2010 news from the Magic

My way of thinking is that if people don't like the 2010 itineraries then they don't have to go.

Yes but some people were waiting for 2010 to celebrate special ocasions. That is when My husband and I were planning on takeing one of the 7 day carribean cruises for our graduation from college. We are a little bummed about the possibility of Alaska or England as I read on.. in this post. those will more than likly be to expensive not to mention you will have to fly to the port for either of those which does not work for us as we dont fly we can drive to Port canaveral in about 13 hours. Why does disney keep takeing the ships away. I had my husband talked into going a couple of years ago and the ship went to california. and yes we could just do a 4 day on the wonder but we want 7 days on the cruise!

Maybe you could take your celebratory cruise early - spring break perhaps. Your rates would be lower than summer time + you don't have to worry about hurricanes. Either that or wait until the Fall when the ship comes back.

Or another option would be to do a "double dipper" - a 3 and a 4 night back to back on the Wonder.

We were also disappointed that they took the Magic back to the West Coast again this summer as that was the itinerary we did back in '05 and we wanted better weather but we wanted to cruise again in '08. This was precisely why we ended up booking back-to-backs on the Wonder for this past summer - so we could enjoy 7 nights on the ship. While it was a great trip and we got to meet our new DIS friends it was not the same as being on the Magic for a week... The Wonder is just well, different. More casual. Especially that 3 nighter. We probably won't do that again. But anyway, the way I am looking at not being interested in the Baltic itineraries is that it will make waiting on the new ships easier!! We will just keep moving our ressie that we booked onboard forward until they offer an itinerary we're interested in.:goodvibes Hopefully it will be on one of the new ships! In the meantime, we save & save & save!:rotfl:

If this was posted already I apologize (I did not read this entire thread) but I just read on the Rumors Board (I know "rumors" ) but someone posted that a press release has been set for October 6th to announce the new DCL destinations!!!

Hope it is true but that would conflict with what we heard about 10/7/08 so who knows!!!

I couldn't agree with you more! I was starting to feel like we were the only family that was disappointed about the possible Baltic itineraries. We had planned on a DCL cruise for 2008, but California was out for us, so we thought we would just go in 2010. With a family of five, we need to be able to drive to Port Canaveral, in order to pay for the two connecting cabins. It certainly looks like we'll be looking at a different cruise line . . . again.

So sorry to hear you are disappointed with the thought that the Magic may be coming to Europe in 2010 but we also have to fly when we want to cruise Disney and even when it came over here in 2007 we still could not drive to our cruise had to fly to Barcelona. Just hoping this time we will get the chance to load the car up and just drive straight to the terminal, wherever that may be.

Hey - the Magic will be in the Caribbean in 2009.

How about 2009 though??? To your point, I think this is why Disney is keeping the ship in Port Canaveral in 2009 - to give people a chance to cruise the Caribbean instead of going elsewhere if their budgets don't allow for it. Also, if your schedule allows for it, check the Thanksgiving week pricing. I have found that these prices are fairly reasonable for a holiday time (quite a bit less than Christmas and summer). We are taking the 2009 Eastern, and our fare was relatively reasonable.

What we are considering in order to save money on the 2010 trip is to book 1 way flights over to Europe and then take the Transatlantic home. We are hoping they offer the category 12 fare which can be a huge cost savings. There are rumors that the transatlantic will have some nice stops (Bermuda?), so I'm looking forward to seeing the details. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the dates will work for us and that the prices aren't sky high!

Good luck with your planning!!

Bren and Steph,

Have either of you heard from Patricia (purtypat1)? I figured she would be all over this trip. I PM'd her but haven't heard back???

We are looking forward to the possible Baltic itinerary. We are a family of 5 and usually book suites. We have a suite request in for 2010 but I have a feeling it will be way more than I want to spend on a port intensive cruise. Because our girls will be older (14, 9 & 7 in 2010), I'm considering a Cat. 6 with a Cat. 11 across the hall or connecting Cat. 6s to save some $$. DH insists on at least one verandah.

I'm really anxious to see the itinerary and the rates.

Hi,

No have not heard a word from Patricia - hope all is o.k. with her.
Bren

Do you really think that 2 connecting category 6s will be cheaper than one category 3? That would be a great option for us then (DDs will be 14 and 12 and I wasn't looking forward to squeezing into one room).

Hi I am here, Bren Jodi or Steph, where is the Magic going & when? Is it just a rumor or is it a get go to Europe, Alaska? Please fill me in so I don't have to read all of the pages.

Thanks for thinking of me, glad I was missed ;)

Of course you were missed - would be good to meet up with everyone again.
Rumour is so far that it is to be the Baltic in 2010.

If it is 2010 Baltic or Med were you all thinking of about the same time as the MedHead cruise if available?

I'm guessing so, but you should double check. I've compared the rate for 5 people in 2 connecting category 9's versus 1 category 4 room, and its always cheaper for the cat 9's - even though you end up paying the adult fare for the first 2 people in each room.

Steph actually found the Disney Magic listed on the Copenhagen port website, so its definitely more than a rumor at this point. Several dates in June and July were listed. Based on those dates, it appears that there will be several 12 night Northern Europe cruises. Then there is a big gap before mid-August when we speculate the ship will come home. Nobody is quite sure what this gap means - a "special" cruise maybe?

If the August transatlantic dates work for us, then I think we'll try to save some money on airfare and fly one way over, then take the transatlantic home. There is a rumor that the TA will stop in Bermuda. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to see what the pricing looks like for a mid-June trip - same timeframe as our Med trip.

It would be fun if we were all on the same cruise again.

Yes, I know that DCL is in the Caribbean in 2009, but we aren't cruising that Summer. My MIL is desperate to have a "family reunion" type (land) vacation with all of her children, their spouses and the grandchildren, and we are planning on honoring her request for Summer 2009. (And there isn't any way to fit two vacations in during 2009.) So, that leaves us with Summer 2010 as the next time to cruise.

I have to admit that a Transatlantic that stops in Bermuda would be tempting, so I hope that works out for you. My DH and I were just in Bermuda about a month ago for a delayed 10-year anniversary trip. It is a beautiful island, and so easy to get around on their buses and ferries.

I'm thinking it will be less expensive. Two Cat. 6s (family of 5) usually comes close to the price of one Cat. 4. Also, if transferring an on board booking the 10% discount will apply, something we can't get with suites.
