2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

Thank you!
I think purchasing two sets of the military salute tickets, one set having water parks and more option, is a great deal then! TWO trips to Disney, and our second one can be more relaxed and include water parks, etc...

Now I just have to convince the DH....

All tickets are registered under the name of the Service Member. If a Spouse is buying/activating tickets the registration is the Sponsor's name from the DD-1173 but the ticket is in the Spouse's (or other persons) name.

As Cheshire Figment stated, the tickets all read back to the sponsor and they took DH's information as the sponsor and stated that there was a limit for what we could buy and activate that week.

:confused3I just want to make SURE I understand how to use these tickets before I screw up what I need to buy..

A reminder of my situation: I have 3 people that need tickets (my DD will still be 2 on BOTH trips). I need to use my one set of 3 salute tickets (4-day hopper option) for March 2012, plus ONE ticket from my next set of 3 tickets (military salute WPM option)to get my fifth day in March...
Then, we want to return in June and use our remaining three days left on tickets in for a return trip. We will use 2 of our water park days as well, and maybe see Disney Quest or something...

So....can I mix which set I use? For our trip in March, we will not park-hop...so I want to use my set with the WPM option, but not go to the water parks until June? That way our tickets with the PH will be good for us in June, but we would still need to save those first tickets to use our WPM option then...the reason I want to save my hoppers is because in June my DH and I want to get a sitter one afternoon, and go back to the parks alone...and we might want to do HS and MK, or some combination.

Am I thinking this right? If I "use up" my tickets with the WPM option, but don't use any WP days, will they still be good for that option, even if all park days on them are used?

Please help me wrap my head around this. My brain hurts! :confused3

I'm going to make it simple, YES, you can do that.

We are going to do the same thing in January, but we will probably use all of our major park days (which I am getting hoppers on all of them, we love to hop) and just have our WPF&M left.

I had an odd moment while activating my tickets last weekend. The CM at the gate almost didn't let me do it, and wouldn't have if my husband, the service member wouldn't have been with us this time.

I used two tickets in Sept. 2010. I used 4 in May of 2011, for myself, my daughter, my mother and brother. I activated another three last week. In total, I have used 9 of my 12 allotted tickets over a two year span, but the CM said she couldn't activate these three unless one of the tickets was used by my DH. Anyone have a clue why? Even if spouses are limited to buying 5 at a time for a limit of 10, I am still under that.

I just need to make sure I am reading the info correct...DoD civilians are NOT eligible to purchase these tickets? Is this correct? I thought that is what I read, but my nephew's wife who works with the DoD along with her husband is insisting that both of them are eligible to purchase the ticket.:confused3

You are correct, civilians cannot purchase these particular tickets but can usually purchase discounted tickets on the base where they work on.

Here is the page with the eligibility requirements. http://shadesofgreen.org/eligibility.htm I know this list is for reserving rooms, but I would guess that it covers tickets, too.

This is the wording for the Armed Forces Salute tickets from disneymilitarysales.com

Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased Oct. 24, 2010 to Sept. 28, 2011 at participating U.S. military sales outlets ONLY by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), for themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein. These Tickets may not be otherwise transferred, distributed or resold.

"Eligible Service Members" are active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Note that this is specifically for the Armed Forces Salute ticket. If your nephew's wife has access to a base ITT/MWR office, there are other discounted Disney tickets that they may be eligible to purchase. Your nephew's wife may also be referring to the Magic Your Way Stars and Stripes tickets, which DOD personnel are eligible to purchase from Shades of Green.

But these ticket options are not the same as the Armed Forces Salute tickets. The Armed Forces Salute promotion is only open to those bolded above.

We needed seven tickets: my parents, my husband and myself and our three kids. My dad, the retiree, went to SOG and they sold him six tickets and told him to explain to the ticket agent at the window at one of the parks we needed one more and they would sell it to us. We did this at Epcot and it was a non-issue. They sold us the seventh ticket, activated all seven and we were on our way.

I hope this helps someone else out!

Ok, PLEASE don't take this personally, because it is in no way shape or form a knock against you or your family, and I am very glad that your situation worked out.

But, to be frank, this really pisses me off. The policy stated by Disney states that no more than 6 can be activated at one time. They shouldn't have activated 7. Why does this peave me off so bad? Because it's situations like this that lead to confusion and arguements on this board. There is so much conflicting info that people, including the ticket office at Shades and MWR agents pass around regarding the military salute tickets that it makes it difficult to weed through what is right and what is not. Just because this situation worked for one person, doesn't mean it will work for another and I would hate for any family to read this, count on this, and have it not work for them, because as stated, it is officially against their written policy.

Please, let me say again, this isn't personal against anyone if this has worked for you, this is more of a rant against inconsistancy.

I understand what you're saying, but I only posted it because I was getting so many different answers before we went. I think the wording that is confusing is "immediate family" and what Disney counts as such. SOG confirmed, for us, that my dad's entire family would be included in this case and the ticket agent didn't bat an eye, which also tells me what is counted as immediate family.

I didn't post to confuse anyone, but to confirm for other families in the same situation. I don't think this would be the case if we weren't family...I hope this makes sense. I fully believe this would be policy and the case every time.

Generally speaking, the "more than six tickets per military family" is a special case which applies only to minor dependent children of the military person, not adult children (who are, of course, no longer dependents), or the spouses of adult children. So, if, for example, a military man has a wife and five kids ages 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, he could get seven tickets so that he and his entire immediate family could have a ticket each. You said this was for your parents, you, your spouse, and your three kids, and your father is the military retiree. While they are all family, it sounds like only your mom is actually a dependent of the military person. He should only have been allowed to purchase six tickets (and he must use one of the six). He should not have qualified to purchase a seventh.

I was just wondering about the MVMCP. I know Disney offered a discounted ticket for military for MNSSHP -- are they going to do the same for the Christmas party? They did back in 2009, but wasn't sure if it was a one-time deal.

Thanks!

Delta changed our flights, so we will all not be coming in at the same time. Three of us get in by noon, the other 2 not until around 8 pm. Can I go to DTD and get all of our tickets if I have their names and birthdays, or will we have to wait until they get there?

You don't have to have everyone with you to either purchase or activate tickets. Buy your tickets at Shades or your MWR so you don't have to pay tax on them, (you would at DTD), and as long as you have all of your parties info, you can activate them at any ticket window by yourself with your ID.
