I have no idea what's scheduled for then but there is always something going on ... to keep a resort in tip top shape, there is constant work being done. I assume you are having a Disney wedding? If so, I would call my wedding coordinator at Disney and tell her about the letter from Virgin Holiday and tell her you need to know what it is that's being refurbed since it could affect your pictures, etc. I know if it were me, I'd definitely want to know. It could be something as little as painting the front entrance but you should find out.

As far as rooms being noisy, all "noise" refurbs are done during the day when people are not normally in their rooms. Unfortunately, it's a constant job to keep all the WDW resorts in great shape so there is always something going on.

Thanks Teena! I guess if it was going to be a big thing, you would probably have heard something!

I had a bit of a panic when I first heard but I am just going to go with the flow and what happens happens! We are first timers at the BC so I think we will be so overwhelmed with how close everything is that we won't even notice!

See you in September!

Can you request a daybed or cot for Beach Club Villas one bedroom villas? My 11 year old son is complaining that he has to sleep with his 8 year old sister on the soda bed. In 2009 we stayed at AKL Kidani and the one bedroom villas had a sofa bed and a pull out chair.

Hello everyone! We just returned home this afternoon (from the Poly, but I promise there will be relevant information in this post!)

1) Welcome Home Teena! Glad to hear all is well with Jeanne! I had a great plan to stop by the BC to see you yesterday, but it fell through. My husband needed a quiet place to call a client while we were at DHS, so of course I suggested that we walk over to BC solarium! He would make his call and (if you were there on your usual Monday) I would visit with you! On the way out, I would purchase, photograph and drink a Sunken Treasure for the board. We were headed toward you when it started storming. We tried to catch the boat, but it pulled away as we were running to it. So with the heavy rain, a tired pre-schooler and an uncertain boat situation, we had to abandon our plan and catch a bus back to the Poly to wait out the storm. But we'll see you next month!

2) Amanda and Mickey T, hope it went well on Saturday! Amanda, I thought I might recognize you from your trip report photos while we were at the Poly - we were in Samoa all weekend and went to MK on Sunday (I remember that was your plan, too!)

3) BC vs. Poly. I stayed at the Poly with my parents throughout childhood and until my college years when they tried the BC and we all loved it! So returning to the Poly was very sentimental for me and we had a wonderful time. We were really lucky to get a great view of the volcano pool, lagoon and GF from our balcony and we enjoyed all the extra space of a Poly room. But BC remains our favorite resort - can't beat walking to two parks, all the Epcot dining options, the theming at BC and SAB. My husband prefers the room size and decor at Poly (I like the BC theme better) but we both agree that the transportation options at BC are the best fit for our family. Even though we spent a higher percentage of time at MK on this trip (for our pre-schooler's birthday) we end up at Epcot for most dinners, so we really missed the BC location. If anyone has any questions about BC vs. Poly, I'm happy to help!

Amanda, I know that I mentioned earlier that our family of 5 is very comfortable in a standard BC room, but if you are used to the size of a Poly room for your three young kids I'm thinking you may want to go with BCV. (Our two older boys are pre-teens, so we're always on the go and we don't spend much time in the room so a regular BC room works for us.)

For the poster who asked about BC vs. Poly drawer space: I'd agree there is much more drawer space at BC. Poly had more room for shoes (little rack in one of the two closets.) I also line up our suitcases on the floor of the BC closet, and I could not do that at the Poly.)

4) World Showcase dining! Just a few thoughts from this trip, since dining has become a topic here recently: 1) the new caramel shop in Germany is wonderful - smells great, and the pecan bar was outstanding; 2) we usually stop at the French bakery for treats, but I took a look at the meal options for chimo2u - for heavier eaters, the options may not be great, but they would be perfect for me and for our boys - ham and cheese croissant, quiche, baguettes with brie and turkey or ham and cheese (a white cheese - looked like swiss.) Not sure how that works with the dining plan, but it looked great; 3) tried Rose and Crown for dinner this time - loved the imperial sampler (shared it with my husband) and the soup - didn't love the wedge salad (but that was my fault - a poor entree choice); 4) we're not eating at Via Napoli until next month, but it looked great; 5) the grey goose lemon slushie is as good as I thought it would be! I poured it in my empty refill mug and threw in a straw - much easier to push the stroller without that silly plastic glass!

Thanks for the info! We're currently booked in a 1 bedroom at BLT for August bc no 2 bedrooms at BCV are available with the discount code. That's nearly a $2000 price difference! The 1 bedroom at BLT is the same price as CL at BC so we're going for the extra space and 2nd bathroom.
We were at MK on Saturday. I was the crazy lady wearing a medal everywhere (even on the flight home last night!).

Welcome back to you! So glad to hear you had a wonderful time. Thank you for all of the helpful and objective information about the differences you have found between the Poly and the BC. And for all the food info!!! My favorite subject. My boys got the baguettes with the turkey and ham and cheese for lunch on the last day of our trip in July using the meal plan. They enjoyed it. Love the tip about the slushie in the empty refill mug. I was sloshing my Grand Marnier slushie in the little plastic glass all over the world showcase as I was rushing to meet my family in China and snapping pictures along the way.

I know nothing is ever guaranteed. We've been to the beach club several times but one time stands out more than any other. The last week of april 2009 into the first week of may we stayed, on our DVC, in the villas. It was a one bedroom villa so that we could spread out, the 2 of us and have plenty of rooom for preparation of our wedding.
This room now has special meaning to us as it was our living environment for the most important time of our lives.
We would love to have this room again for our 2 year anniversary, Do you think if I called the front desk or someone I could reques this room again for that reason? Or would it be a lost cause?

Not Teena, but if I recall correctly, in the past Teena and others have indicated that since the BCVs are pretty much booked to capacity, requests in general are difficult to grant and a request as specific as an actual room would be incredibly unlikely to be granted. The room would need to be vacated on the day you are checking in.

If you have no other preferences that you will be sacrificing for this request, I suppose it couldn't hurt to try to contact the front desk, but I certainly would not get your hopes up.

Definitely request the room number on your reservation. It's a definite long shot that you will get it especially since its in the Villas. We are sold out at the Villas every single day. So, that room would have to be vacated on the exact day you are checking in. If it's on your reservation though as a request, the room assignor will try to make it happen. I would just know that it is a very long shot. One other thing you can do is when you check in, tell them you requested Room ___ and if it isn't available that day, ask them to set it up as a room change on the day that room becomes available. (If you are agreeable to wouldn't mind a room change later during your vacation.)

yacht v Beach

The brochures will soon be out here in the UK for 2012 in Orlando :)

We are considering Yacht and Beach (depending on the prices when the brochures are launched.)

Have realised that most UK travel agents quote the two resorts together and then let you choose your resort when booking.

Having read these pages I have come to the conclusion that the best ways for us to choose is the most convenient resort for easy access to and from the swimming pool. Which should I choose with this in mind? TIA

With SAB set squarely in between YC and BC there is really no choice (IMHO) for which one has an easier access. It's the same from either. Now what I would do is request a room close to the lobby of either the YC or the BC which would place you closer to the entrance than if you were placed on the far side of either resort.

We're home too! Came home and everything is covered in ice and snow. Me no like.......Sisters flight out was cancelled Monday so they 'had' to stay with us our one night at BCV's. Still a little suspicious if it was really cancelled???? Great trip though. Pulled off the surprise at GF with DW. She kept saying "It's nice but it's still not the Beach Club". That's when you know you have found your home resort. Ate at V&A. Window seat at Cali Grill for Wishes. Once in a lifetime trip (again).

The two bedroom at SSR had definite wear and tear inside. Must be time for an resort upgrade there. Carpet looked real bad. Enjoyed walking to DTD and the Lobby.

Race went great. Walked most of the way with DW. Great memories and great pictures.
We hit Capt Cooks/Wishes one night and had early dinner at Kona Friday. Sisters loved Kona.

Amanda

Oh yeah, I saw you....Wait. I saw a bunch of crazy ladies wearing their medal!

Dee. Here are a few thumbnails of the mermaid...I can PM you if you need better quality. It was very cloudy (after the pixarmom rain).

Welcome back, Mike! So glad to hear you had some great experiences. Congratulations on pulling off the resort switch and for completing the race.

Thank you so much for the pictures. If you could PM them to me (I cleared out a few messages so I am no longer 100% full) or if you still have my e-mail address kicking around, you could do that too. Whatever is easiest for you. So glad to have another picture to add to the BCV post.

Thanks, again!

Trying again :goodvibes

Haven't gone through the whole thread, sorry! I think I'll be able to get a few days at one of these resorts in a split stay. I have a few questions that may have already been answered:

1) What are the chances of getting a daybed in the room? DD will be 15, and DS16, so I would like the daybed; do they have those in the standard view rooms?

2) Leaning towards YC, how far is the walk to DHS? Epcot?

3) When were the YC and BC last refurbished?

Thanks for any help! :flower3:

1) You can ask but requests are not guaranteed
2) 8-10 minute walk to Epcot's IG entrance, 20-25 to DHS (I prefer the boat)
3) Both YC and BC refurbed in last 2-3 years. Constantly maintained and are in really good shape (IMHO).

Hope this helps.

Just wanted to link to my YC review on the main page. We had an overall great time!

Thanks for the trip report. It's nice to hear others say the same things that I experienced, like the towel animals and the excellent mousekeeping service. I agree that some people can be inconsiderate of others but they are on vacation and tend to forget that the world doesn't always evolve around them when they are outside their own environment. Sorry to hear about the castmembers not being as friendly this trip, I did not have the same experience when I was at the YC in early December. It sounds like you had a really great attitude about it all though, what I refer to as the akunamatada approach.

Mike, welcome back to the reality of winter. Glad to hear it all went well on this trip. Isn't it great to have that view of wishes from Cali Grill? Happened to me once too and it's something I'll never forget. Dinner at V&A too?? Boy you really went all out on this trip. But then, you only get to do this kind of stuff once in your lifetime (unless you can hit it big in the lottery).
