Are we going to be getting more e-mails concerning the race, as Oct 1 comes closer? 2) My husband talked to Disney about transportation for said race and they suggested a town car/shuttle service. Has any one used that service? Are they reliable? Thanks for the help.

Well this is my first run for the Wine and Dine but I did do Expedition Everest. We got two emails before the run. The first is more a reminder with general information. The last giving details information about the race.

Nope not crazy.....I just ran a 10K on Sunday and 30 minutes later I ran the 3K with my daughter. In Feb I ran the Royal Family 5K with my daughter and then the next day the Princess Half and for this race I am running the 5K with hubby and DD and then I will run the half at night. The more pressure the better ;)

I can't figure out where they're having us run in the back of the park between Conservation Station and Kilimanjaro. Is there even a pathway back there? Doesn't look like it on the map. Maybe they figure a herd of wild animals chasing behind would get us all moving out of the park in a hurry :)
