2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

Really?! We purchased the military tickets here on base and that is what they told us. I guess I shouldn't be surprised because they also gave us the wrong black out dates.

Sorry, they were wrong. The Military Salute tickets are an exception to the 14-day rule. Regular Magic Your Way tickets DO expire 14 days from first use, but not the Military Salute passes. Now, if you bought regular Disney tickets at your ITT (i.e., NOT the $138 4-day Salute tickets) then they were correct. Just the Military Salute tickets have the exception.

There's a few different tickets for WDW that you can get. One is the Armed Forces Salute, which is a 4-day ticket for $138. That ticket doesn't expire until Sept. 30, 2012.

The other ticket you can purchase is the Magic Your Way ticket, which is the regular Disney ticket. You can purchase up to ten park days on that ticket. After first use, the MYW ticket expires in 14 days, unless you purchase a no-expire option.

I would suggest that you always consult this website, and specifically the ticket sticky at the top of this forum, "Everything About WDW Tickets," by Cheshire Figment. Post #17 discusses the Armed Forces Salute ticket, and CF has kept the info up-to-date, including black-out dates. Post #2 discusses the MYW ticket. There's lots of other great info in his post. And, I would trust CF's info more than any other place where you may get Disney ticket info. He's really on top of things. Here is a link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684

Thank you! I 'll have to call Outdoor Rec again and let them know. We purchased the Salute tickets.

Does anyone remember when WDW announced the extension of this deal last year? Trying to plan a fall trip and was just wondering if there is a possibility of getting a military room/ticket discount. I know nothing is definite, but just curious.

The current extension was announced on 18 April 2011.

I've queried my contact at the Disney Company's Military Sales Dept. and he tells me that while there is no official news yet, he is "pushing for one."

I mentioned to him that many people are trying to plan vacations and deployment break getaways for the last quarter of the year and into January '13.

ok I can't find this, I'm sure it's been answered but help:

June 2011 we used 4 of the special military tickets - the $135 tickets (two parents/two kids)

We want to go back in August 2012 and purchase another 4, is this allowed?
Can we also purchase more for 2 adults 1 child coming with us? for a total of 7 more tickets?

Is there a total number of tickets PERIOD that any one person can buy?

ok, maybe I'm answering my own question

is this accurate? 12 is the total for the promotion but we'd only be able to use /activate/purchase 6 during any week.

Is that still the official info?

Yes, that's the official info. You can only activate 6 at a time by the rules, and one of those 6 has to be for the servicemember.

Have your friends purchase a regular ticket for their child and let the adults use the Military Salute tickets.

Fabulous! It will be my nephew's first Disney trip and I'm not sure if I'm more excited for him or for me (he's 6) I also just noticed that we all have 2 days of WP&M left on our tickets from last june. SCORE.

.

i thought the spouse can activate 5 without the servicemember present

I hope someone can help me out. I have heard conflicting answers as to what the "lifetime of the promotion" is. Shades of Green said that they thought only 12 can be purchased over the 2 years of the promotion. My Mother called Disney Guest Relations, and they said 12 per year, not total. She told them they purchased 6 in 2010 and 6 in 2011, and they told her if she has not purchased any this year then she could this summer for her trip. Does anyone know for sure? She also purchased 5 in 2009. Is Disney counting each year seperate? Thanks so much!

I don't really know what they are considering the promotion period: But it says 12 total for the life of the promotion, definitely not 12 per year:
"
No more than twelve (12) Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased, activated and/or used by any Eligible Service Member or spouse during the life of this promotion, and no Eligible Service Member or spouse may purchase, activate and/or use more than six (6) Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets during any single week of the promotion. One (1) of the Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets purchased on each occasion must be for use by the Eligible Service Member or spouse. This offer is for active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Program started Oct 24, 2010. So tickets in 2009 do not count and some in 2010 might not count either under the old program (which was a totally different pricing and structure) and I think that even though the program was due to end on Sept 30, 2011 that the extension bringing it to 2012 is still considered the same program. Though...I could be wrong about that.

Disney is counting the current promotion as starting in October 2010. Between then and September 2012, you can purchase 12 tickets total. You may need to buy them in two separate groups of six, since it seems you can't activate more than six at a time. What you bought in 2009 doesn't enter into the equation. Of the six tickets you can purchase at a time, one must be used for the military member.

What's not clear is how many tickets must be used for the military member if you purchase 12 tickets. Hopefully if they offer a military ticket next year, they'll keep it just one year to make things easier to understand.

I can't quite understand why they're limiting to only 6 uses at a time since the option is there to buy for friends/family, and to buy 12. I mean how many of us are going to disney as a welcome home family trip with grandparents etc? Given the circumstances it seems very easy that any one extended family would be travelling all at the same time .

I am not arguing about it, I just don't understand the reasoning behind it.

We were 'fortunate' to get to use 3 tickets last May -- DH was called in the middle of our PCS to train in Florida for 3 months so we met for a long weekend at WDW rather than go to the base figuring it would be more fun for us and DD. Now, after a year+ of intense training and trips, we're celebrating with his parents, brother, SIL, DD, and myself but can only buy 6 tickets. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth -- seriously, I'm elated we can get discount tickets since his family have never been and it's a great way to top off a hard year -- but given the nature of the military it seems an odd restriction.

... not to mention the hoops my friend and her DH's blended family of 5 kids had to do -- She bounced between three CMs before they exempted her from the 6 ticket maximum despite having all documentation and forms. In the end, totally worth it for them (he was deployed 16 months) but lots of hassle for no real purpose.

right right, I'm NOT looking a gift horse in the mouth, just curious, I think you got that. :) The military ticket offer is one big reason why our family has been able to go in 09, 11, and this year. It has saved us HUNDREDS of $, maybe even thousands. So it's truly been a win for our family. And I'm sure what we saved in ticket price Disney more than made up for with us being there for more trips than we had original planned. So it's a win for disney too.

I hope they continue the program in the future! It's just amazingly wonderful.

I def think we are on the same page: the grateful but curiously querying . ;)

I agree - we are fortunate to have gone 4 times in the last 3 years due to being stationed in Cali and then East Coast... BUT it's due to the special promotion we are going to WDW this summer.

I do hope they extend the offer but am always grateful for anything to make the Mouse part of our vacations. With such an unpredictable lifestyle it's nice to find comfort in familiarity. :goodvibes

The main reason they don't let you use all 12 at once is because they want you to come back and that's where they are making money

My pref would be if you could have more then four days since every time we have gone its been for 6-7 days
But again they know most will go over the four days and that's where they are making the money
Same reason why you can't activate more then six in one week

Does anyone know if the ability to activate only 6 in a week is a 7 day period, or a calendar week? For example if we purchase and activate 4 on a Saturday, can we purchase and activate more later the next week? For example, purchase another 3 or 4 the next week?
Still trying to figure out if we should bring our pre-MYW tickets to get the last couple days out of them, or if we would likely be able to purchase a couple extra Salute tix.
It seems we would not be able to activate more than 6, which still may work and just purchase a childs tix for a couple days.

Does anyone know approximately when they extended the current promotion last year that goes until the end Sep 2012? We are so hoping they continue with this program, too...as this is the only way we have been able to afford to go. We are hoping to go once again at the beginning of October this year --- so hoping we do NOT get cuaght in limbo as they decide. Any ideas?
