2010/2011 Armed Forces Salute Tickets

For those of you who have purchased these tickets thru ITT/MWR -- do they levy a surcharge on the tickets or a shipping fee? We have only ever gotten our tickets thru SoG (and they *don't* do that!).

We bought our tickets the last two times at our local ITT office and there were no extra charges. They were $99 for each ticket.

My DH is now reserves, and I have an ID (form 1173-1). Problem is, I never go on base and my ID is technically expired. Do I need to go on base and get a new ID, or do they check the expiration date on the ID? I may be going down to Orlando without my husband, but wonder if I can buy tickets?

I would think you would need to get a current ID to be able to take part in the promotion and also they will not let you drive on base with an expired ID.

You will need to get a new ID card. And my DH had to go with me to get a new one when mine was about to expire, so I would call ahead to see what your local base says as it would not have even occurred to me that he would have to be with me since mine wasn't expired yet and we didn't get a divorce or anything that would make me not qualified to get one. Not sure what they do if the military member is overseas or dead, but I imagine there's some protocol that must be followed in every circumstance.

I also agree with the person who said you likely can't drive on base without a valid ID card, so if you went by yourself, you'd have to stop and get a "visitor pass" or something like that, but if you're going to need your DH to be present, you might as well know that in advance and then you can just have him drive on the base so you can get your new card. To buy the tickets in Orlando, you will need a valid ID card that indicates "spouse" (or "SP") in the "relationship" box.

I apologize in advance if this has already been covered but I'm post-work brain dead and on Disboards info overload. Regarding the Disney 4-Day Military Promotional with Park Hopper for $138/each or the 4-Day Park Hopper and Water Parks for $165/each being advertised on the SOG website, can we go to the 4 majors as many times as we wish in 4 days with the park hoppers. Or is it one trip to each of the 4 major parks to be used within 4 days? We are planning a trip for mid-July :cool2:, staying at SOG, and I had budgeted to pay full price for tickets but this sounds like a great offer. TIA!:flower3:

This is a "canned" response modified for the Armed Forces Salute 2010/2011 tickets with the assumption you have both the Park Hopper and Water Park Fun and More (WPF&M) options.

Hopefully this will make it a little clearer. In effect you have two tickets with different privileges on one card. Everything expires at Midnight on October 1, 2011. Even if you use up all your major park days, the WPF&M entries remain valid until used or 10/01/11. (Note you do not have to use the days consecutively.)

You have four days of access to the four major parks (AK, DHS, EC, MK), and may visit more than one major park on a single day without any extra charges. Without the Park Hopper option you can only go to one major park per day.

You have four entries to the minor parks (BB, DQ, OT, TL, WWS). These may or may not be used on the same days as you go to the major parks. However, if you went to TL in the morning, Oak Trail in the afternoon, and Disney Quest in the evening of one day you would have used three of the four entries. (Note that leaving and returning to the same minor park on the same day does not use an extra entry.)

If you go to minor parks only on one day and do not go to a major park you do not use up one of your major park days.

If you were to go to a Water Park in the morning and then one of the major parks for the remainder of the day you would have used one minor park entry and one day of major park entry.

Note that with the ticket unless you have the hopper option you can only go to one major park per day. Unless you have the WPF&M option you cannot go to a minor park without upgrading or purchasing a separate ticket.

Can we buy 2 now then 4 later if we decide to go again?
Yes. The most important thing is that for the sixth ticket the service member must be present; for ticket one through five these can be activated by the spouse as well as the service member.

How did you get the military room-only with dining??? Called last night and they could not find the code to get the military discount as well as add dining?

I have a question:
We have a friend coming with us who was in the Air Force Reserves (I believe) several years ago. He does not have an active id, but does have some sort of ID (I just told him to bring it, if it doesn't work we will just get regular tickets). However, we are going to be at the parks for 6 days. Is there even any benefit to having him bring the ID? If he buys the 4 day for $138, he still has to get two more days. If he buys regular tickets, it is no cheaper than just buying a regular ticket. Can he buy 2 4 days militray passes and use them, back to back (meaning use the 2nd one on the 5th day)? There is also just a discount for military isnt' there? That might be a better deal if his ID is one that they accept. Any ideas? We have already planned 6 park days and don't want to change that. We will just buy the regular ticket if we have to.
Thanks

His ID would have to show either: active duty, active reserve, retired, or permanently disabled.

The savings on two back-to-back salute tickets is $20 compared to a six day hopper, but $34 higher than a six day base ticket. So if you did not plan Park Hopping you ar better off with the six day base tickets.

we have two trips planned.

One in a few weeks, we are planning to buy two of the tickets for my BILs to use. We have PAPs.
Then we have a trip planned for my son and some friends for high school graduation next June. We would be buying the remaining four then.

The way I understand it, we have to buy all six in Nov, when we get the two for my BILs. Correct?
We can't just buy the two we need now, and then get the remaining four next June.

Also, some of the kids going are also Mil dependents. Could their parents buy theirs, but DH be there to activate it for them? We are taking them, no other parents are going on this "senior trip".
Or can DH only activate ones he buys and only the six?

Thanks. Have never had to buy any special tickets, as we always get PAPS. So this is a bit confusing for us.

It seems the "buy all 6 now" is a requirement of the outlying outlets that sell them (SoG, ITT, etc.), but CF seems to indicate that the 6 tickets can be purchased/activated at any time before 1 Oct 2011 (or 4 days before if you want to get the full 4 days out of them). Many of the outlets selling the tickets also state that one of the 6 MUST be for the military member activating them, but I haven't seen CF confirm this either - only that 6 tickets can be activated per eligible member.

I also have a FLResSP (and I am the active duty member), so I don't require the use of one of these tickets, but I'm assuming/hoping I can buy and activate 6 tickets for my friends/family. I haven't seen where CF says I cannot, and I trust him as the authority on this. :)

To answer your other question, you DH can ONLY activate 6. If there are more than 6 total going, the other mil dep will have to have their tickets activated by another eligible person (presumably their parents or any other eligible member that's not going to use all 6 during the offer period).

I agree completely with Becky.

The only way a service member may activate more than six tickets is if the service member has more than five dependents and all are with the member in one trip. And all (ten or older) must have a DD1173 that shows they are a dependent of the member.

It does not matter who buy the tickets, but a service member is limited to a total number of activations of six. And any ticket bought at any location other than a Park Ticket Window or Guest Relations Office must be activated before they can work in a turnstile.

I just returned. I am a spouse of an AF Reservist and used the hotel discount (25% off Pop) and they never even asked for my ID!

I got my tickets at WDW(MK ticket window, to be exact), since there wasn't time to get from our base ITT. The cost was $147.xx with tax. I needed names and birthdates of all those for whom I was getting tickets. I was able to use more than one payment(For my first purchase I paid for 2 tickets, mine and a friend who wouldn't arrive that day, and another friend paid for her own at that time). Later that day I was able to buy a ticket for someone not there yet. Also, I was able to go back later that same day when another friend arrived (she also paid for her own). I purchased 4 tickets. One of us used only 3 days, but she can come back anytime between now and Oct 1, 2011(excluding blackout dates) and use that day. I was also told I can purchase one more before the promotion is over, and DH can still come and purchase his (we are allowed 6, but only if one ticket is for him)

I'm really thankful that WDW has offered such a great deal! We were only there for 4 days and really used those park hoppers.:)

Quick question, I read through the whole thread so hopefully this wasn't covered somewhere else. :goodvibes

I'm taking a trip to WDW with my neighbors in February, who are a military family. They were kind enough to offer me their remaining Salute Ticket and I'm just wondering if we will be able to have these tickets added to our room keys at the front desk of our hotel as we have done with "normal" tickets in the past, or if (because ID is required to enter) we will have to keep them separate from the room card which will also have our meal credits on them.

Thanks and Happy Veterans Day to any who may be reading!

Ann

Yes and no. If you find the right CM that knows how to do it--yes. However, it did mess up our charging privileges, etc. this past summer. I would advise to just have the 2 separate. It really isn't difficult to keep both as they don't really take up any space.
