2011 Beach & Yacht Club FAQ

WOW! This is great, I am thinking of staying here on our 2012 Christmas trip, how is it decorated for Christmas? Good? Bad? GREAT?

I haven't been to the Yacht or Beach Club during the holidays, but I believe the decorations at both resorts are spectacular. The decorations at the BC include an elaboarte gingerbread carousel and the YC has a train motif, I believe. If you poke around the photo boards (link on page 1 of this thread) you can probably find some examples.

Here are a few pictures taken by someone else from my "vault"

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane (or perhaps memory canal)!

I have a few of those as well...

The first picture before we left the house (we were CERTAIN we'd miss the storm):

Crossing into South Carolina:

And... ME, after DH managed to drag me out of the car, away from Evil Demon Alligators:

This was before the wind started really picking up and we thought the roof would blow off our house. Thankfully, there are no picutres of me at that time.

On the plus side, we actually had WAVES on the island the next morning. (Kiawah typically has smaller waves than the Gulf of Mexico...):thumbsup2

Had a meeting with the radiation doctor this afternoon. I start radiation 4/25 so starting 4/24, I'll be working Saturdays and Sundays instead of Sundays and Mondays. This will go on for six weeks.

Teena,
It was such an honour to meet with you. I am sorry if I seemed hurried, the family was out in the van at valet. We got our requests for ground floor woods and our room about 4 pm. Thank you so much for the surprise on Monday nite. You always go above and beyond. I will continue to keep you in our prayers and hope it all goes well.

I just booked the Beach club for August 7-14th; I think I'm nuts !!!!!

But, the kids getting older and 1 DD in college~ I just can't justify the missing school; and it's so expensive to visit over the holiday breaks.

Can anyone tell me what to expect in Aug. besides the heat :rotfl: I figure we can hang out by SAB during the day and the parks in the eve.

Are the parks open later ? I have never planned a summer trip~ any hints would be greatly appreciated :) :)

Thanks in advance !!!!

LOVE the pix of you on the floor!!!!

I think it's a rather graceful shot, myself.:lmao:

What I didn't share was the photo taken AFTER I had realized he was taking photos of his extremely traumatized soon-to-be wife. Gestures not to be seen from proper southern ladies were involved. So were the words "wedding", "called", and "off."

The hours of the parks change weekly and are decided upon by the number of guests booked. If I were to do WDW in the summer, I'd be at the parks 15 minutes before they opened each day and if you do that, you can accomplish in the first two hours what most people accomplish in eight hours later during the day. The temps at night can be really hot too. First thing in the morning is the best in my opinion. The best thing about staying at the Y&B is that you can hit the parks first thing in the morning and then when it gets really hot around 11 AM, come back and spend the rest of the day at SAB. Then it's so easy to walk over to Epcot or take the boat over to the Studios for an evening if you want.

Thanks for the info on the times for StormAlong Bay...it sounds like my daughter and I will definitely be able to not only enjoy it in the afternoons, but in the evenings, as well. I would not normally choose August to go - but this is a special treat for her to celebrate her 12th birthday.

Daughter loves WDW so much that she has taken her name, Mikayla, and turned it into "Mickey"! AND - she wants to be an animator when she grows up, so we're going to be spending a lot of time over at the Magic of Disney Animation - hence our stay at the Beach Club.

Another quick question - should we bring our own beach towels from home? Or will we be able to use towels from the hotel at SAB?

Also - Teena, I really appreciate all of the information you have out here on this thread - what wonderful advice! I hope Mickey and I have a chance to meet you this summer - we'll be there from 8/2 - 8/13...and then I'm coming back to the Beach Club in November for a solo trip. We'll be staying on the Club Level - can't wait! :)

I should definitely be there when you are in August. It will be in between my trips when "Peanut" arrives and when I go back to help get the classroom ready for the first week plus be there for the first week. I look forward to meeting you!

We have towels at SAB for you to use so you don't need to pack any. When you go into SAB and show your room keys (each person has to show their individual key), you will get a wrist band (good for that day) and as many towels as you need.

I think we need to start an "I Survived a Faye Vacation" support group.

Add me to it too! LOL! Faye was hovering over us for the last 5 days of our 7 day trip...... it was a memorably wet vacation!!! :lmao::rotfl:

Apologies in advance to anyone here who might be named Faye, or have a family member or friend named Faye. Unless they are horrible on vacations, then you are welcome to join.

We were at the WL during Faye. My husband actually said he thought it was the best August vacation we had ever taken!!!:confused3 He commented he'd take the storm over the heat anyday!!:rotfl:

We were there for all of faye and it was probably our best WDW Vacation ever. It was a nice break from the heat and very low crowds

What is the main differences between the two. Right now I have a club level room at the Beach Club reserved for 4/21 - 4/23. I am thinking of switching to Yacht Club. Is there a difference or any pros for doing this?

But the AAA just says club level - should I be concerned?

I would definitely double check with AAA that they have you in a cl room that has a garden view since it doesn't specify on your reservation.
BC v. YC is just personal preference. I love both, but we are one of those that actually prefer YC. It's quieter and more adult-like. I thought I wouldn't like the darker decor when we booked there last time when BC was booked, but we really did love it! Whether you stay YC or BC, you'll have an equally great time. They share all the same amenities.

I would agree with the getting there when the park opens, you will get a lot done in the morning, come back and take an afternoon break and then back in the evening.

Anytime at Disney is better than none :)

Adding to the trip list.....Love adding someone with a name like Polyluver. (We love the Poly too!) We are going the same week in Aug. As former fall trippers we Learned to manage like Teena said. Early morning, midday relax, swim, then back at night for 'atmosphere' , shows or to use fastpasses gathered that morning.

If you are a late sleeper another option would be show up at the an EMH park around 8pm. This would work best at MK. We've always talked about going for EMH evening. Magic Kingdom scheduled open till 11 (already, they could and often do extend) then 3 more hours. Riding Big Thunder at 2am just seems cool for some reason. :upsidedow

Good luck and stay cool!

We always go to WDW in August and the parks are open late. MK is open some nights until 2 or 3 am, HS until 1 am, Epcot until midnight. Usually one park is open late each night. Even the "regular hours can be late, like 11 pm. We love it. Yes, it is hot, but usually no hotter and humid than our summer up north.

We are leaving in 2 days :scared1: (I haven't packed a thing yet) and this will be our first trip in April. MK is open until 2 am some nights! Yea! It will feel like a normal vacation to us. We were totally unprepared when we went in early December one year and the parks closed at 6 pm.

This thread is likely a bit biased :rotfl2: but.... I'd really like opinions on the options I'm considering. I found out that I need to attend a meeting in ORL late next week - so I'm going to extend my stay over the weekend for the Flower & Garden Festival :flower3:

I'm considering the BC/YC area for the IG entrance and just pure relaxation - extremely busy time at work right now - or the WL (fave resort ever :duck:) for MK in the evening - love Wishes

So if you were going by yourself which would you pick :confused3

Thanks for any thoughts :goodvibes

Ok I may be haveing one of those moments and you may had already posted this answer but we will be staying in a 1 bedroom villa at BCV do they all have full balconies? And can I ask to have an Epcot view? I think that would just be the icing on the cake.
