2011 Beach & Yacht Club FAQ

This thread is likely a bit biased :rotfl2: but.... I'd really like opinions on the options I'm considering. I found out that I need to attend a meeting in ORL late next week - so I'm going to extend my stay over the weekend for the Flower & Garden Festival :flower3:

I'm considering the BC/YC area for the IG entrance and just pure relaxation - extremely busy time at work right now - or the WL (fave resort ever :duck:) for MK in the evening - love Wishes

So if you were going by yourself which would you pick :confused3

Thanks for any thoughts :goodvibes

Could you please explain about the YC's "new decor" that you refer to?
Thanks! We were there back in 2008

I last stayed there in 2006 when the rooms were quite light and airy, the beds had the covers with the yachts on them, the new decor have the white quilt covers but with navy accents, it's just of course my own personal taste but I prefer the BWI and BC room decors.

I would like to solicit some opinions as to whether it is better to check-in online or to do so in person. I seem to recall that some folks have said that online check-in is NOT the way to go (though it's hard to remember why after reading 2700+ posts :upsidedow) Are there any advantages to bypassing the online check-in? I would think that would be most convenient.

If we do check in in person, what kind of crowd might I expect in the BC lobby at around 5:00 pm on Memorial Day? (That is where I'll need to go for the BCV, right?) Should we maybe do our grocery shopping at the Winn-Dixie (or wherever's cheapest) first and then check in later? As long as we make our ADR at Cape May at 8:00.

You just needed to go to page 1!!! This is from the FAQ section:

How do I make a request on my reservation? How many requests should I make? What should I request?

When you arrive at the resort for checkin, you can ask before you take your keys if your requests were granted, and if not, see if there is anything available that meets your needs. Please note that you should do this through REGULAR checkin.

Online checkin is designed for grabbing your keys and going, no questions asked, so if there is a possibility you will ask for a room change, you shouldn't do this.

Requests vary because what is important to one family may be different for another family. Some popular requests are full balcony at the Beach Club, a day bed, close to lobby (or elevator or Stormalong Bay), close to Concierge Lounge (if you are staying club level) or close to EPCOT.

Should I checkin online in advance or wait until I am at the resort?

As noted in the responses above, if you don't have any questions and if you are going to just grab your keys and go, then you are great candidate for the online checkin. If there is a possibility that you will ask for a room change because you are not satisfied with the one that has been assigned to you, then you should wait until you arrive at the resort to check in.

I believe you were going to request EPCOT view on your reservation, because, well, why not. But as Teena and others has pointed out, since BCV is usually fully occupied, the likelihood that you can change your room upon checkin is unlikely. So the answer is--- I don't know what would be best for you!

Wow - I had no idea that was there - I just assumed page 1 was really old. Instead it's from Feb of 2011! Thanks for pointing that out!!

Just thought would give a quick update...
Genetic test came back Negative!!!:banana::cheer2:
Meeting with Plastic Surgeons about getting mastectomy...lump is way too big to have lumpectomy look good
Getting another biopsy on Monday on a lymph node that is enlarged.:sad1:

Now Dee when I started reading your post about "Dis"sy Awards I thought they were real and I missed the voting...'Cause this Thread is the Bomb!!!! Then as I started reading it I knew it was a joke but it had me laughing.

Teena I hope you are doing well.

That's great news that it's negative!! Good luck with the surgeons!

We're heading out tomorrow afternoon for the YC. We'll be there for four nights as we are tagging along with DH to his conference (this our fourth year). It never gets old.

Well, it's official - I've made my ressie for YC 12/9/11 - 12/19/11.
The only thing that will change that is if a discount comes out and I can only get it by switching to, say, BC. Right now we are booked @ full rack rate (sigh.)
Not having stayed @ YC, what/where are the garden view areas?
And I have a concern, as we have 10 nights, we may potentially want to go into the parks for 11 days, yet you can only get park passes for 10 days max. If we upgrade to an AP, I've read that that could mess up our deluxe dinning and room key - anyone have any thoughts, experience w/ this?
Nice to read that everyone is doing well, and - sorry Teena, for opting for the 'dark side' but that full balcony was too big a plus and after experiencing the Poly in a balconyless room I didn't want to chance a Juliet balcony @ the BC. We travel from the left (aka west) coast and always arrive later in the day and it feels like we get the leftover rooms as a result of that.

No worries ... hope you will still come and visit on the "lighter and brighter side".

I think once you check in and get your "package" and after you use your ticket once, you can take it to guest relations at the park (we're suppose to be able to do it at the concierge desk but with the new system, it's sporadic) and then pay for the difference to get it switched to an annual pass. Then it should not affect your dining or anything else. It's been a while since I sold tickets so I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure this can be done.

If we plan on using the quiet/adult pool, what area of the beach club should we ask for?

I've done this before. We took our KTTW card to the guest services window at MK on our second day. They pulled the park ticket off the key and then did the upgrade. They will give you the paper AP (AP's can't go on room keys anyway). It didn't mess up our dining or anything (although I MAY have mentioned to the CM that I wanted to be sure nothing happened to it ;))

Apologies. I will try to get into the habit of checking the first page or two before posting any new questions.

If we plan on using the quiet/adult pool, what area of the beach club should we ask for?

Just so you know, it's called the quiet pool because there is no slide. It is not an adult only pool, although there are definitely more kids at SAB.
