2010 news from the Magic

Aer Lingus has great one way fares (the best of which is to Dublin - direct), I checked one way fares from Dublin to Barcelona just to get an idea. They are dirt cheap - some as low as $65 per person. Being in the States, I'm just not used to airfares that are that cheap. Maybe its not unusual for traveling around Europe though?? Anyway, I'm thinking that a direct flight to Dublin would be nice - then spend a week driving around Ireland - then hop a direct cheap flight to Barcelona and sail home!

Sounds wonderful! We've done the drive around Ireland twice and loved it!

The only concern with Aer Lingus or Ryanair or any of the other discounted carriers is the hidden charges........

How much luggage? 10kg? 5kg? Not a lot!

Additional charges for baggage over the (tiny) weight limit? Usually very steep!

Additional charges for selecting a seat?

Additional charges for bringing a carryon bag?

Before booking anything, get out that magnifying glass and read all of the fine print. That cheap fare can end up more expensive than you think!

Thanks for the advice. I have noticed where some airlines have started charging for selecting a seat. Crazy! The one way savings on AerLingus are enormous for a family of 4. I think I would be willing to incur a few fees here and there, but I'll definitely check it out.

It does seem strange to start planning for 2010. But, that is the only way to get a really good price and the stateroom you really want. This summer we went on the Med cruise, we decided to go a week to Hawaii, and then to Cancun. I felt like we vacationed all summer. But, it was so much fun and I got a really good tan.

Hawaii AND Cancun!! You rat!! Ha - only kidding! I remember talking you into switching to the category 12 room. Which type of room did you give up, and what type of room did you end up with? Were you happy with it? Curious!

Use the book with miles option and it will give you a calendar view option.

Thanks for the reply! But I'm wondering if the UK and US versions of the website are a little different, because when I use the "book with miles" it only gives me a calendar when I'm choosing a date and that calendar doesn't tell me when I can or can't use miles, it just tells me what days are open for any booking. I'll keep playing with it . . . I just want to be sure it will be worth accumulating miles for over the next year and a half before I open up an AmEx card account. ;) Adding another $5000 to $7500 :scared1: to this cruise for airfare is going to be a killer! :scared: :faint: :goodvibes

Whoa! Thats insane? How many of you are there? Did you check the AerLingus rates? Someone posted earlier that there might be some hidden fees with them, but it still may save you a bundle?

It is insane! But there are 5 of us and I'm guessing it will at least be around $1000/each to fly in June or July. Hopefully it will be better than that, but I've got to prepare for the worst. ;) Racking up frequent flier miles on one of the airlines could certainly help (and we've got time this far out), so that's what I'm trying to figure out right now. :goodvibes

Good luck! If you find out about any great deals, please let us know!

Question?

Mouse savers states that the Magic is departing for Warnemunde. Where did they get that info from? I must have missed something along the way.

Mousesavers states......

"Disney has not yet officially announced any special itineraries for 2010.

However, I believe the Magic will cruise to Northern Europe and the Baltic in June and July 2010, on a 12-night itinerary. The port schedule for Copenhagen, Denmark shows the Magic will be in port on June 15, June 27, July 9 and July 21. It also shows the ship will be arriving from Oslo and departing for Warnemunde (port closest to Berlin).

Cruises to Alaska in summer 2010 were previously rumored, based on the fact that Disney has requested a permit to visit Glacier Bay from 2010-2019. However, Glacier Bay permits are granted only once every 10 years. Getting a permit now is the only way Disney can cruise to that area of Alaska during the entire period (2010-2019). If it is granted the permit, Disney can release any years it does not intend to use. I believe it is more likely that Disney would begin cruising to Alaska once its new ships come online in 2011 and 2012."

Before the Magic was removed from Copenhagen's port's website, you could click on it and it showed what port the Magic was coming from and which port it was going to.

Just remember that with many of the frequent flier plans your need to book as soon as the booking window opens up, so you may only have 10 months to rack up the points.

THIS IS WHAT THEY SAY
2010 Special Disney Cruise Line Itineraries

Disney has not yet officially announced any special itineraries for 2010.

Rumor has it that these special itinerary cruises will go on sale in
mid-October. If you want to book a 2010 Disney cruise for a special itinerary,
popular time period or secret porthole stateroom, I recommend that you contact

I think they have been reading this thread! Any way it doesn't say the home port, but it will be calling at Warnemunde, its not the best English, but they base everything on the port schedule we have seen for Copenhagen, so they say arriving from these ports, then departing for Germany.

This is the second post they have made on their newsletter and slightly less confusing then their first.

Using this information, what would the projected date be for the return repo at the end of the summer? It seems that I may have read something regarding those dates earlier in this thread but I have no idea where at in the thread.

Any one?

Well whilst the Baltic crusies end mid July, I am going to stick my head out ( unusual for me isnt it?) and say mid August will be the return REPO, as I feel there will be something else inbetween!!!

Saturday August 14th, or around that date! Is my bet! ( IE if the do a 15 night repo, it would be Firday 13th!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmm......now you have peaked my curiosity. Last Baltic cruise around mid July and then approximately 14 days for something else before the repo back home? What could that possibly be?????????????:confused3

Sigh, is it October 7th yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? :rotfl:

Thats the 'phantom' cruise I want to book!!!

I am actually glad we have the announcement a week to two weeks before booking opens - I may JUST squeeze on to the last Baltic if I have done my sums right as Essex schools officially finish on Thursday 22nd July but DH's school usually have extra evening professional development training so they can use their quota of training days at the end of the summer term and have it as time off in lieu of the twilight training sessions. So if I am lucky and the last Baltic cruise departs on or after Saturday 17th then we may make it onboard. If not then this "Phantom Cruise" may be our next option!
