2010 promo information is here! "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day."

I'm getting so frustrated! I can get through the page that lists all of the volunteer opportunities and then I click on the green button that says, "show details". It won't let me register.

I just thought some of you that are frustrated might not be if you had read / remembered this from the promotion information so I am posting here:

"Keep in mind

* The volunteer opportunities resulting from your search are only those available within the next 60 days.
* Volunteer opportunities are always being added, so check back again if at first you don't see an opportunity that interests you.
* Volunteer opportunities are only located in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada, and volunteers must have a residence in one of those locations.
* You must be 18 years of age or older to sign up. Children must be at least 6 years of age to participate in this program, although other age restrictions may apply depending on the volunteer opportunity. Children ages 6 to17 must be accompanied by an adult when volunteering."

It's only been up for 1 day. :goodvibes

I just wish they would have had the info posted sooner so we could do it before our 1 day Jan trip. Oh well. I was also hoping for more opportunities in Salt Lake City, but there is only 1 for the whole city, others are 30 miles or so away. I think this is a great idea on Disney's part to encourage volunteering.

 There are more volunteer opportunities hiding

Try this... search by zip as you did before.... THEN scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page. Below the list of volunteer opportunities there's a blue banner with a link for more opportunities.

It says:
"Not finding enough opportunities? Try broadening your search. Select ALL interest areas.

Click here for information for HandsOn Network partner organizations you can contact that will have additional qualifying opportunities"

I clicked and I found many more of the organizations in our town including Give2TheTroops...the one I was looking for! I think if the volunteer group didn't put in a specific activity or date they are only listed here.

:dance3:

Aha! When I clicked on the button at the bottom about more volunteer opportunities, a ton of organizations in my area came up. Try it!!

There must be a problem with the final step because all of the oppurtunites I am interested in still have the same spots as of yesterday around 5 p.m. pst! So I keep on trying. The error message is...

webservice return error-"error in use"

I am giving a day, by trying to sign up ha ha ha!!!

I can't seem to get my dd signed up. Today I signed into our acct and simply added her to our volunteer opportunity knowing good and well that she had to be 8 to volunteer ( she is only 7 ). I just didn't know what else to do. There seemed to be no way to navigate the site otherwise. Originally I wanted to sign us all up for the same opportunity but there was literally nothing that she was old enough for except a library task and that was set up for children only ages 6-12 so we couldn't do it with her. It takes 24 hrs. to verify her status so I'm hoping that they will send a msg saying she can't do our opportunity but hopefully a working link that allows me to set her up in the library task. Any suggestions? Anyone else have the same issue?:confused3

:rotfl: I always like to acknowledge a good joke when I see it! :)

This morning I was able to sign up my family of 5 for a Gardening Project for next Saturday. It took many tries, but maybe now the system is up and running a little better. Good Luck everyone! :hippie:

FINALLY IN!!! Thanks, LiseG for your suggestions! However, because we live in a smaller (not tiny) town, this didn't really help a whole lot. I even tried that city 2 1/2 hours away, but I couldn't find anything that the kids would be interested in that accepted their ages. The reading activities would have been perfect for DD, but they required 14 year old. I was really interested the the Linus Project that a PP had talked about but couldn't find it under any zip. I finally put in a zip from 200 miles away from a town so tiny that they have 1 stoplight. Low and behold, there was Project Linus!!! The whole family is signed up, and I know what art is for the next couple of weeks. So, any of you that are interested in Project Linus, use a zip from a tiny town in your state.

Volunteer opportunities in my area filled up very quickly. As noted elsewhere, new openings will be added, as these slots are only listed for 60 days in advance of the actual service date.

IMPORTANT: This thread will grow much longer, just like the one about the birthday promotion. The original post will be updated as new information comes in, so you don't have to wade through hundreds of messages to see if the question you have has already been answered.

Thanks for this info, I just found many more opportunities in my area.

finally got one....the one I really really wanted was gone, but I am super excited to give a day for the one I did get!

Disney's Special FASTPASS® cards for certain attractions for you and up to 5 additional members of your party.†

Does this mean that if my GF and I do this that we can use her "redemption" 1day and both get all of the fastpasses and then on the next day use mine and get all of the fastpasses?

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

In the end, it is "all about me".....

I went to the give a day get a day manage account page...at the bottom it says add a volunteer, so I did that...then I added her to my volunteer thing, so now it shows that I am the lead person and she is volunteer 1.

But now it says I am not signed up for anything and she is and it says I need to go and sign up for something, so I tried but now there are no spots available...GRRRR I hope this makes sense!

Hmmm.... Yep, it makes sense. Not sure on the answer to your questions though. My only thought is... Did you get a confirmation of your volunteer opportunity when you signed up? If so - is there contact information with the organization?

I signed up and inquired about an opportunity to volunteer (the closest one to my house- 10miles), and got an email response today that my time needed to complete the "give a day, get a day" program with them would be one week and 40 hours! Yikes...I don't think so. It's a great cause and I would love to help them, but realistically, I cannot help for 40 hours. Hopefully some more opportunities will open up close to me soon. I would be curious to know how many people actually sign up for that? And, it's a little misleading because it doesn't state the time needed to fulfill the obligation in the description on the website.
