2010 news from the Magic

I don't think the costs will be that much of an issue. Remember DCL didn't even market the Med cruises (most folks didn't even know about them until after they occured!) By announcing the itineraries earlier this time, they will have more time to spread the word.

And if bookings are slow, all they'd need to do to fill the ships would be to offer a military "discount" for a $50 onboard credit per cabin they'd get free advertising through military channels. There are thousands of military families who are already living overseas who'd jump on these sailings.

I'm not saying that Europeans won't be interested (because they will) just that the military route is a way to get the advertising for free.

Yes you are very correct DCL, doesn't really advertise any of its cruises and the Med cruises sold generally by word of mouth.

Here in Europe they could if they wish have a link up with a travel agent, Thomas Cook or Virgin cruises, but so far they haven't, or they could link up with Disneyland Paris, or advertise with WDW on the Disney.co.uk website.

They have never ever marketed DCL cruises in the UK as far as I know, but a loyal following has enjoyed the cruises and the Med cruises had A lot of Europeans on them.

Now if they didn't sell as well, ( unlikely) they could cross sell as above quite easily. I am sure the office in Hammersmith London could facilitate this.

Remember the main offers were only on the transatlantic repos, they are less popular to us as we still need to have one way airfare and often thats nearly the price of a return. The Med trips themselves sold well and only had the odd Cat 12 discount, far less than Summer Caribbean DCL trips discount.

Lastly we do have a lot of TV advertising here for WDW as Disney knows the UK market important to them in Florida and we have special 14 and 21 unlimited Disney tickets here, they just need to get there act together on marketing to those people.

I've been out of town for the last 10 days so if someone can update me on what's going on I would appreciate it. Thanks!

The preview for 2010 cruises is expected to be out on October 7th, though there are reports of a press event in the afternoon on the 6th,

Its expected that the MAGIC will go to the Baltic for 4 12 night cruises in June and July 2010 with two transatlantics to and from USA.

The rest of the year the Magic will do its normal 7 night trips January to May and September to December and the Wonder will do 3/4 nights as usual.

The cruises are said to go on sale on October 21st but some reports say October 14th.

Thanks Andrew! Sounds like I didn't miss anything.

While in WDW I was told that the Magic would not be going to St Petersburg, that it was a political decision. I sure hope they are wrong!

Think I will pay a visit to our travel agent and get a few brochures in so I can compare prices when they are released.

I've been scanning some of the other major cruiselines websites to see what their 2009 Baltic prices are. Of course, I expect Disney to be priced higher but I feel it gives a somewhat realistic expectation of what a Baltic itinerary costs.

Oh no! If that's true, that would be a deal breaker for me. That's one of the ports, I'm most looking forward to visiting.

Could I ask what were your findings pp?

Thanks

It seems to me that if other cruise ships go to Russia in spite of the politics that Disney could too.

DISNEY CRUISE LINE

Cruisin’ to the Baltics?
Rumour has it that Disney Cruise Line plan to sail to the Baltics in 2010. Strengthened by the appearance of the Disney Magic’s name being listed on the Copenhagen port schedule for June 2010 (later removed after being made public). Along with Copenhagen, Oslo has also been touted as a possible port of call.
So where else might the ship stop off at? Other cruise lines’ ports of call include St. Petersburg in Russia, Gothenburg & Stockholm in Sweden, and Helsinki in Finland.
2010 itineraries are said to be released on October 7, so watch this space!

Is that per person? I looked at Princess and RC as well. For a similar cruise, for a family of 4, a balcony stateroom seems to be running around 9-10K - looks fairly similar to what you have above. When I priced the Med trip a couple years ago, the similar trip on RCCL (with 1 extra night) was approximately $3,000 less (balcony stateroom for 4). So, based on that, I'm guessing I would need to add 2 or 3K to the current Princess/RCCL pricing.

It also seems that balcony stateroom pricing on RCCL tends to equate (loosely) with category 9 pricing on Disney. For us, I'd rather lose the balcony to be on the Disney ship. So, my conclusion (after all that rambling), is that a family of 4 will be able to sail in category 9 for approximately 10K (no isurance or transportation). Guess we'll see how close I am!!!

Dude, you're famous!!:worship:
or would that be infamous? :lmao:

I don't believe for a minute that any cruise line would do the Baltics and not do St Petersburg! Disney is about business, not politics.
