2010 news from the Magic

Hi lauren..it'd be cool if we had a med reunion on one of these cruises...hmmm!

Hey, Steph! That would definitely be wonderful! :thumbsup2 Do you know which cruise you and Taylor would be considering taking? We don't really want to repeat the Med cruise. As fabulous as it was, we'd like to try something different. The Baltic cruise is sounding nice!

Definitely needed to subscribe to this one! We were thinking of doing another Disney cruise summer 2010. We went on the Med Cruise with Disney summer 2007 (Hi, Patricia!) and it was AWESOME!! Can't wait to hear more info about the 2010 cruises! :dance3:

Hey Lauren! How are you? How is your new job? I'm not sure if we'll be doing one of these or not. Right now I'm thinking that we won't since the transatlantics will occur while my kids are in school (which is what I really wanted to do). If we do one, it would be one of the June Baltics. Say hello to your parents and sisters.

Think we will probably do a June cruise like the Med one and it would be great to meet some of the MedHeads again.

Think Disney should do DVC member cruise while they are here but make it a good long one not just a couple of days.

We live close to Florida, so we have never had to fly to the Disney Cruise. Obviously, this won't be the case for Med/Baltic cruises.

Is it generally better to purchase the cruise with or without airfare? I am wondering if we can get a better deal on airfare by booking it ourselves. And, if you book airfare with the cruise, do you get to select the flights or are they given to you?

Thanks!
:)

Cheaper to do it on your own but easier to let Disney do it.

You can pay $50/pp to pick your flights or fly on a different day. Otherwise - you get whatever the cruise line books. I would never fly to the port the same day the cruise departs, and that goes double for an overseas flight.

I second that. There were a couple of ladies on our Med trip who booked through Disney and missed the ship due to the times being too tight. Booking your own airfare is easy, and you can shop around for good rates. Guess I would rather be the one to pick my flights - don't like the idea of someone else making those decisions for me.

:scared: :scared:

I thought they held the ship for those who booked air through DCL?

I believe the ship can be held for only so long. I don't know the exact time. I would also believe if you book through Disney, and the ship leaves without you, Disney will arrange/take care of your fare for you to get to the next port. Does anyone know that for sure?

Can't wait for the 7th and a confirmation that the Baltic Sea is in my DCL future!!! :cool1:

Yes, Disney took care of getting the ladies to the next port.

Steph, do you remember the details? It was Aunt Sue and someone else - can't remember the other person.

Even if DCL makes arrangements to get you to the first port - who wants to miss the boat?! Most flights to Europe are overnight, and if you cruise the day you arrive, you will be exhausted.

We need two days to adjust to the time difference. The 1st day we are sleep-walking and the 2nd day we sleep late to make up the difference so we miss half a day.

I agree. It is worth the extra $$ to arrive at port a day early and grab a room. Also like PPs have said...you can probably find better deals to arrange your own fairs. maybe even enough to equal a night or to at port.

1. your flight and/or connecting flight can have delays
2. you can use the extra day to acclimate to the time difference
3. if you are not tired, see some sights.
4. your luggage may not make it, and you will have a chance to pick up a few essentials until your luggage catches up with you

if you have Disney arrange your airfare, can you request to come in a day early? will they have a port hotel they can arrange for you? or does Disney get you there when they can get you there?

I can't wait... I've even been looking at airfare. We'll definitely be arriving earlier to take advantage of the time change. However, when we go home we are going straight home instead of spending one more night like we did on the Med. cruise. My kids fell asleep on our bus tour of Barcelona. They were just WIPED out. So, going home I figured they could be WIPED out on the plane.

Hey, Jodie! Didn't see you on this thread...we've got tons of MedHeads here! :thumbsup2 We're thinking a June Baltic as well. I am so excited at even the thought of getting to go on another Disney cruise!! Teaching is going really well-I have second and third graders this year. :goodvibes We were out all last week due to the hurricane and power outages here in Kentucky, but things are starting to calm down. Hope all is well with you guys!

That would be neat for you guys to get to experience the member cruise a little closer to home! Good to see you too, Brenda!

I totally agree with this. When we arrived in Barcelona last time, it was HARD to stay awake that whole day. Then, the next day I think we slept until 10 or 11, which is something we never do!! I am not looking forward to that overnight flight and time change again. :scared:

Very good point! I almost forgot that one of our bags didn't arrive in Barcelona when we did. I seem to remember getting it the next day though. Thank goodness we weren't cruising out on the day of arrival - don't know if our bag would have ever found us!

I remember all of us running downstairs to a very late breakfast. And I remember that your mom couldn't sleep and went to McD's in the middle of the night or something crazy like that??

If Steph, Patricia and your family go on the same cruise, I just might be persuaded. My 11 year old still talks about "the girl on the cruise who put spoons on her nose."

So, Andrew's projected June sail dates are June 12 and June 24. Which one do you guys think you would book? If I had to pick, we would probably book the 24th so that we'd have some time to spend in London beforehand (or wherever the heck the ship is sailing from).
