Here's my review of 2009 Candlelight Processional

I arrived at the park on Saturday around 11am. Already all the bench seating was taken. I overheard a cast member saying that the policy for holding seats was that each person can only hold one seat. So for a party of 2, one person must stay there to hold a seat. For a party of 3, two people must stay, etc.

On the right side of the hub, near City Hall, people started lining up in the streets a little before 3pm. Lots of people laying down blankets.
On the left side of the hub, near Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, people had to wait until the 3:30 parade moved out of the area before they could start camping in the streets.

Around 4pm, Jon Voight came out and did a quick rehearsal. Walking up to the podium and getting familiar with the stage. Afterwards he came down to the right side of the hub and walked the entire length around the roped off area, greeting, shaking hands, and taking photos with all the people who had been waiting. Everyone in my area commented how this was a nice of him.

The Candlelight processional started at 5:30 with the cast member choir and the rest of the choirs moving down Main Street. They slowly filled in areas on stage. Jon Voight read the Christmas Story from the book of Luke.

It was a really great program. Seeing the trumpeters on the top of Main Street Railway was awesome!

Jon Voight ended the night thanking the choir, conductor, and everyone else who put the program together. Finally he pointed up to Heaven and thanked his mother. He asked her to say "Hi" to Walt, and to thank him for all of this, and to also wish him a Happy Birthday.

This ended the first performance. Afterwards, cast members cleared out the entire hub area including the benches and the streets. They started a line extending down Main Street towards the castle for people who wanted to see the second show. Around 7:20pm they started letting people back in to the section, first to the benches, and then to the streets.

They started the 2nd show at 8pm. Nothing significant was different between the two shows.

Here are my photos from the entire Candlelight Processional.

Also, if you have friends or family who were up on stage, let me know and I can look through my photos and see if I can find them for you.

Thank you for the photos, the review, and the information! I'd always been curious about this but I don't think I've read a more detailed, yet somehow concise, review. It tells me everything I wanted to know, no more and no less. :)

Great pictures and review! That was really sweet that he pointed to heaven and said that to his Mom.

We were at DL at opening on Saturday and as soon as we got to Town Square, people were sitting on those benches and getting their spots. Very early!

Thank you for sharing your experience and the pictures. I probably wouldn't have been able to see what that was like in person so your pictures were another wonderful way to experience that.

Thanks for all the great comments and praise. It really was a great time. Myself and lot of people sitting around me were really impressed by the way Jon Voight came down and interacted with the crowd after rehearsals. Here's a few more photos just showing what a great guy he is.

These photos are absolutely beautiful! Can you give me some specs on what camera you are using?

I'm using a Canon Digital Rebel Xti. I mostly used the 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens, sometimes with a 2x extender. For the some of the closer shots, I used the Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens.

Wow, beautiful pictures! You are definitely very talented.

I feel really silly cuz my friend and I were in the audience in front of the Opera House waiting from about 4 PM on and we didn't know he was even out and about. LOL. We were sitting on the ground playing cards, haha!

I also feel like I missed so much by looking at your pics! I didn't even see the dang trumpeters!!

Wow, this is really great, thank you very much for pulling this together and posting it here for all who couldn't be there. It looks like a great event.

What did the choir sing?

Thank you very much for your review and beautiful photos. It looks like it was another spectacular show.

What did the choir sing?

I don't remember all the songs. The show went on for about an hour with singing and narration.

There were a few songs that stood out though.

"Silent Night" sung by a fantastic Italian singer. He sung the major portions in Italian while the choir joined in in English.

Also Handel's "Halleujah" chorus was great. The entire crowd automatically standing to their feet when it started gave me chills.

I agree, that singer was absolutely amazing. And I don't have a great ear for music.... anyone know who he was? I liked when he invited everyone to sing along, too.

Oh, I just realized that, with everyone standing. That's awesome.

Very nice compact review. Loved your shots. I have the XTI as well. Your shots came out great. What was your ISO for those shots? What is your favorite lens?

If anyone has any pictures at all of the 5:30pm Sunday show (December 6), I would be thrilled.

I agree, he is a great guy, he took the time to come over and talk to our kids after the show and a lot of other people, he is first class...

Those are great pics! I especially appreciate you sharing since I was there with my brand new video camera - and got no video ( only pushed one of the 2 buttons needed! ). Oh well....I'll try again next year.
