To all of you who replied to my question...thanks so much! I just got back from a week at WDW and appreciate everyone's comments.
Well, DS tells me the kids that are wanting to audition will be looking at Phantom Regiment to do so. I think their HS assistant director has been working with a few of them who he thinks has some potential. I know he's got those "big expectations" a couple of ya'll mentioned and so does DS's private music teacher and it's rubbing off on DS. I just don't want him to get a big head or get his hopes up too high to be disappointed...but that is Mom talking. (And that Mom will be suggesting a lower division to tryout for the first time.) I am behind him 100% on this endeavor if it's really what he wants to pursue. I know there are many great things he can gain from it and wouldn't want to deny him the opportunity if he does get it. But at the same time I want him to know that it's a HUGE commitment for him and if he gets it, then he's with it for the duration. He's got a good work ethic so I don't think that would be a problem. Since I returned from WDW, he's told me he's reconsidering his career options. For the last couple of years he's been thinking of medicine, but now he's listening to his heart and is thinking about being a musician in some form or another.
In any case, thanks for all the info and support! I'll keep ya'll posted on how it goes for DS.
