***2009-2010*** cheer parent thread!!

So exciting!!!!!!!! Congrats to your dd! That is awesome news! :cheer2:

Thank you so much!! I can't tell you how good it feels to have all of that behind us, but I am sure if you are reading this you already know. Even though this is for next year, they start when school starts back after spring break, which is this week. It's pretty exciting. :dance3:

Love your family photos!!! Good luck to all as the season winds down. :)

Just sharing a shot from this season. My dd had a broken finger back in October - but even still - it's been a good run! :)

What a great shot! DD9 was a flyer last year and also broke her finger but as most do..it wasn't while competition or practice but rather from tumbling at a friends house. :rotfl:

I wanted to thank everyone for the support. I have not been on here much, we have been so busy, but DD tried out this past Friday night to be a middle school cheerleader and she made it. :cheer2: We are so excited!! We will be attending Cheer Camp in Panama City this June. Anyone else going?

YAY!:cheer2: So happy she made it. :cheer2:

Well...our gym didn't do as good as we wanted but not bad either. Mini and Youth teams both came in 2nd with 7 teams in both divisions. Jr and Sr teams didn't fair as well..both came in 2nd however there were only 2 teams in the Jr. division and 3 in Sr's. They had a few bobbles and early releases due no doubt due to last min. changes in the routines. Overall I think everyone performed well. Our dance teams did a great job and performed GREAT even though only the YHH had competition (whom also came in 1st).

I also had an opportunity to 'fall into' Donna (donnajon) and watch her kids compete. I say fall into because that's kinda what I did..almost stalkerish type however I really just miss stepped while trying to reach out to her and take a step down (hence why I've never cheered..just danced...lol). They did awesome but I'll let her do the bragging for them. It was cool to be able to meet someone from the DIS. :goodvibes

Well, our season is over now. We had nationals this past weekend and it was really fun. Our girls won't practice anymore until September. Do your girls still practice over the summer? My dd will do gymnatics for the spring and summer and hopefully improve her tumbling.

Oh gosh - that's a nice, long break! I think our club has try outs in early May. Then the teams get together starting in June for a whole summer of conditioning, tumbling, etc. It's my dd's least favorite time of the year for cheer. They usually begin building the routines by August.

Now I'm curious to see what other people do over the summer. :cutie:

our last comp is april 10, we continue to practice until end of april working on skills. Our tryouts are the first week in May and we start team practices the next Monday. We only practice twice a week until september and then we add in the weekend practice in the fall.

My girls really don't like summer time. Our last competition is Worlds on May 1st/2nd and then the new season starts the following Mon. May 3rd. He only holds tryouts for new people. They have their routines by June/July with weekend camps to work on the choreography. They are also required to take 1 week of tumble camp but there are several during the summer. He also holds flight camps during the summer. Always, something. :goodvibes New competition schedule starts in Oct.

Our last comp is mid April. Try outs are right after. Our coaches are the gym owners (small gym, family owned and run) and they usually take a two week vacation in late April. The gym is shut down while they are gone. After that they do two practices a week for conditioning and tumbling and team members are welcome to all Open Gym times (coach supervised) for free all year. They have a one week camp in July where they learn the routine. During the summer they have the chance to be in parades and do demos at fairs, ect. There is also a lot of team building gatherings like sleepovers and picnics. That's all optional but most people participate. Once September hits practices are amped up and they add a day to the schedule. First comp of the season is usually November.

So, aside from the two weeks where the gym is shut down, there really is no break. Summer is much more relaxed and not so much "required" but we still practically live there.

It was great to meet you! And to have some other team to cheer for. And I thought your Jr and Sr teams got robbed! They really looked great. I didn't see the Youth and Minis. Our Sr level 3 team came in 1st. That was so exciting for them. We had a new girl added to replace someone who had a broken leg and she just started a few weeks ago. She had tears coming down after they won. She had to borrow my DD's uniform because the other one she borrowed was too tight. It was a mad rush to change after awards and get to warm-ups on time. Our Juniors finished 3rd out of eight so we were pleased. They were clean with just a few slight bobbles. We did have someone come up to us and tell us they were glad our Youth weren't performing so that other teams had a chance to win. Haha!

We still have 3 more competitions. We go to Jacksonville, Florida this weekend for Clash of the Titans and we go to Myrtle Beach on April 10. Then our youth won a paid bid to All-Levels in Atlanta which is on April 17.

We will have tryouts on May 8 and then have to be in the gym twice a week for two hours plus an hour per week for tumbling. DS hates the summer routine. He says it is boring until they start choreography. I'm not sure when that is scheduled for.

Congrats to all and good luck to those still competing.

Our tryouts are April 28th. After tryouts, the kids will practice all summer (with a short break over 4th of July) with their groups. Teams are announced sometime late summer.

Our first competition is usually in November.

HAHA...we agree about our teams. I was very shocked about Sr's. Especially since the team that came in 1st place had 2 touch downs and not half the tumbling we had. But that's how it is....very subjective at times. Learn and move on. :goodvibes

I really think your teams did good. I was cheering them on and my mom was like how do you know that team. :rotfl: So then I had to explain my extended friendship with the DIS family. Love it!!! Our youth had a rough time...dropped an extention. Our Mini's did AWESOME however they are really a small mini and the team that one is large mini level. But it's all good. They rocked and had a good time. :goodvibes

Maybe next year we'll run into some of your comps again! ;)

Congrats to everyone!

We have two comps. left--April 10-11 and 17-18 in Kansas City, MO.

As far as "summer" goes, I believe the girls are done after the Kansas City weekend until try-outs on May 8. Then they start practicing that Monday, May 10. This year they are not going to finalize the teams until the end of the summer, so I'm not sure how they'll group the kids or if they'll just give various times and you can make your own schedule. They will have several weeks of conditioning camp (daily) and choreography camp (daily) to begin learning routines sometime in July. School doesn't end this year until June 9 or 10 and begins again in Mid-Aug., so there isn't much time off at all. They do allow reasonable family vacations. We'll actually miss try-outs and the first week of the "new" year as we'll be in Disney, but we'll not miss much over the summer. (They'll let the girls try out early.) My girls are not fans of all the conditioning, either, but they are in MUCH better shape this year than last!

The gym is also closed during our Spring Break which is coming up. I wish they would have at least tumbling or a camp or something, but it is what it is!

That is funny about your mom because when my DD came back after competing, she asked my why I was cheering on your team! I didn't really understand the team that came in second place on the Jr. 2. Only half of them had tumbling and the other half sat in the back for a good 30 -45 seconds doing nothing but waiting for tumbling to finish before starting the pyramid. I remember thinking, "Why are they just standing there." But, I guess if you don't do anything, you don't do anything wrong. Haha. The comments on the judges sheets were mostly about holding the legs together when tumbling, which is true. But we didn't have any deductions. One of the mom's from our rival gym said we got robbed - that is a huge complement! But it was fun! I'm sure we'll be at Spirit of Hope next year. I remember seeing your team there this year. We're getting ready to go to Jacksonville, Florida this weekend. So close to Disney and yet so far!

Awwwww....sooo soooo close. LOL! My girls go to year round school so we'll do the competition at Universal and then head over to Disney for a few days. I'm soooo excited.

Is anyone going to Cincy this weekend for the varsity American Nationals? This is our last competition for the season.

Anyone get to go to Vegas for the US Finals in April? Only one team did, our Open Hip Hop dance crew did be good to see fellow DIS'rs there!

It's April 15th in Vegas!
