2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

OK, so it's looking like February 12-17, 2009 for me, DH, and my parents. If we do a value, it will be POP - a moderate, Coronado Springs, and a Deluxe, Wilderness Lodge. HOPEFULLY it will be WL, but we'll have to see how things go. DH and I are hoping there will be a new addition to our family by then,so we'll have to see how things all work out! All we can hope for is prayers, pixie dust, baby dust, and wishes :)

Our first trip was April 2007. I booked six nights. And we knew we would not see everything, so we relaxed and toured at our own pace. I did make dinner ADR's for every night though.
We arrived on Sun. about 5PM. Its all day travel for us, comming from the west coast with time zones and all. Mon and Tue were park days, Wed was a rest day and hubby golfed the Palm. Dinner was Spirit of Aloha. Thu and Fri were park days. Sat. we left for home. I thought this was going to be a one time trip. 2 hours into the flight home he leans into me and says, "so, when are we going back!"

My two mistakes: Not enough nights, and I didn't get hoppers.

So have any of you started a countdown of any kind? We started just as soon as we got home from our 2006 trip. We have so many Disney DVD's that we decided to write them all down and put them in a jar and twice a month we have a Disney movie night. We draw a movie and that is what we watch. Then the last month before we go we are going to watch all our favorites over again. I also printed off a chart with a whole bunch of tiny squares equal to how many days we had left (so there are a ton of squares!) and I color one in everyday. It will be very colorfull by the time we go.

I love that Disney movie night idea, Mrs. Grumpy!
I'll have to think of something fun too. I better move fast--TourGuideMike says I only have 484 days left. Now, where did I put that suitcase?

Hi! Pop is a great resort and so is Coronado. I stayed there once on a girls only trip. It is huge! But it is gorgeous!:cloud9:

I wish you luck with having a new little one.:wizard: They are a blast to take to Disney.

I need to have your DH call my DH! Lucky, LUCKY you!

I am debating the need for hoppers. We've had them the past 2 trips, and did use them ... but very little. I am looking for ways to cut expenses, so this may be the place. We are going in January -- which means closing times are earlier, so I don't know that we would take the time to hop over to another park anyway. That travel time between parks is precious! I know that in the past, if you bought the MYW pkg in Jan/Feb, hoppers were free -- but I may book room only and not do a package. We don't want the DDP this time. SO many decisions!

We're having a Super Bowl party here tomorrow, so I'd better get some work done around the house and figure out the rest of the food, etc.
Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the welcome! I love Pop!:lovestruc DH and I decided to stay at the Poly because we are saving for a loooong time and we probably won't ever spend the money to stay there again....(riiiiiiiight:rolleyes1). I heard that the Poly is addicting. I may have to start playing the lottery after we stay there. I am also looking into WL. AND, today I made the mistake of looking at some of the Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas....soooo gorgeous!! Ah, I have almost a year and a half to make up my mind.:)

Thanks for the info on disney shopping.com!:thumbsup2

Yep, be careful, the Poly is addicting!!! We decided to splurge on it for our 2007 trip, thinking we wouldn't be returning for many years. Now here we are planning for 2009...at the Poly!

My plans for 2009 were to go on the Disney cruise for March break. Then we added a couple of nights at the Nickolodian hotel before the cruise but we were not planning on going to the parks before hitting the cruise. I just might add a night or two after the cruise at one of the Disney resorts... :rotfl:

DH and I took DS8 and MIL on a shopping road trip this morning (Target, Kohls, etc)about 45 minutes from home. On trips like this, I sometimes take a guide book and read aloud about WDW. MIL was incredulous that I was already planning meals for a trip in June 09. She wouldn't stop talking about how crazy it was. She was very annoying. I know where I'd like to shove some Pixie Dust! pixiedust:

MIL was incredulous ... that

My mom is the same way .... that's why I won't even tell her about this trip until about a month beforehand (Christmas) .... which is when our kids will find out. My sister will be the same way .... with an edge of major jealousy thrown in.

I find it incredible that anyone would say anything about other people's vacation plans. Why does it matter when they are not going to be there.

My MIL is pretty bad that way too.

ughhhhhh! I don't know what has gotten into me! I foolishly checked other resort prices for rates, and I cannot get the price difference out of my head! What was I thinking :crazy2: ?

In my frazzled mind, I have 5 nights at the Poly vs 7 nights at Pop with a difference of $2000+. At first, I kept telling myself: monorail, pool, beach, etc. Now all I can think of is: 2 extra days, AND save $2000. When I mentioned it to DH (who originally said 5 days, tops), he said it was a no-brainer and had no problem with the extra 2 days!

Should I put my Poly Dream on hold for a few years? The kids are still young, and I can't imagine them not being thrilled with Pop. DH said not to worry about monorail vs bus. I would really love 7 days...it would make things less rushed for us.

For me - it would be an easy choice. Do the extra days and use the savings toward another trip.

We bought into the DVC because I like the really nice hotels and I needed to get them at a better price.

One decision I came to is that there will be more elaborate things to do with the kids when they are a little older and will enjoy it more.

Again, we are going to WDW in March 2009

A friend recommeded the Music resort but I've seen some wonderful pics of the POP resort. My girls will be 7 and 9 when we go. What does everyone suggest? Is one better than the other? Pros and cons? Tell me all!:surfweb:

Well, you KNOW I love the Poly - but as I've said before - if it made the difference in order to stay longer, I'd stay value or offsite in a second!

If you really find that the busses seem to be poor - heck, you could even get a cab daily and still save a ton of $$$$.

I think it would be very hard to squeeze everything (well, not everything, that's impossible!! But, everything I'd want to do within reason) into 5 days. I'd go POP. Another consideration is to go moderate if you want interior corridors, pool slides, etc. Obviously the savings wouldn't be as much, but I'd think you could still go 7 nights vs. 5 and still save $$.

We stayed at Pop last summer, and the bus system there was terrific! Pop doesn't have to share busses like the All-Star resorts do, so you're straight to the parks and back! We were really pleased with our stay there--the theming is terrific! We stayed in the 50's section, and it was so much fun! The pools were great, food court really good, and housekeeping left us little towel animals or treats a few days (a 60's themed Rubix cube one day). We'll be there again in June 2009!!:thumbsup2

Thanks, everyone! We have decided to switch to Pop. The extra days mean more time to relax and go at a slower pace :thumbsup2 !

Good morning, everyone!
I hope you all are enjoying your Sunday. :) I know that the Super Bowl is today...I don't watch football so I will be dising and doing homework----I know my life is exciting!:lmao:

The movie night thing is a GREAT idea! I may have to steal it! We have lots of Disney movies. Aristocats comes out on Tuesday, too! I think we will have a new movie to add to the collection. I also like the chart idea. I think anything to help pass the time is great. DH thinks I am a little nuts because I love Disney. I explained to him that Disney is my hobby that I really only get to experience once a year (if I am lucky). I asked him how he would feel if he could only bonsai once a year. I think he understands now. So, planning a trip keeps me happy. Even if it is 16 months away.

I love that Disney movie night idea, Mrs. Grumpy!

 Now we are looking into POR! We want to spend 10 day at Disney. I would love to stay at the Poly but maybe I should save it for a shorter trip.:confused3 Still lots of time to decide.:thumbsup2

Ugh. If I even mention Disney World (or DL) to my family...they give me the look. My family doesn't get the whole Disney thing...and that is fine with me. They aren't the ones paying for it.

I love me some POP! It really is a great resort. My DD loves it. They have Pop Jets, Big ol icons, lots of food choices at the food court, GREAT bus service (IMO ;) ), and it is a great deal. I say go for it!:thumbsup2

Pop! Check out my post above this. There is also this thread that may help.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=21626944#post21626944

This should be current and somewhat accurate. If I'm wrong about your name/dates/resort or if you want to change something or if you just want to say hi, either post or PM me!
