2010 promo information is here! "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day."

Wow, thanks you guys for your responses! I knew you all would be in the know. :lovestruc You're all awesome. I feel much better about saving my voucher for a Dec. trip now.

Just remember to use your voucher on or before DEC 15 10. For after that the dates are blocked out.

I am running into this problem as well. We signed up for a service this weekend. The description said 12 and over, but the woman I spoke to said DD9 could volunteer no problem. But when I went to add her name, the computer wouldn't let me since it said 12 and over. I called the Hands on Network and they said the organization needs to change it on the website. So far they haven't and we are scheduled for Sat. I am so close to changing her birthdate on the registration, but am afraid when we go to redeem the vouchers. It's also a matter of an child's ticket vs. adult ticket.

Same thing happened to us. My kids are 6 & 9. The organizer said my kids could volunteer, but according to Hands On when I went to register them, they had to be over 13.

I tried contacting Disney and Hands On and didn't get any resolution. I finally just went to Hands On Network and changed their birth year so they appear to be 13.

We did our volunteer service, got the vouchers, and traded them in to the ticket booth for fast passes. No where on the voucher did it say their birthdays.

My recommendation is to just change their birthdays in the system.

Mouseplanet posted this info - lots of questions answered here about the program ending:

Charities prepare to end Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program

During a huge "Celebrate Volunteers" event at Walt Disney World last month, Disney Parks and Resorts announced that over 600,000 people had volunteered or signed up to volunteer during the first six weeks of the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” program, Disney's 2010 marketing campaign that had the stated goal of encouraging one million people to participate in volunteer events in their community. That number has now reportedly climbed to over 700,000, and MousePlanet reader Sharon Flummerfelt alerted us last week that the program might be ending even earlier than many expected.

Late Wednesday night, the HandsOn Network sent an e-mail to volunteer organizations who are participating in the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program, advising those groups that "the Give A Day. Get A Disney Day program is forecasted to come to a close very shortly." After MousePlanet contacted the Disneyland Resort for comment, the Resort issued a statement that read "We are close to our goal of inspiring one million people to make a difference by volunteering. This spirit of volunteerism is making a significant impact in communities across the country." A spokesperson would not confirm whether the program is concluding once the million-volunteer goal is reached, and could not comment on how many vouchers have been redeemed.

The HandsOn Network e-mail lists steps that organizations need to take to "wind down" the program, and includes several points of interest to potential volunteers:

- No new applications will be accepted from organizations wanting to participate in the program.

- All flexible schedule volunteer opportunities were removed from the search database on March 5.

- Organizations can now post only date- and time-specific opportunities—no "to be arranged" opportunities may be listed.

- Once Disney reaches its one-million ticket goal, the program ends and organizations will no longer be able to post new volunteer opportunities of any kind for the program.

- Only volunteers who have completed the registration and signed up for a specific date and time to volunteer before the program ends will get their vouchers for a Disney theme park ticket once their service has been verified.

This announcement came as a surprise to many of the participating organizations, who had just two days notice about the changes to the program. The HandsOn Network maintains a discussion board where volunteer organizations can ask HandsOn Network representatives for help with the program (link), and the recent postings show that many groups are confused and upset by the news. Several members worry that their organizations will be unable to attract as many volunteers for events scheduled later in the year, and complain that the program unfairly favored winter and spring events. Since groups can only post events 60 days in advance, organizations who had planned summer beach clean-ups and fall festivals will likely be unable to list their events before the million-volunteer mark is reached.

The early end to the program also presents a challenge for Disney Parks and Resorts, which now gets to deal with having this year's national marketing campaign cut short. (A source speculates that Disney decided not to call the 2010 program "the year to volunteer," fearing it would have to scramble to find a way continue the program without giving out any more tickets if the promotion was more popular than expected. If so, whomever was responsible for that decision is probably breathing a huge sigh of relief right now). Disney will likely continue those in-park promotions which recognize and "celebrate" people who are redeeming their volunteer certificates, but return to the "What Will You Celebrate" marketing theme for national advertising. Expect "Summer Nightastic!" and "World of Color" campaigns to dominate local advertising for Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and potentially even an early roll-out of Walt Disney World's 40th Anniversary celebration.

The pending end of the program has left many current and potential volunteers confused about their status, so here is a bit of information that may help answer your questions and hopefully alleviate your concerns. First, the basics: While Disney has said that the goal is to inspired one million people to volunteer, information we've received from local charities indicates that Disney is basing that count on the number of people who have registered through the Disney Web site for projects, not the number who actually completed the projects. These groups expect that Disney will "end" the program (close it to new volunteers) once one million people have registered for events.

I've already completed my volunteer service and received my voucher:

If you have already completed your volunteer service and have received your confirmation and voucher, you are already "counted." Your voucher is still valid through December 15, 2010 (subject to Resort-specific blockout dates).

I've already completed my volunteer service but have not received my voucher:

- If you registered through the Disney Web site and have already completed your volunteer service, you have already been counted, and your voucher should be issued within two weeks of your event. Once received, your voucher is still valid through December 15, 2010 (subject to Resort-specific blockout dates).

- If it's been more than two weeks since you completed your service, the Disney Web site provides the following advice: "If you have not received any communication or seen the status of your volunteer activity change after 2 weeks, please contact the Guest Support Team for assistance. Please keep in mind that if you signed up for the program as part of a household, verification emails are sent to the lead volunteer."

I've already signed up, but I haven't completed my volunteer service:

- If you have already registered through the Disney Web site for a date-and-time specific opportunity, you have already been "counted." You will receive a voucher once your service is completed and has been verified by the sponsoring organization, EVEN IF Disney announces an "end" to the program before your event date. Once issued, your voucher will still be valid through December 15, 2010 (subject to Resort-specific blockout dates).

- If you contacted a participating organization through the Disney Web site to schedule a volunteer opportunity and received an e-mail from the HandsOn Network with a link to sign up, you can still use the link contained in that e-mail to register for your selected opportunity until the program ends. You are not "counted" until you complete that registration process. If you have lost that e-mail, you will need to contact the organization directly for assistance. If you can no longer volunteer for that specific opportunity, you may be able to reschedule for another opportunity with the same organization before the program ends - again, contact them directly for assistance.

- If you contacted a participating organization through the Disney Web site to schedule a volunteer opportunity but never received a reply, you have NOT been "counted." You can either contact the organization again, or register for another opportunity in your area before the program ends to be eligible.

I haven't signed up yet:

- If you haven't already scheduled your volunteer service, this is the time to do it. The HandsOn Network site currently lists opportunities for the next 60 days, so be sure to get registered before the program ends. You must make sure that you properly register for your chosen event through the Disney Web site (link). If you just show up at an event without pre-registration, the group can not confirm your participation and you will not receive a voucher.

Yay! I dropped off my blankets today, now just waiting on my vouchers. She said they were anticipating over 7,000 blankets from this program...amazing!

Had a quick quetion for those who have printed their vouchers. The person I talked to today when I turned in the blankets said I had to put in a specific date to print the voucher. Is there a way to enter different dates for different household members? I was going to redeem DH's and mine the next time we went for the pin set, and save the kids' vochers for the summer to redeem for Fastpasses.

I entered the date I am planning to go to DL when it asked on the HandsOn site as I was redeeming my voucher but the date did not print on the voucher. You can go whenever you want as long as it is on or before Dec. 15 and is not a block out date.

You can enter different dates for everyone if you want. It allows you to go person by person or all at once.

Maybe I've just missed it, but does anyone know if the fast passes are only good that one day? If so, I think the kid and I will redeem ours on different days. If not, we'll do them both at once.

Question: I signed up my family of 6 to make blankets for a local animal shelter. A friend was going to make them with us and asked me to let her know what date I ended up with, so I called her immediately. By the time she went to sign up a few minutes later, the promotion had ended!

However, I went through my account with HandsOn and was able to add her to our group. Will this qualify her for the voucher? Thanks.

I believe they are date-specific.

When I signed up my family I added my mother. Then I removed her because I saw that she had to "live in the same household." I signed her up separately. If you are signing up a group project I think it is ok. If you are signing up a "household of your family members" it is not, because she would have to live at the same address.

I would think that if it allowed you to register her that you would be ok, but I don't know the answer for sure.

I don't remember seeing where it said you had to live in the same household? I signed my parents up with us and we all received our vouchers (and they don't live with us).

Are there only certain places at WDW to upgrade the voucher to a mutli-day pass? Sorry if this a repeat question.

We completed our volunteer service, the organization submitted our names, and Disney sent the "print the voucher" e-mail, but only for DD7 and myself. I checked the Give a Day website and it lists DH's service as pending. All three of us were reported at the same time by the service organization.

I know Disney says to wait two weeks for verification, but I'm curious to know if any other families have had their service confirmed at different times even when they did the same volunteer project?

I'd be concerned, too. My family of three did our service together, and all communication and certificates all came together. My instinct would be to go straight to the organization you volunteered through to let them know there's something not quite right. Good luck!

The confirmation came for DH's voucher. Several other families involved in this project ( it was done through my DD's Daisy Girl Scout troop) had the same problem, but I think everyone has had their service verified now. The animal rescue organization was really sweet and sent us a copy of the email that showed we had all been entered as having completed our commitment. Who knows why some went through while some took longer!

Now we just need to decide whether to use the voucher on a blockout day over Labor Day weekend or apply it towards a Premium AP!

I'm so confused...so you have to chose your date to visit when you print the voucher? What if you change your plans after you print it?

Not a problem. The dates don't even print out on the voucher. It's probably just for Disney's marketing team or planning purposes. You can even change your mind and use them at DW even if you put in DL.

We will be going to DL in June. We have our vouchers to redeem when we arrive. We want to use one for a family fastpass for the day. I know it says you can get this if you have a valid multi-day ticket in hand.

My question: Is there a minimum number of days required? I was just going to buy a 2 day ticket once I arrived, then show that to get my fastpass for the day. Is there anywhere to buy a 2 day ticket in advance, or is it just 3 days or longer?

Yes, everyone has to be present when you pick them up. The CM at the ticket booth scanned everyone's ticket media to make sure it was valid. In fact, they were a bit suspicious that our friends had GAD plastic tickets (like an AP pass or hopper) not paper ones. We were given the tickets immediately after volunteering because our volunteer event was one of Disney's promotional stops. The supervisor at the ticket booth said that Disneyland hasn't received their supply of plastic tickets yet.

My question is, both my son & I are exchanging our vouchers for the special FP - the others in the party did not volunteer. So is it just he & I that have to be present or everyone that is going with us?

Second part - so we each get 3 Donald's and 3 Daisy's and I know each FP is good for that person and up to 5 people (total of 6). We will off and on have 7 total in the party. I know with regular fastpass, if only 1 person in the group does not have the FP, they usually let it slide -any experience with the special FP's?
