2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

CANDIZFAN - We plan on flying. I just have to check and see about prices to fly from Toronto or from Buffalo and any package deals. I want the Disney package. Do Canadian travel agents have any of these available or do you have to go through the States? I'm sure it will be cheaper from Buffalo for flying. Thanks for the dates for March break. Our board sometimes has the Friday before the full week off but don't think that will happen next year. Your time share sounds like a great way to go.

I have never used a travel agent for my Disney trips. I did just arrange for a friend to go, so I booked it and then tranferred it to an agent after the fact.

CAA use to get discounted tickets but I have not seen that in a few years.

You can get a Disney planning package sent from Disney to your house. Plus that will start the Disney "promo" mailings as well. Which I love!

You can book any package you want to at Disney using a Canadian travel agent. It does not make any difference to Disney.

The time share is wonderful and I do rent out points now and then so if you want to get the deals on how that works, I can fill you in. You can email me at jlmcnab@cogeco.ca Even if you don't rent from me, I don't mind letting you know how it works so you can look at it as an option.

This should be current and somewhat accurate. If I'm wrong about your name/dates/resort or if you want to change something or if you just want to say hi, either post or PM me!

Post your info, and I'll update the list!

Well, I just emailed my TA with a change (the first of many)! I think we will do 11/26/09 - 11/28/09 room only at POP, then do a package with 7-day base tix and dining at POR 11/28/09-12/5/09. It's too early to book of course, but I want to try and get a AAA discount for the three nights at POP so I want her to to book it as soon as it's available. We won't have tix for the first couple of days, but I want to avoid the parks on the Fri and Sat after Thanksgiving anyway. We'll do DTD and a water park or just hang out at the hotel pool, tour some resorts, look at Christmas decorations, etc.

Planning is so much fun! ;)

Duly noted! :thumbsup2

Sounds like fun! I love the idea of spending the first couple of days leisurely taking in things you might otherwise miss!

:cool1: Yippee!!!
Study these boards so you don't make rookie mistakes!!!

Okay, there's a topic we can discuss (no new plans here, yet I WANT to talk Disney!).... Today's challenge....

Name some Rookie mistakes......
* If they are mistakes that you've made, all the better! Tell us a story, pleeease? :flower3:
* Try to think of mistakes not already mentioned (unless you have a great story to accompany your mistake(s)! :scared1:
* I don't know about you, but even though I am not "new" anymore, I sure want to make sure I am avoiding those Rookie mistakes!

Can't wait to read your replies. I tend to block out my past mistakes .... so I'll have to do something thinking. :lmao:

I'll get on it first thing in the morning!
Right now I'm DISing while I sit on DS's bed. He wanted me to come in here with him while he did his required reading for school. Actually he asked me to come read too. I asked if reading the DIS counts! He said sure. :goodvibes That's m'boy!
So now he's fallen asleep, and I'm still here! I gotta get to bed!
I'll contemplate which of my many mistakes I want to start with...

LOL, I need to learn these for sure!!!

I am thinking about if I want to surprise DD and DS next year with the trip or let them do a countdown.

Planning our first family trip for August 2009. Want to take ds before he starts kindergarten. Want to go mid August so I don't have to pull him out of school but also want free dining... what to do, what to do... lucky for me I have time to think about it and maybe a strategy will present itself..

Anyone know if I will be able to get a code for holiday period--week of christmas thru new years...planning on staying at WL but would love GF

My biggest Rookie Mistake was Overplanning.

My first trip to WDW as an adult was when DS was 2.
We stayed at the Poly....which was a mistake because now I'm hooked!:cloud9:

Our big mistake was overplanning. I tried to plan too much, and with a 2 year old and trying to wait on busses, boats, etc, we just got frustrated because we couldn't fit it all in.

Now we plan ADR's and which day we are going to which park, but that's it...everything else we just play by ear...we know we can't do everything and always leave on the hope that we'll be back in a couple of years.

My plans: We're taking the grand parents down (3 total) so we're staying in a DVC villa. We're renting points. (gasp!) I've already got 150 lined up (I hope) with reservation planned at AKL for a 2 bedroom villa for 5 nights. We are going to try to change to a BCV at the 7 month mark, but AKL would be great too.

But seeing all your plans for the long stays, and DH's disappointed expression when he found out we weren't staying the week. I think we'll send the grand parents home on Friday, jump to a value and stay an extra two nights. Or maybe keep our eyes peeled for a BCV suite for the four of us. That might end up not costing *that* much more than the value room. :rotfl2:

Here's the thing, my DS is very high functioning ASD (autism spectrum disorder) so staying in a villa with a kitchen and lots of room is really, really appealing.

Anyway, if we do the 5 nights with gp and 2 extra days just the fam, I won't mind scheduling a half day (or even full day) without the parks. Hmmm. So much to consider... I feel like I need to rush, this is only 12 months away!

I love reading all your posts. I ordered the Disney Maps and will use those to start my plan of attack. I'll need at least two versions: 1 if we stay at AKL and 1 if we get into BCV. Also another if we decide to stay those extra 2 days.

Has anyone stayed at the Nickolodean hotel? My kids know the Noggin characters more than Disney at this point (except the princesses and Nemo). That might be a good choice for the "extra" days....

Thanks again,
Heather

Hroyale -

Be sure to visit the disabilities board. They are just full of great info!

I didn't make any rookie mistakes:snooty:
I found the DIS, Allears.net and UG before I left!:p
