2010 news from the Magic

I'm getting $975 +tax for each leg from Philly to Heathrow on British Airways website. This was whether it's booked as one way or RT. Def. not cheaper to book RT.
Kayak showed BA to be cheapest from PHL and also added benefit of having non-stop. :goodvibes

I found $933 (incl tax) the other day out of Dulles - roundtrip. I think the carrier was BMI (??never heard of them), but when I looked at the flight detail, the flight was actually a United flight. Not sure what thats all about.

Since you are in the Philly area, you could also look at NY and Washington DC airports.

My guess would be August 14th to get back on the 28th, DCL seem to be set on getting back before September each time, Labor day being the latest they consider.

Now with the Magic not showing in the Baltic from Mid July, I guess its doing something else as well, the Term 'Northern Europe' can cover many thnigs.

Is it possible they could be doing a shorter sailing season? Less cruises means greater demand and higher prices.;)

The last date in Copenhagen is July 21. If that is day #4 of a 13-day cruise -then it would end in the UK on July 30.

That's what I'm thinking since the 1st date in Copenhagen is June 15th.

DCL make the majority of the money on these cruises on the actual cruises at the destination the REPO's make less money, so to recoup the money nd costs of the new destination they tend to keep to the same length of time away.

So far every special has started second week of May and it comes back mid August, now they ''could' change that, I personally if I was putting a bet on it would still to the same normal timescales as DCL tend to follow a pattern.

:thumbsup2 Time for a quickie down the Western Europe coast!
My ta said they could be doing one way cruises.

Thats what I have herd and have been posting for a few months a series of linked specials that you could do back to back, for example if Southampton is home port you can go up to the Baltic but also down the Western Europe coast to Portugal and Spain and Gibraltar.

A lot of cruise lines do this to tap into the back to back market and make each cruise more special.

You can do different roundtrip cruises from a UK port. However, it appears that the Magic visits Copenhagen every 12 days for 4 cruises, so that would seem to indicate that the Baltic cruises are in the middle, and that they are roundtrip. If the first visit to Copenhagen is June 15, and that's day 4 of the cruise (by my estimate: UK port, sea day, Oslo, Copenhagen) - then there must be another cruise (either one-way or roundtrip) before the first Baltic cruise on June 12.

If the Magic leaves PC around the 8th of May and takes 2 weeks as before to get to Europe then there is a long time until June 15th. Oct 7th can't come soon enough!

Since the eastbound Transatlantic sailing in 2007 was not full and was deeply discounted - maybe DCL will keep the Magic in PC 2 weeks longer in hopes of getting more people to book the EB Transatlantic.

I agree on the 4 x 12 day cruises.

There are 'possibilities' here and on there usual timescale there are 'gaps' I presume they decided what was 'peak' time to visit the Baltic, IE for the best weather etc, June sounds sensible, the better weather before and after that will be further South.

I have herd 'a series of linked cruises' etc, I have herd Bermuda mentioned, so there could be something to fill in the gaps, I hope so as I want to cruise in Europe late July early August but not a repo.

By my reckoning, June 12th would be the first Baltic sailing date.

Wouldn't that raise a few eyebrows? esp. with international flights?

Booking a round trip and only using one-way is called "Throw Away Ticketing" and specifically not allowed by all major airlines. They can end up charging you for what the one-way flight would have cost.

Example from Delta Airlines website:

Delta specifically prohibits the practices commonly known as:
Throwaway Ticketing - The issuance, purchase or usage of round excursion fares for
one way travel.

I know I am most likely wrong, but what if DCL is just using the Magic as a slot holder for some type of sea and port testing for the first new ship. This hit me after I found out from Denmark they go to Germany. Combine that with the fact it seems like there is no sort of a constant schedual, got me thinking. Honestly I hope I am very wrong about this as I really want to take this if it comes true.

Well that is interesting. I would never have thought of that.

I was thinking something along those lines. DCL knows that DISers have figured things out in the past. What if they scheduled it this way for the sea and port testing and Alaska is really what they are looking at (permit for Glacier Bay that was filed). Maybe they are trying to confuse us :lmao: It seems to be working.
