*** 2010-2011 *** Cheer Parent Thread

They look great! Definitely like close friends.

You've inspired me to start some more "team building" and "parent team building" activities at the gym this year. Thank you!

Try-outs are Sat. so on Sun. we'll be checking the website to see initial placements. (They will re-evaluate around the 4th of July.)

Hi everyone! :) My dd is 9 and this will be her 3rd year as an all star. She was a flyer on jr. 2 and sr. 3 this year. She just got her roundoff back handspring tuck two weeks ago - and tryouts are this week. EEEK. I am really, really nervous for her. Just hoping it goes well.

Sorry your Worlds weren't as expected. Were your teams by chance in Hall A? Someone on the fierceboard posted that one of the judges assigning deductions in Hall A was seen drunk at 3am the night before he judged their team at 8am. And he gave them a deduction for something that was not illegal. Then he was rude and put his hand in her face telling her he was done with her. She was not upset about not winning but about receiving this deduction for something that was legal - and she later watched the tapes over and over again to make sure. She said she would have had first without this deduction but also many of their other teams won. She was just concerned about judges getting drunk the night before a competition.
Good luck with your DD13 trying out for school. That should at least save you some money! Haha!
We have tryouts on Saturday. We're hoping for a big turnout so we can have more than three teams next year.

WOW...we WERE in Hall A! That sucks. We also found out that the team that beat our youth team didn't even qualify for the bid. Crazy!

As far as HS cheer being cheaper...I doubt it. :rotfl: I already will have to pay $250 for a 3 day camp vs the $175 5 day tumble camp at the gym.:confused3 But just like I supported her with Allstar I'll support HS. What else are moms for. :goodvibes

Congrats on her tumbling! DD9 is still working on her's. She has it but only for the first 2 or 3...by the 4th one she's falling. She's taking 2 weeks of tumble camp and tumble class weekly so I'm sure by the end of summer she'll have it with no issues. :goodvibes

At cheer clinic last night my DD won best heel stretch. The coach held a small contest to see who was the best at the technical things. She could hold it up there the longest and she was solid as a rock. One girl was so cute and hopping all over the place and the girl called it was a tie. It really does boost up their confidence to do what they love.

The coach came up to me and said my DD is definately a cheerleader. She's already registered for cheer camp at the end of August. I'm still learning as we go. I have no idea what's around the corner.

My DD is working on her roundoff back handspring tuck also, but she has a pulled muscle so she has been out for two weeks but hopefully she can get back at it this week.

They cheer at their first game tomorrow and there is another one on Friday. They are so excited and all of the moms are too. I just wish that all of the uniforms were in. Some peices are still not in yet so they will have to wear shorts and a cheer t-shirt. It will still be cute though. :cheer2:

I need some advice. We have a pretty good gym here but DD only likes to work with this one coach who is moving after this year. They other coach does a great job, but she does not like the way he does some things. They use two mats, a think one & then a regular mat. I was thinking about taking her to a new gym out of town that is supposed to be good. My only problem is they use spring mats there, which will help her at first, but once she gets on solid ground again, who knows what it will be like for her. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about this? Will it even matter?

DD9 was put on youth 3 and jr. 2 for next season. She just got her r/o bhsp tuck. DD really does want to do both teams. I'm just not sure. If she is going to double, I would have preferred for her to do two lv 3 teams. I say this because I want her to spend time improving her tuck and maybe even moving on to standing tucks/layouts. If she does the jr. 2, I worry that she'll be investing 6 hours a week in skills she already has - and not gaining anything more. She could use those 6 hours to do tumbling classes or private lessons instead. If she does the Jr. 2 - there will be no extra time for lv3-5 tumbling class or privates. I don't know what to do. :confused3

Teams were announced last night. D's Level 4 team is now a Senior Level 4/Senior Level 5 Open team. Don't know what that means but maybe they can do fulls?

Congrats first off. My DD9 was very close to her r/o bhsp tuck but busted last night and hurt her neck so now she's freaked out about trying again. Needless to say I have to back off and give her space because tumbling is mostly mental.

As for her being able to work on the tuck and layouts, will they incorporate tumble time into the lvl 3 practice at all? If so, I'd say see how that goes first because she may like not having the pressure on lvl 2 and therefore she won't get burnt out. I know my DD's friend is on a lvl 2 and lvl 3 team and she has way more fun on the 2 than she does the 3 simply because that's not as stressful to her. In the end though you have to do what works for your daughter. If she wants and needs the consistency then maybe doing Jr's won't work for her.

Sooooo very very stressful week so far. Both DD9 and DD13 have EOGs this week. To top that, DD9 hurt herself last night and is spooked about tumbling and DD13 also has school cheer tryouts which ends today. This morning DD13 was acting funny so I said what's up? She said I'm nervous. Naturally I'm like oh you'll do fine on your EOGs honey...don't worry. To which she responds, not that mom, tryouts today! LOL! Who would have ever thought that cheer tryouts would take number one nervous spot to EOGS. :rotfl:

Ahhhh well. Tonight she finds out if she made it and tomorrow I find out if DD9 will ever tumble again. EOGs...well won't find out those scores til next week or the week after. :goodvibes

Congratulations to those girls who made team! :cheer2:

Eeyores#1Fan- Sorry your Dd got hurt. They don't say cheerleading is the #1 sport for injuries for nothing. I hope she heals quickly and gets back on the saddle.

As for us, DD7 (almost 8 lol!) is signed up in June and one week in July for beginning tumbling classes. Once she has these mastered, then she can move up to advanced tumbling. I'm guessing it'll take her awhile to master the easy ones since she's just starting.

At home she just practices her splits and stretching every day. Her legs are very flexible, now we have to work on her back and strengthen in arms.

Oh no! I'm sorry that your dd got hurt. I hope she is up and tumbling again soon. I guess in this sport it's very common to have kids become "spooked." My dd broke her finger last fall - and it took a while for her to throw her backhandspring series again.

In answer to your question, there will be tumbling all summer at lv3 practice - but by fall, they will be working the routine - and you know how that is. The only tumbling they do is what is needed for the routine.

YAY! Got good news. DD13 made the JV team at her HS. :cool1::cool1::cool1:

As for DD9...well they went through practice without tumbling so still not sure how she feels about it. She did say that she would cont. to work on it as long as she has a spot so that's something I guess. :)

Tomorrow's Fri!!!! Boy what a week.

Congrats to your daughter :banana::banana:

There is quite some time till the first competition for your younger daughter to regain her confidence. It will happen! :cheer2: Probably before you know it.

We started our new season this year. My daughter is on the special needs team and my niece (my other daughter) decided to do competitive instead of another year of rec. So, we have officially joined the allstar money sink.

Right now the gym is in practice groups. She will have to wait till August to find out what team she is on.

With DN going competitive, that means travel to a second nationals and both of them are getting new uniforms this year. I hope I win Power Ball soon :lmao:

re-evaluations next week during camp.

The kids have been working out in their practice groups for a couple of weeks now. Next week, they have camp and the coaches will be reevaluating them to see if they are still in the right place.

Right now, nobody knows what levels they are practicing on, although you have a general idea.

DNiece is so excited for camp next week and hopes that she moves up a level from where they have her placed now. Since she is coming off Rec, she is pretty sure she is practicing with the level 1 practice group. She has her tuck, so she hopes she moves up, although she knows there is way, way more to team placement other than just tumbling.

We learn actual team placements late July/Early August.

our gym actually takes a break for June and July so we just had our last practice today. My daughter made Senior 4 and they have asked if she will cross over to the 4.2 team and the Junior 2. She would fly for the 4 and 4.2, but base the newer girls on Junior 2. She is tall for her age (only 12), and is a great base in addition to flyer. I haven't decided yet about the crossovers. She is a gym rat and loves to cross. She was on Senior 3, Junior 2 and Senior 1 this past year and it wasn't too bad.

she will continue to tumble until practice resumes in August

Just found out one of my daughters teams came in 3rd in the country for the US Finals. They came in 2nd at VA Beach by .02 and had one stunt bobble and got marked off for not pointing toes in the jumps. The team that came in first was the one who beat them in VA. So close, but Yeah!!! for our tiny gym.

Just to brag about my niece--her Junior 2 team won the virtual Grand Championship in the IALC (International all-level championships) for the 2nd year in a row!! They went up against all the other J2 teams that competed in Atlanta, Atlantic City, Texas, Ohio, and Long Beach in a virtual championship.

I forgot to update after tryouts.

DD15 made JV Capt and DD16 made Varsity for the second year. So it looks like another year of two football games a week and 12 basketball games a week. Hannah would have made Varsity if she tried out for it (the coach told me that her score was high enough), but she specifically tried out for JV because she really wanted Captain. I wish they were on the same squad, but that would be too easy on us, LOL. So all the JV and Varsity football and basketball games and different cheer practice times.
But I am thankful they both got what they wanted. So I'm not going to complain anymore. :cheer2::cheer2:
