We just returned from WSA Nationals in New Orleans. DD11's youth 3 team won first and Grand Champions in level 3! The gym brought home 3 first places and one third. It was a good weekend.

Congrats. I love it when you see such good attitudes when uncharacteristic mistakes are made! It sounds like you have a great team with their heads on their shoulders the right way.

Thanks, they are a great group of kids. I was really impressed when they were the only gym to stand up and applaud for all of the other teams that came in first place, even the teams that beat the juniors and seniors.

Are any of your teams going to be at the Gaylord Resort Center in National Harbor, MD this weekend for Battle of the Capitol? DGD will be competing there for Unique All Stars out of Columbia, Md. on youth level 1.

I am getting so nervous!! My DD will be trying out in two weeks to be a middle school cheerleader, and I have butterflies in my stomach already. She has been doing great though. They are not required to do a back tuck, thank goodness, but she has everything else down fine so hopefully things will go well. They start cheer camp on the 8th and tryouts are that Friday, the 12th. Please, please, wish us luck.

We are back from another great competition. Our Senior L3 and Junior L2 both placed 2nd - they were really the best teams but had some uncharacteristic mistakes - seniors busted two tuck tumbling passes big time - one girl fell on her fanny and anthor fell on her stomach - sprawled out flat! - she was so funny though, she jumped up and flashed a big smile and held her hands out like "tada!" The JRs dropped a stunt and had a big bobble in their pyramid - they never do that so I felt like they beat themselves. But everything else was very clean.
Our Youth L1 - won their division and Grand Champions of the first half - It was a smaller competition in Salisbury, NC and they divided it into two division and only gave one Grand Champion per division so that was awesome. And it was really cool when, after they performed, other teams came up to us and kept asking, "Where are y'all from?"

Congrats to all your teams! We'll be in Charlotte next Sun. for a competition. We've had several injuries and changes. I'm praying big time!

Anyone competing in UCA at Disney in 10 days?

Are you going to CaNam? We use to go to that but haven't for the last 3 years and won't next year but I think it's a good competition. We will be in MB in April...hehehehe

High school cheer tryouts are tomorrow. Remember the girl who hurt her knee right before NCA? She's still on crutches and I just realized last night that she won't be able to try out for school cheerleader. A whole year of HS cheer she won't be able to experience because of that injury. Sad. (Sad for the squad, too, because her toe touches are about to her ears!)

Here if you are injured, you can submit a video of you cheering for tryouts. Can she do that?

Thank you so much. I have been painting my bedroom for the past two days, off & on, trying to keep my mind off of it. It's not working.

Something that I don't understand. This is middle school & even at the HS tryouts a few weeks ago the girls had to do a tuck, but those who couldn't did a standing double back handspring for less than half the points. 5 for the tuck & 2 for the SBHS. Is this normal? the girls were told that they would score higher if they tried the tuck and fell than they would if they did a perfect double BHS. Most girls, including my DD are going for the double BHS. There are only two or three at most that can do the other & they fall. What would you advise?

This time next week, it will almost be over.

I haven't been on here too much lately.. busy with the season I guess.

Who all is going to Worlds? I figured what better place to ask about it than here..how much better can it get.. the most amazing cheer competition in the world and disney!

I'm staying at the ASMu in the family suites. Can't wait.. more because it's disney than cheer I must admit.

My girls teams aren't going but our gym is sending our Small Senior and Unlimited Coed.

We're going to be in Charlotte next week, too! Well, our Junior 2 and Senior 3 teams are. We are making up a competition they missed in December. I wish our Youth 1 were going. They really are the bomb for a level 1 team. We have 7 flyers that do chin-chins! Tell me again who your team is and what levels you have so I can cheer for you. I can't remember everyone's team. We have a junior flyer with mono so had a substitute a girl. I don't know how those kids can learn a new routine in just a week!

Today my dd had her last performance for this season. She is on the special needs team right now but she loves cheer so much we are going to try and move her to the show team and then up through the different levels. She hates that she has no more performances and has to take a summer break in not too long.

Thank you all for letting me brag on my little one on this thread. She has found her calling I think and I have to be honest and say that even though I never ever thought I would be a cheerleader mom I am proud to be one!

How close is she to her tuck? Maybe the thinking is if they try the tuck and just barely fall, that they will have it by the fall. Do they do any running tumbling, like a roundoff backhandspring tuck? If she isn't close to the tuck, I wouldn't even think about trying it but if she sometimes gets it or is close, it might be something to consider. Could she squeeze in any private lessons at a gym this week?
