2010 Passporter Book Update

[QUOTE

The 2009 book doesn't contain stuff on med ports really[/QUOTE]

I'm glad i read this - i was just going to go ahead and order the 2009 version for our Med cruise - think i'll wait. Thank you

I can't believe how a delayed book has upset people to the point of slander.

I'm waiting for my copy, too, but I'll continue to wait. The books are wonderful and, if I had a cruise scheduled before the end of May, I'd simply get an older version and use that, coupled with all the helpful advice on here.

As it is, we already had our 2010 cruise, in January, and we managed quite well without the book for this year. I'm basically getting it to learn now about some of the European excursions -- and we're not planning on doing those until my daughter is out of high school.

And we're cruising again, in January 2011, so the book will still be relevant.

Hopefully, next year's book, with information on the Dream, will be out before our New Year's Eve 2011/2012 cruise.

I guess I plan so far in advance that a late book doesn't destroy my psyche, lol!

I don't see anyone running for mental health help over the delay. I'm glad the delay doesn't affect YOUR cruise planning. That's great news for YOU. It may annoy other people who were looking forward to the additional guidance for their upcoming cruises. After all, if everything in the book were simple and easy to find here, then why spend the money at all? Some like the convenience of having it all in one place, well organized and easy to carry. I think we'll manage to live with our disappointment, but that hardly means it is somehow wrong to point out that it is poor business management.

I'll still buy the book whenever they manage to get it out, but I certainly won't be preordering one and letting them keep my money all those additional months past the promised date.

Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like I was gloating -- but no one has ever felt sorry for me in that I can't ever get the right book for the year, as we usually cruise in January. It is interesting to see that others don't deal with this occurrence in the same way.

But I did want to point out that it seems so senseless to get so hot under the collar over something there's little control over. I, too, am waiting for my pre-ordered copy to arrive. It's just silly to point fingers and call names, don't you think?

If it's helpful to anyone, I sent an email to Passporter requesting that my order be canceled as the delay would put its arrival past the time where I could use it. It took four days, but they did issue me a credit for what I paid. Not sure if that's standard procedure now or I just got lucky, but thought I'd pass the info along.

I've just had notification from Amazon (UK)that my order has been cancelled as they are now unable to get the book and have discontinued it from their listings.:rolleyes1

Can anybody suggest an alternative book? Should I go for the earlier edition or a different guide altogether. I'm doing a med cruise but am totally new to cuising and can live without the port guides. Suggestions?
Thanks

There are benefits of preordering: You get a discount and you recieve the book earlier than you would if you waited for it to be 'in-stock'.

Since I trust passporter to fill my order and don't need the $14.00 that the refill costs, I preordered.

Per the passporter website, you can cancel a preorder at any time prior to shipment.

If you can wait until mid-late May for the book, I would preorder the 2010 edition through the passporter website. By ordering through passporter, you will get it a couple weeks sooner than you would have through Amazon or another retailer. If you can't wait, I would order the 2009 edition, probably also through passporter.com.

Has anyone tried to get on their website today? I've been trying and have not had any luck. Hmmmm...wonder what that means???:confused3 By the way, I too am waiting for my 2010 Passporter starter pack...

What? I haven't had mine cancelled? Was getting mine from Amazon due to the issue of postage (on the Passporter site postage to the UK is more than the book costs!)

Off the Passporter Forum from Dave (one of the authors):

Thanks for the heads-up. Since this book is definitely still in the works, and since our distributor (to whom Amazon undoubtedly refers to as their supplier) still lists it as in the works, that e-mail is not accurate. I chalk it up to "computerized form letter."

Mine has also been cancelled by Amazon (UK).
If its a work in progress why has Amazon seemingly cancelled people's orders?
Anyone been in touch with Amazon (UK) yet?

I pre-ordered a refill for the deluxe ed. late last year. I don't actually need the book until late in 2010. But, here's the thing--if the book is not actually going to be available until mid May (5 months into 2010) where is the point in pre-ordering it at all?

I guess I don't see it being to customers in May. Dave said in his own newsletter that it is still being revised. If thats the case it has not even gone overseas to the printer yet and we are into the last 10 days of April now.

I went onto their website this morning to verify their cancellation policy prior to making my last post. I just went back on it to drop into their forum.

The site appears to be working fine.

Sent them an email and just heard back, took about 2 days. They are going to send me the 2009 edition for free and when the 2010 copy comes out they will also send me that copy as well. So I am happy with that! And heh you never know maybe the 2010 will come before June?

I just noticed that they have a Med ports guide ebook, also. This may fill the gap for those of you that are afraid that you won't get your 2010 passporter in time.

I canceled my order last month. You're all right what good is a guide book after the vacation?
