2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

Today I spoke with a high level person in ticketing support, specifically about the number of tickets that can be activated. I pointed out that that 2009, 2010, and 2011 were separate programs, but for 2012 the internal notices indicate it is an extension of the 2011 program.

The response, after that person did further checking, was at this time the limit of the number of tickets that can be activated between October 24, 2010 and September 30, 2012, is six. This is the way the Automated Ticketing System is set up.

He had checked with the ticket pricing department, which controls this program. Their response is that at this time no decision has been made. If a decision is made to reset the counters, the decision will probably be made close to the end of September and all the counters will be reset at that time.

So right now, until Disney actually releases information otherwise, no matter what Shades of Green or any military office or blogger says, consider that six is the limit of the number of tickets that may be activated during the two year period.

If there is any official Disney published information I will notify people in this thread as well as updating Post #17 of the ticket sticky.

This is just so wrong, on so many different levels. :sad2:

I agree with you, but I am not the one who sets the rules. If it were up to me I would make and publish a decision to reset all counter on October 1. But it is Disney who makes the rules.

No problems with what you are saying. It's just -- if the 2011 ticket offer was always presented as a 2-year program of six tickets per family and room discounts, people would have whined but accepted it for what it was and planned their vacations accordingly.

I think of those who might have rather gone to WDW after Oct. 1, 2011, but didn't because of the expiration date of ticket and room discounts. With no info available on discounts after that date, it forced people's hands. Then, after vacation plans were made, and time-off was authorized, finding out that the program was extended by one year, but not restarting the ticket offer on Oct. 1, 2011? Sheesh! :confused3

Disney's handling of this was disappointing, to say the very least. I thank you for your continual monitoring of this and other situations for us. :)

Thanks for that, CF. :goodvibes

This is a benefit that I am grateful to be able to use and would LOVE to be able to use it again next year but if we can't then it is all about Disney's rules. If they were smart then they would realize that the tickets would bring them in more revenue since once we are in the parks we are going to spend on food, souvenirs and most likely stay on property as well.

Since there is the possibility that the ticket counter won't be reset, is it possible to buy 6 tickets now (traveling as a family of three) and activate them all on our August 2011 trip. If we only use 3 of the tickets, can we save the extra 3 tickets (after they are activated or should they be kept inactive?) and use them in the summer of 2012?

I'm kinda surprised they'd let one person activate two tickets, as someone else in this thread mentioned. If you can do that, our party of three will all activate 2 tickets each and in the end we will use all 6 of the allotted tickets.

I am trying to figure out what the best plan of action is for buying our tickets for this summer and still being able to get tickets again for next summer. If we need to buy all the tickets this year and save 3 for next year we can do that, but if the offer is reset for 2012 then we won't worry about it. I hope an official word is passed down on that before our August trip so we can make an decision on the best course of action. At this point, I'm thinking buying 6 tickets and holding 3 back for 2012 might not be a bad idea as long as once those tickets are activated they won't expire (until fall 2012).

Sigh...and yet someone has already been able to activate a second group of tickets apparently.

I wish they would set all the rules, make all the decisions, get everything in order BEFORE they release an extension/program change/etc. It sure would make life easier wouldn't it.

Just another thing to clarify...yeah right. :lmao:

We are going in 2 weeks and are going to purchase 5 military salute passes. We plan on using 2 Water Park and Fun entries and maybe a couple of park days. Can we save the other 2 water park entries and remaining park days to use next May? This would work great for us, especially if they don't reset the counter in Sept. I would just hate to have them expire.

Also, right now, my DD doesn't need a pass, but she will need one next May. Can we buy her ticket (6th military pass) next year?

Yes you can use some days now and the rest in May. The tickets being activated now have a Sept 2012 expiration. And you can buy the 6th later.

Ok, just to make sure I got this right. We used 5 of the military salute tickets in March. If we were to take another trip between Oct. 2011 and Sept. 30, 2012 we are eligible for another set of 6 right? Its confusing the way they have it worded this time. Last time it appeared to be a new offer, this year they have used the word "extended" which I think throws everyone off.

And to confuse things even farther, since we only used 5 in March does that mean with this extension we can get one more to use by Sept. 2012, giving us a total of 7???? Does that make sense???

That's what I've been told by one division of the company, that you can get 6 more to use 1 Oct 11 - 30 Sept 12. But as Cheshire Figment has pointed out, that info hasn't filtered to the ticket sales department.

I know it's frustrating, this same thing happened last October.

I wish the Disney departments could communicate better. It also seems like what the ticket castmember decides at the window has a lot of impact too.

For many years my late wife and I worked for the Federal Government (and then retired). We would always tell people that until we started dealing extensively with Disney we thought we worked for the largest bureaucracy in the world.

Wait...I'm really confused now.

I used 4 military salute tickets last week. We are going again in November and I was going to purchase a total of 6, after October 1st, for us to use on our Nov. trip, and a trip next September. The official Disney line at the moment is that I can't do that because it's an "extention", not a new offer? Am I understanding this right?

I absolutely love that Disney keeps giving the military discount, it's amazing, and it keeps us coming back, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they have to make it so confusing. It was a MESS last October when they were trying to figure out the new ticket offer with people getting misinformation, people INCLUDING the ticket agents, and it just seems like another mess now. It's ridiculous.

And a side note question, has anyone been able to book a WDW resort room with the military discount for after Oct. 1st yet?

I was told we could purchase up to 6 tickets for this current offer. We purchased all 6 and used them (3 people - 2 tickets each for our 8 day vacation). The tickets are good till next year, we actually still have 1 day left on 3 of the tickets.

If you purchased 4 tickets with the current offer, maybe you still have 2 to purchase for this offer ??? :confused3

As for purchasing next year, I don't know if a new offer is out or if there will be a new offer.

they did let us activate 2 of the tickets for each person. We asked at Shades of Green if that was a problem, she said, nope, you are buying and paying for each ticket, they are yours to use. Worked out great for us.

My son (navy reserve) bought two tickets each for he and I in January and the CM put my name on two an DS's name on two. No problem with the same person using two tickets.

The military discount is NOT yet offered by Disney from October 2011 on, at least not on the live "chat" site.

Hey crostorfer,

I wouldn't worry. As you said the same thing happened last October. I too can't imagine why it takes info so long to filter through the company. But the details I've posted here and on my site are what I've been given by the department that creates these offers. I've worked this year with the same individual who released the details to me last year. What he released then was exactly what the offer was when it did finally come out.

And a side note question, has anyone been able to book a WDW resort room with the military discount for after Oct. 1st yet?

I've been told mid June the fare codes will be released.
