2010 news from the Magic

Been looking at some other similar itineraries. Here's one that the Celebrity Constellation did in 2007 (the current version uses a slightly modified itinerary). It was 14 nights, but could easily become a 12-night cruise, if you cut a port or sea day:

Dover (now it looks like they use Harwich as their port for Scandinavia)
Oslo
Copenhagen
Warnemunde (Berlin)
Tallinn, Estonia
St. Petersburg
Helsinki
Stockholm

I studied Russian in high school and college, but I've never been able to visit Russia. I think I'm gonna cry if we get the chance to visit St. Petersburg! :woohoo:

I think Tallinn, Estonia isnt included, and from your signature it got me counting and I am two days behind you as 54 days on the Magic so far and 61 in August 09.

We will know by October 7th when the official release is out.

So would you plan for the EB Repo and the first N Europe cruise Gydell?
That's the plan right now but could change depending on what's happening between May 22 amd the beginning of June with the Magic.:confused3
Allright Gydell, I am doing the transatlantic and the first special itinerary. Let's plan to be tablemates!! LOL. Marilyn, are you with us?
Sounds great! I have already called my ta and given him all the info so I am hopefully towards the 1st of the list.

It is the one way Transatlantic airfares that are the pain.:scared1:

We fly free!

OK so I am excited that DCL is in Northern Europe but also about to cry too. DH teaches and in 2010 school ends on Thursday 22nd July - AFTER the last port date shown for Oslo...

I know he would say yes to a Baltic itinerary but I am not sure what else would be on offer - surely they wouldn't repo back to US as early as end of July??

Anyone got any ideas... Andrew you got any thoughts?

I don't know if I can take my oldest out of school in May....:confused3

Do the 1st med one - if like rumored it has 4-5 sea days the kids would be fine. We didn't do the Med one because there wasn't enough down time for dgs.

I understand as at July over 50 families were wait-listed for Summer 2010, on Suites. TA's have for some time known the release date and an idea of something happening for this one.

No, that is a problem as they get older.

Can we contact our TA's before the cruises are announced?

Ah, I forgot you fly free!! That is great.

You fly free? Can I fly with you? LOL. I have two holding reservations with Dreams with the 10 percent discount for onboard booking. I will email my TA as soon as we have additional info. She knows I am waiting for the 2010 itinerary.

Yes this is my concern as well, they do seem to leave OSLO quickly well before the end of our school term and before our school holidays.

They well might be out of the Baltic by then.

I think, my guess is there is something else 'in-between' last time in 2007 it was

Transatlantic repo
10/11 Night Med
Then back Transatlantic repo.

I might be wrong but everything has been said in plural, special cruises, so I think

  • Transatlantic repo and / or via Bermuda or New York?
  • Special cruise Med>Southampton? Portugal? Madeira?
  • Baltic cruises.
  • Special cruise Southampton>Med Portugal? Madeira?
Transatlantic back.

Reasons:-

  • Again everythnig said has been plural, cruises
  • They usually leave and come back from PC first week May and back just before USA Labour day holiday.
  • There is fewer Oslo slots than can accomodate this schdule.
  • Oslo is further to go than the Med.
  • Cruisers can buy in bite size chuncks, and add on extra ports.
  • The transatlantics didnt sell well last time there was some discounting, so they need to 'beef' these up
.

So we might not get a Baltic at Summer holidays but a specail cruise to the Med?? I think they will return from Europe Mid August.

Do we think they will still do a med cruise before heading north? I am on the waitlist for a suite, but now can't remember what I time frame I put. I got the post-card confirming that they received my request...gee, wish I could remember. I'm afraid the suites will be way too high for these special cruises. Does anyone know how much the cat. 1 or 2 was last time? I assume if these cruises are a day or so longer, they will be even more...

I do not think there will be any 'MED' cruises as we saw in 2007, but we might see something going up the Western Europe coast,

Cat 3 is often 30% more than Cat 4, my Cat 4 in the Med for an 11 night in 2007 was $11.5k for family of 4.

Pro rata they are far more expensive than 7 night Carribean trips they havem ore ports of call, therefore more port costs and taxes for example and as they are special and in short supply the price goes up.

Do you think there is a possibility they would do 'quick' transatlantic crossings? Cunard just do the 6 day sailings(I know DCL would do Castaway Cay though).

Isnt Cunard to New York?

With fuel costs and Castaway Cay I cannot see anythnig less, but they did arrive and depart Barcelona with an extra overnight stay in port in 2007,

DW and I were excited when we first heard rumbings of a Baltic sailing. Now that you guys have uncovered more evidence that it's pretty likely, we're even more excited! Which starting port do you think the cruises will sail from? And what would be the nearest airport to that port? Just looking at next year's airfare as an estimate, realizing that a lot can change in a year.

Thanks for all the detective work!

Our cat.2 was $14K, I think, for a 10-day Med. We didn't end up going so I don't have the paperwork to look up.

Not sure how a "Baltic" cruise will go over with the family... but I've had a fax request in for 2 1/2 years so if I get a call, we can decide then.

Mike I think its Sothampton, but Harwich also is the UK, is another possibility both within easy reach of London and its three -four major airports.

Southampton- London Gatwick or Heathrow.
Harwich, -Stanstead/ Luton/ Heathrow.

Yeah, Estonia could be what gets cut. And the current Constellation itineraries are different. I was looking for cruises that used an Oslo/Copenhagen/Warnemunde route and found this older one from 2007.

It'll be interesting to see if they go with St. Petersburg and, if so, whether or not they'll make it two days. I hope they keep at least 3 sea days, maybe more. The Med was great, but it was very tiring.

We'll be at 63 nights in May '09. No cruises on the Wonder yet. We'll probably wait until she gets moved to a new location. Not interested in 3/4-night cruises or longer ones in hurricane season. We had a 7-night scheduled for December this year, but had to cancel it :(
