DW and myself are planning on going to WDW sometime during F&W next year. We basically can go anytime during October. So my question is - is it better to go earlier or later or does it matter. My plan is to get an 11 month studio ressie at VWL (home resort) but would like to change it to either BWV or BCV at 7 months if possible. When would I have a better chance of changing - early or late October? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It will be tough for a studio at any time, but probably hardest on the Sunday- Monday over the Columbus Day weekend. A 1 BR may be easier, if that is an option.

Our first trip home in 2005 was for a 1 BR BW view. We booked 6 months out, arriving on Columbus Day. We had to waitlist for the BW view for Columbus Day, but were able to book a PV as a back up. Our WL came through the Friday before our arrival!

I called exactly at 7 months to book either BVC or BWV for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday after Columbus Day. BVC was not available, and I had to take preferred at BWV. Waitlisted BW view and I'm still waiting.

Part of the problem with this Columbus Day weekend is that there is a mini-marathon race on Sunday, October 12 (10K Race for the Taste). I think that is why most everything is sold out for DVC for 10/9, 10/10 & 10/11.

If you can, try to stay away from any race weekends - there is also a race on Oct 5 (5K SUsan G Komen Race for the Cure) and Oct 25 this year (13K Twilight Zone Tower of Terror). AFAIK, these are annual events.

From the standpoint of weather, our experience has been the later in Oct., the better. Less chance of Hurricanes, plus, better chance of it being cooler. It can be very hot in Oct. Last year we got several 90 plus days.

I was able to get a BWV studio 4 months out and my waitlist for BCV came through 2 months prior....There's no accounting for luck and pixie dust. I say avoid the marathon and Columbus Day weekeend and you should be fine, worse case you stay at VWL.
