2011 DVC Member Cruise on sale Oct. 2nd.

Thank you Mary.

We have always wanted to go but there has been a problem almost each year. Mainly because of school. We don't have that issue anymore and dh and I will/would go by ourselves.

Problem now is that I have two very sick family members. I could try booking both with cash and just leave a deposit. I can always cancel later on (if not the right time medically) and get a refund or what I was thinking of doing was book my dh and I on points (since I will be banking some) and ask MS if we can't make it, can I switch the names and send my son and his girlfriend (I am willing to pay the $95 fee again).

I should probably call ahead so I know the answer and won't waste anytime on Oct. 2nd.

When do they release pricing or where the ship goes? I have a Bahamas cruise booked in May and dont know if its worth switching.

With cash bookings the full amount has to be paid at time of booking. There is not a deposit process for the Member Cruises.

just talked to DVC/DCL and was told that the price listing should be out on the DVC website by Wednesday, Thursday @ the lastest

I did not realize that. I know if you book one person with points and one with adults, the full amount must be paid. So you are saying that even if we both pay cash - the full amount needs to be paid at time of booking? Good know. Thanks.

Last I knew Disney Visa card gave you 6 months 0% interest for booking Disney vacations, including cruise. Hopefully the members cruise will also be allowed to make use of that 'perk'

Hmmm....I need to go check it out...:)

Did a little comparison but there is IMHO a big premium/surcharge for the DVC cruise vs. a 'normal' cruise. I checked the price for three different stateroom categories for the 4 day cruise just before and just after the members cruise for two adults. The price for DVC cruise does include tips but even then there's still a big difference.

Cat 9B - 9/11 and 9/25 sailing $1,217, Members cruise $1,970, $753 additional
Cat 5B - 9/11 and 9/25 sailing $1,657, Members cruise $2,514, $857 additional
Cat 4B - 9/11 and 9/25 sailing $1,817, Members cruise $2,874, $1,057 additional

We'll probably just close our eyes and pay the premium and do the members cruise, just hope all the special events make it worth the money else it might be our last.

I was looking at that difference too. DH really wants the member cruise but I'm not sure it's worth the premium especially since his claustrophic butt needs a verandah. :goodvibes

We've already got 2 cruises booked on the Dream so I'm not sure I need a third in a 3 month window. Ugh, decisions, decisions.

Wow...those are significant difference even after you back off $96 for tips for two individuals.

Maybe someone debarking today from the 2010 DVC Member's cruise can tell us if the extras are worth it.

If you want, you can read my trip report from the last members' cruise which is in my signature. Also, I will be doing another trip report from this year's cruise. Pictures and comments from people who were on this year's member cruise will be posted (I'm sure) on this year
s member cruise thread. Here is the link:

Oops...sorry about that! Got incorrect info from DH.

I crunched some numbers tonight. The 4 day cruises the week before and after the DVC cruise and the DVC cruise using points. The premium DVC chraging is 60%. I found one cat at 55% and most more than 60%. We are not doing it.

We decided not to do it either even though we were looking to cruise around the same time. We just booked a Nov 27th 4 day cruise, It was much cheaper for a family of 5. Would love to do it one day, but it is just not in our budget right now.

Agreed! We would have to pay with cash... The three of us (DH, DD and myself) could sail the week before in a verandah stateroom (Cat 5) for around $1450 versus the Member Cruise for $3000! That's a lot of pins, my friend! Or we could stick with our 7-night ressie on the Magic in a verandah stateroom in October for the same $3000.

Does anyone know if there has always been this high a premium? It just feels that Disney is coming after their most loyal fans. I agree with a slight premium based on the give-aways but DVC/DCL pick this time of year due to the lower number of travelers and hurricane season. Just seems wrong to screw us this way. :confused3 They sell out this cruise when they don't sell out any others during the month.

Good question. We've never done a Member Cruise in the past. We just considered this one b/c we already had a ressie in October 2011 that we could move, and more importantly, b/c the Member Cruise is on the Dream.

Looks like we're another member that's decided that the premium is just too high. We already have a 5/1/10 four night booked with airfare and a couple nights at BVW. Between the airline change fees, losing some points for changing (we had to borrow some) and the premium I can't justify doing this cruise.

We did the member cruise in 2007. It was our first cruise ever. Being I Disney Geek, I got overwhelmed with what was going on extra. I did not check then on how much a premium it was. It seemed high to us. We never regretted doing it. They brought in several folks who were imagineers and entertainers. If it is worth it is a personal decision. This is a DVC event. They do have to pay for everything. Is it too high? For us right now, I would say yes even though I would love to do another. We are doing a week in November and an Alaskan cruise in May. So too much too close together. Next year when the 2012 comes out we look again.
