Day 6 - EPCOT & Captain's Grille
TODAY'S VIDEO - TEST TRACK
Another early morning wake up for us all, because today we are going to EPCOT EMH. Our third early morning on the run and we can tell. Emma took some persuading to get out of bed, but eventually we were on the road for 7:45am. The roads were very quiet on the short drive to EPCOT. Only one green light showing to the parking lot entrance, but who cares, with a quick flash of the parking permit, we are waved straight through. It was then that I noticed how near to the entrance we were and how few cars were already parked. I slowed down to speak to the CM. “Are there extra magic hours this morning?” He replied “ Yes……………..at Magic Kingdom!” With that in mind, I turned the car around and headed back out of the park. Since we now had time to spare, a visit to Port Orleans Riverside was made for breakfast.
Nigel – Cheese omelette with mixed vegetables + Fruit drink…..Sue – Cheese omelette + Fruit drink……..Emma – Breakfast platter + diet coke.
With breakfast sorted, we made the return journey back to EPCOT, in plenty of time for rope drop. With five minutes to go, Mickey Minnie, Pluto and Goofy made an appearance, to officially open the park and with the formalities completed it was ‘go with the flow’ in the direction of Soarin’ I managed to gain a few yards, which allowed me to get 3 FP’s and then rejoin the standby line. We had the best seats in the house – front row centre. Although this is a great attraction, I do feel that Disney could improve the ride further by having a variation of random films as this is starting to look a little tired as well as worn in places. On the way out of Soarin’ we headed towards Character Spot, where we all teamed up withy Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald and Goofy for some fun and photographs.
Next on the agenda was a stroll across to Test Track to get more Fast Passes. We then made our way to Spaceship Earth, where the line was moving steadily. It took around ten minutes before we were in our cars. The ride came to a halt near to the end and due to this, we had missed our photos being displayed on the large screen. Our Test Track fast passes were now valid, and so we headed back to join the ride. For this ride we were back seat passengers as you can see in the video. On leaving the ride, I got our photograph added to my photopass card. Innoventions was our next stop, which gave me a chance to use the free wifi available in the IBM sponsored area. We then made our way over to Soarin’ since our fast passes were now valid. The queue was much longer this time and even with the fast pass we still waited around 30 minutes. Not so lucky this time as we were seated in the middle row and consequently had dangling feet above us distracting from the screen. One of the things on our ‘to-do’ list was to meet up with Duffy Bear, so we checked the meet and greet times and slowly made our way to the world showcase entrance. On the way, we made a little detour into Club Cool to sample some of the free liquid refreshments. I must own up to particularly liking the offering from Mexico and due to this, I was not too short of reaching double figures by the time we left!
We reached Duffy’s meeting point, with only a few people waiting. Duffy arrived within a few minutes and we all had photographs taken with him.
At this point, we decided to call it a day since the heat was getting uncomfortable. On our way towards the park exit, we made a quick call into Fountain View for some ice creams to cool us off.
Nigel – Single Vanilla Waffle Cone
Sue – Double Scoop Strawberry and Vanilla
Emma – Coke Float
Back at OKW, we had a couple of hours in the pool to chill out before returning back to our room to get ready for our 19:30 ADR tonight at Captain’s Grille at the Yacht Club.
After checking in, we were called for our table within 5 minutes
Nigel – New England Clam Chowder - Pan Seared Chicken Breast served with mushroom pearl pasta and seasonal vegetables + Ice cream + Diet Coke
Sue – New England Clam Chowder - Salmon and Asparagus Risotto + Blueberry and Cherry Pie + Diet Coke
Emma – Pan Seared Chicken Breast served with fries + Ice Cream + Diet Coke
Throughout the evening, our server seemed to disappear for quite a while on many occasions. I think he got the message when I asked if he had been to Italy to collect our ice cream. On delivering our bill, he also bought out 3 small pastries, individually wrapped. Can anyone tell what they are?
We had originally intended to watch the Epcot fireworks, but they had long finished by the time we left the restaurant, so we made our way back to OKW, all looking forward to our beds.
