2011 Beach & Yacht Club FAQ

I keep reading everybody talk about the Yacht Club being "the dark side" because of the dark furniture (at first I thought it was jokingly making a play on using a Star Wars reference to say it's not the BC and therefore bad). I'm confused. I look at the pictures of the rooms at BC and YC and the rooms at YC look lighter to me. The headboard at BC is very dark while the headboard at YC is white. The dressers at BC are topped with dark wood while they're topped with light wood at YC. The curtains look equally dark at both. Can somebody please explain to me what I'm not understanding?

What type of room did you book? If full balcony is your ONLY request, you have a pretty good shot. Worse case scenario is that you don't get it for the first night and they switch you the second night. Now if you are real picky about other things like the location of your room, which floor, etc., it gets harder. Make sure you have only one request and it is "full balcony requested" ... make sure that is on the reservation or the computer system can't assign it if it doesn't see it. Also, do NOT do an on-line check-in. When you go up to the regular check-in, just say immediately, "a full balcony is very very important for us so before you cut keys, could you please check to see if I have one." If they should say "no", then tell them you would like a room change and if one is not available today, you want one tomorrow with a full balcony. Tell them that is your only request!!

Thanks Teena !!! We haven't booked yet, we're trying to decide between YC and BC. As far as floor or location, that doesn't matter at all to me.... so pretty much the balcony would be our only request. (unless DH wants a king bed, then that might win out) :confused3 I'll remember not to do online check in though.....thank you SOOOO much for your advice !

Yes, there are five lagoon view club level rooms (out of 26) that do not have a full balcony. Just add "full balcony requested" onto your reservation if you think you'd want one.

Balconies and views were never important to me and my family... we only slept, changed clothes, showered in the room. I always would book standard view (mostly club level though). I'd save the money for a massage or a dinner at Yachtsman. However, some people actually do spend lots of time on the balcony and looking at the view so it is important to them. I remember once when I spent the extra money at the Grand for a castle view. We spent five minutes the day we checked in staring at the castle while standing on the balcony ... loved it. Never walked out on the balcony or checked the view again. That's when I learned to save the money since our family never really cared except for the first five minutes.
Thank you for your reply and I must say the information you give on here is great, so it's only making us look forward even more to our first stay at the Beach Club.

I'm afraid I started "the dark side". Whenever they would schedule me to work at the YC, I'd say, "oh no, the dark side". I work in the lobby. With all the woods, it is dark in the lobby as compared to the beach side which is light and open. It's also very quiet in the lobby and serene compared to the hustle and bustle of the lobby at the BC. I don't like working in the lobby on the dark side because hardly anybody stops and talks to me or trades pins. There are fewer children and more guests that are there for conventions. It's a very lovely resort ... I'm just not a dark wood, dark furniture, low lighting type of person. Give me the light, airy, full of life BC lobby!!!!

Hello CR Resort Fan,

Just because I need to live vicariously through the trips of others while the long months pass until March 2012, please tell me more about your trip.

Are you staying CL at both BW and BC and how long are you there for? It looks like you have a wonderously long trip planned.

Are you still a true CR Resort Fan or are you being swayed by the other resorts?

:)
Yes we are staying Club Level at the Boardwalk Inn which will be our third time staying there, then we are spending 4 nights staying Club Level at the Beach Club.

Now I will always be a fan of the Contemporary and we even tried to get a Club Level reservation over there after the Boardwalk Inn, however it was sold out with the 35% room only offer. So because of that we thought that it would be a great time to try the Beach Club.

It is very hard to get a king bed at either the YC or BC. You cannot book a king bed. We do not have that category. Some resorts do though. It is only a request and although there are more at the YC, there are also many more requests for them at the YC from the convention guests. Most people that request one do not get them unfortunately.

Thank you. I hope you enjoy the BC. One thing I believe you will find different is the sliced hard boiled eggs we serve in the lounge for breakfast. Its been a while since I've stayed at some of the club levels on property but I don't ever remember seeing them elsewhere. Obviously each resort feels different and offers different things. I think you will find the atmosphere at the BC one of "I'm at the beach." That's what it reminds me of.

Oooooh, the lobby. Got it!! I like the look of the pictures of the rooms at YC better because the rooms look lighter and airier to me (is that a word? it doesn't look right). Thanks!! I was getting confused. I'm easily confused it seems. LOL

I can see that the lobby is darker at YC than BC. I just wasn't sure if I was looking at outdated pictures of the rooms or not. We don't really hang out in the lobby of our resort often so the rooms are much more important to us than the lobby, though I will try to come by and say hi when we're there in August.

I wonder if the difference in traffic in the lobbies is partly due to having a character breakfast right off the BC lobby? I do also remember a towel animal demonstration going on there one day a couple years ago when we were leaving a CMC breakfast. That was fun!!

August just won't get here fast enough. :goodvibes Thanks again Teena!

Well during our Club Level stays at the Contemporary, Polynesian and Boardwalk Inn I can say they didn't have any Hard Boiled Eggs during breakfast. Plus sometimes my Mom likes to eat them so it's great knowing they will be available. I also read that just like the Boardwalk Inn the lounge at the Beach Club has Oatmeal 365 days a year and that's great to know.

Yep, those towel animals was fun but unfortunately they don't do that anymore. I think you are right, the character breakfast adds to the crowds in the lobby in the morning. In the afternoon it is mainly families with small children coming back from the parks or pool and heading to the rooms for a nap. Whereas at the YC, since there are more convention guests there, there isn't as much traffic during the day ... they seem to have meetings all day long. Makes for a very long and lonely day with no pin trading or yacking!!!

Yep, our oatmeal bar has turned non-oatmeal-eaters into fans!!

That sounds like a wonderful trip. In fact it is so wonderful that I suggest that I would make a great travelling companion for your family and since we are both from the Toronto area I think it would be fantastic if you would pick me up and take me with you on your trip.

I promise I'll be a good traveller. :)

The oatmeal was outstanding!

And the best thing about the hard-boiled eggs is that I DIDN'T HAVE TO PEEL THEM for my boys. They come all nice and cleanly de-shelled and sliced!

TeenaS and everyone--Thank you all, I love this thread. As soon as I think of a question, I come on here and someone has asked it. We are going to need a crib or PnP (we really don't care which) and I was wondering how it would fit in the BC GV CL Room but sounds like we will just make it work. I am wondering though if a PnP might be better since it is easy to take down if we want more room. But it is Disney and it won't matter since I got to pick the resort!

This just made my day! I'm staying CL at BC in June & I love oatmeal!

Lookee!

I'm laughing about what you said about the castle view at the GF.

Now, a balcony and a view are important to me because I sit out there in the morning drinking my coffee while DH runs (he runs marathons). I love that time of the morning before I wake the kids. It's my "get ready for the day" time.

It is funny though because we once paid for a castle view room at the GF. We were staying for two weeks so it wasn't cheap. We had stayed in gv rooms the previous two years and thought this would be great - the kids could watch Wishes from our room and it would be very relaxing. Now the view was great. The best day was the 4th of July when we were able to watch those special fireworks from our own room. The funny part was though, after a couple of nights the kids asked to go back down to Gasparilla's and the marina to watch the fireworks the way we had the previous years. I don't know whether it was just a tradition or that they liked having ice cream from Gasparilla's while they watched the fireworks, but I cringed thinking how much more money we spent for that view and they would rather be down by the marina!

Don't forget that the Yacht Club is the preferred resort of Darth Vader and the Empire toadies. :darth:

I am a YC fan. Love it! Have stayed at both. The YC lobby is a bit darker. BC colors are more pastel/light, YC has more wood. I think there are some pics at the beginning pages that might show this better. The rooms are likely very similar. Ours was very light with the curtain open. We overlooked the quiet pool, great for am coffee! (I have pictures of the lobby on my phone and I don't think it looks dark really. Definitely different from BC)
HTH.
