2010 DVC Annual Meeting Report

It would be a violation of FL timshare regualtions to give a minority of members an advantage over the majority since for changes after the initial POS must be done in the best interset of the majority of memebers (not points). unless they set the bar so low that a majority got the "advantage". If they want to do this for a new resort then that would be OK for the home resort priority, but not for the 7 month window.

We all know if this is done it is as a sales tool for DVD.

Priority reservation windows is what concerns me. I count on the 11 month window to get the boardwalk view at BWV. If others can make reservations earlier, I may not get it.

We always book bw view!! This is the only resort that I really care about a particular view! I don't even want to think about not getting my beloved view....:sad2:

A friend is looking at DVC and I recommended he look at getting points split into smaller contracts in case he needed to sell. I also told him smaller contracts tend to sell easier and for a higher per point price.

Now with the tiered system possibly coming, I told him he may not be better off with smaller contracts. Since the tiered system was publicly mentioned by JL, it leaves us in limbo until they announce the details of the system or they publicly announce they have cancelled that decision.

:confused3

It's bad business to tell your customers publicly that a change is coming, but leave your customers guessing.

As for BLT issues, their manager was not available for comment. Hmmmmm:)

Had another MGR read blt improvements, supposedly on vacay.

ugh... what's that all about... avoiding the unavoidable.
Chicken...

This might be a "darned if you do" and "darned if you don't" situation. If Disney had denied a change was in the works but then introduced such a change within the next 90 days, Members would be ripping Disney, and Mr. Lewis specifically, for lying at the Annual Meeting. If Disney mentioned specifics about the program before it has been finalized, then Members would be upset if those specific features aren't part of the final program. For example, if Mr. Lewis mentioned they are looking into offering free FreePasses to Members that have 500 points, but then the final program required 750 points, Members would be screaming that Disney misled them on purpose.

I certainly don't have a clue what a tiered benefit program would look like. But I know its way too early to get upset about something I don't know anything about.

Just a few months ago some disboard members were upset about the proposed changes to the reservation system and the use of a single confirmation number to cover split stays. They were worried that the changes would force them to have a Dining Plan for both segments of a split stay when they wanted it for only one segment. Once the change was implemented, we are able to book a dining plan for specific days without having to do a split stay. We actually got even a better deal because of this change.

Unless they have no idea how they are going to present this and as Diane stated, waiting for all of us to make suggestions Pro or Con. :lmao:

And with 1600 points or more, does that member really use all of them himself or does he rent them out? That could mean a renter would have a headstart over a member to get one of those prized locations. I know some members with tons of points do use them, but I'd like to bet that a lot will rent them out (remember before they nailed down the one transfer in or out a year).

I really don't think Disney will do this.I don't think they would give priority booking to folks with more points. It wouldn't't be fair (Un-disney like) The majority of DVC folks probably have from 150 to 250 pts
I also think they will continue to keep the 11 / 7 month window. It is what makes DVC unique.:cloud9: Just my thoughts on the subject..

There is nothing Disney-like about Jim Lewis. He is about un-Disney as you can get.

Maybe tiered could be more perks for everyone. Like free passes for 1000pts, half off for 500 pts, 25 percent off for 250 pts, etc.

Maybe Dvc has heard enough complaints about free dining that they have decided to give a larger percent off or free dining plan for certain point levels.

Maybe free waterpark passes.

Anything they give will not cost anything. So no discounts on dining. No free passes.

All cost money and not gonna happen. I believe any perks like that will be based on the number of referrals a member makes. JL is not about perks if they cost money.

Discounts generally are offered by the stores giving the discounts. Now, it is possible DVC may negotiate special discounts for high point tier owners, or a free TiW card. That actual cost owuld be pretty minimal. I don't see them offering "free" perks, like "free passes" or "free dining" unless it is for a limited, specified time period, like the original free pass purchase incentive.

:confused3What perk or teir item would cause you guys to buy more points (or at least want to)?:confused3

For our family, I can't think of anything DVC could offer that would offset the high price of points. And in Michigan, we're not allowed to reap any kind of "physical" benefit from referrals (cash or gifts).

If DVC implements something that effectively penalizes those who don't have an extravagant amount of points (i.e. changing booking windows), I think we'd seriously rethink the idea of continued membership.

I personally would not purchase for perks or benefits. I reached DCL gold before they announced the tiered system because I liked DCLl and thought it a good value. Being gold is nice but not why to continue cruise DCL

DVC is a good fit for us. Perks are nice but we enjoy the villas and our holidays. I don't see a tiered system as a fundamental change unless they change booking windows.

I also don't want to be a salesguide for DVC or have that provision tied to my membership

If tiered benefits are limited to points purchased through Disney, not resale, then I'll bet that there will be a very small number of DISers benefiting. We have 1150 points but only 320 or 370 (I can't remember) were purchased direct. I'm thinking that the majority of DISers with 1000+ points have purchased at least some of the points via resale. I am not going to get my undies in a bunch about this, no matter what the details are.

I don't want any special perks with my DVC. That's good because I only have 200 points! If they start having special rules for the "special people" that have a ton of points or lots of referrals I will seriously have to think about selling my measly 200 points. If anyone wants them! I'll go back to staying at the deluxe resorts without the hastle of DVC and its rules and regulations.

Well said, :thumbsup2

As Deb said, won't happen. This will be about things DVC can do and give that will not involve any money or negotiations with other Disney departments such as tickets or dining. DVC does not own them.

Ok I know at this stage this is all what if, but if you have 1150 points and someone that purchased 500 from DVC direct is able to get priority bookings, advance bookings for difficult time periods or CL, or get first dips on room requests, that won't bother you.
