Not Gay but can I join in on the discussion.

I LOVE corps...Being a former University of Oklahoma Pride of Oklahoma Marching band member and music teacher I love to follow it.

I never got to be in a corp due to the fact I am a woodwind ....GASP and I sucked at flags.

Anyway I love to hear and join in on your thoughts of the 2008 season.

Of course you can join in, everyone is welcome here!

We just keep this on the gay boards cuz it gets lost on the Community Board.

"To all who come to this happy place...Welcome!" - Walt Disney

Just noticed one of the Orlando locations is an IMAX.
SWEEEEEEEEEEET!!! :cool1:

Do they actually show it on the IMAX screen? That would be so awesome!

I think this is the most perfect thing ever invented--I get to see my goddaughter march, while still remaining in air-conditioned, cushy comfort! Why didn't they think of this sooner???

Anyone else hearing rumors that finals may be moved YET AGAIN to Lousiville?

UGH!

My opinion, SHUT UP!!!!!!! I don't go to a drum corps show to be preached to-especially when the preaching is seemingly written by a 16 year old. THAT SAID, I love what the Cadets do visually and musically. They are skilled musicians who march their butts off. The distraction of the narration, the "stage" and the pithy "message" leave me scratching my head. IMO they have a tremendously talented drum corps and a director willing to take chances and advance the activity. But trying to turn the activity into a platform for banal Dr. Phil philosophy is, (once again IMO) a mistake.
Give me BAC any day!!! :woohoo:
Disclaimer: I am a fan of the activity, and applaud every corps for their efforts. I last attended finals in 2005 and stood for every corps and applauded until my hands hurt. I know how hard these people work, and whether or not I like the show itself, I appreciate their dedication and commitment.

this was exactly my reaction and opinion when I saw them 2 weeks ago in Madison. I have a friend who used to march with them...I'd love his opinion on the matter.

 Thats what I said a few years ago about finals..... then they did the Indiana thing for 10 yrs. I figured with the history, finals would be making another appearance in Orlando grrrrrrrrrrr

I lived in So. Cal. forever.... never finals closer than Denver. I decide to move here and the next summer finals are 30 minutes from where I lived  in Pasadena.

Oh well... I get this weekend (see ya there Mike), a day at MK sweating with the corps :woohoo:

AND...... a cool comfy theater next month  with little to no energy and excitement!!

Have fun Mike..

Very nice meeting you last weekend...too bad I picked the WRONG weekend to be there!

I will get to see the Cavies and Santa Clara in a couple of weeks at the Crusaders show, plus I get to perform with the Crusaders Sr. corps that night...Can you say Conquest..ahh the old days!. 5 days prior I will be performing at the same field at Mission Drums Sr. corps show..with both the Crusaders, and Mass Brass that night...That week should be a hoot...Youtube video to follow!...

First off I must congratulate Crown for beating the Cadets! They truly deserved this first time ever accomplishment tonight, and I am so glad I got to witness it!

Keep up the great work Crown!

Now about the show. First of all, this stadium needs to be imploded, plain and simple! It's in a very bad neighborhood, it's run down, and it's mismanaged! We parked near where the corps parked, and had to walk to the complete opposite end of the stadium to get in, and I knew this would be the case. But when they told us we couldn't exit the "corps gate" where quite literally we could see the truck was ridiculous! Look I know the area is tight, but this is drum corps, not a Rolling Stones concert! I want to get to my car, its right there, let me go....BUT NOOO. So we had to schlep all around the stadium once again, through the hood, with no street lights and no police presence. Not a nice thing for any activity.

Parking is basically rare in a stadium lot, and you park wherever someone is selling a spot. So we ended up parking at the Elks Club, and they put us right next to the big lake near the stadium, literally 1 foot away from the lake on a hill that has been rained on for the past month.....Anyone else smelling trouble? By the time we got out of the show they had so many cars packed in there was no way we were gonna get out. Long story short we got stuck in the mud, on a downward slope, literally inches from a lake. Shrek is going ballistic at this point! :sad2: "We need someone to help push!" Well there were lots of other words too, but we wont go there! So I get out of the truck and look around, and low and behold there are some bushes.

I notice an odd odor coming out of said bushes! :scared1:

You know, I had to chuckle, the more things change in Drum Corps the more they stay the same.:smokin:

So after I interrupted the post performance relaxation ceremony I asked these kids if they would help, and in true Drum Corps fashion, they jumped right in and got us out of our fix! Thank God!

Now onto the corps...

Teal Sound - Great Div 2 corps, they have a good show. Little sloppy, but hey it's July

Crossmen - Lacked GE, pretty boring, but kind of clean

Spirit - Another corps I didn't care for too much, guard was very sloppy tonight.

Colts - Love the show, but get rid of the male baton twirler....who twirls for hours and hours.....If I want to watch a guy twirl a baton I'll go to a big ten football game! Is Cesario with them? Lots of costume changes and color!

Glassmen - Thought they were the hit of the first half of the show. A very nice carnival theme, and the balloon trick was just enough to get your attention. Love how they played off the balloon that popped!

Blue Stars - I love this show! Just enough of a theme, talent, and corps that was pretty on tonight! Well deserved score!

Boston Crusaders - I liked the show, and they were pretty clean, but not my favorite Boston show. I love the onfield warm-up, and the Conquest ending, but the bulk of the show kind of is just.......ok.

Blue Coats - Let me start by saying I am not a fan of the Blue Coats, but I loved this show! It has narration, a heavy, heavy theme, props, and mixes music from On the Waterfront to Rocky for a show about Boxing! But it works, works great, and they were smoking tonight!

Carolina Crown - Love Love this show! What's not to like? Talent everywhere, songs we have been listening to for years, and I must say, I think at times they out Phantom the Regiment, out Vanguard Santa Clara, and even show the Cadets what it could and should look like! Its old school, just a bunch of songs thrown together! That's what I paid for! To listen to some songs, played on a football field, with some damn good drill and guard work! Thank you Crown! I literally had to remind myself to breathe during the ballad!

The Cadets - I do not like this show at all, in fact, I may even say I hate it! Talent galore, no arguing that, but who can see it? Let's just get right down to it. I don't know Sarah, I don't care about Sarah, and I don't want to hear about Sarah's problems. I have my own problems, and friends with problems, I came to a show tonight to be with friends in a happy atmosphere, and to enjoy drum corps! If I wanted to see the Oprah show I would go there. I understand what they are trying to accomplish in the name of art, but you have to give me a reason to care about Sarah. Not just hey, here is Sarah, she had breast cancer, is married, and loves her job, and you know what she figured out? If you just snap your finger you can be happy!

NOT

Well I'm sure I will have more to say on this subject, but that's all I've got for tonight. Tomorrow will be better, parade day! And last time I checked, electronics were still illegal at the Magic Kingdom!:lmao:

And here you can see what great condition the field was in! They patched it together between the 30's, but other than that it was a mess! Dirt patches everywhere. The standing joke was Hoppy was gonna demand sod to be delivered before the Cadets would go on! :rolleyes1

He would too!

I wish I could have been there. I finally broke down and bought DCI Fan network and I'm lovin it! I watched 3 solid hours of drum corps with my best friend last night. You just can't go wrong! 2008 shows, 200 Cadets, 1996 Scouts, 1980s Star of Indiana Disney tribute show, all the way to 1976 Blue Stars malaguena. Anyone who doesn't have fan network should seriously consider getting it. It's amazing. Every top 12 performance back to 1975 and audio from 1972,73,and 74. It's the best 70 dollars I've ever spent

I look forward to youtube videos of marching in MK. What an awesome honor. have fun and be sure to report back!

my 2cents:

Was great to see you again Mike!
What a great night for a show, perfect weather after a threatening afternoon :goodvibes

What he said, I was so glad I got to witness history for Crown... well deserved!:cheer2: Now about the show. First of all, this stadium needs to be imploded, plain and simple! Reminded me of Mile High back in the 70's & 80's :scared1: yanno its bad when you are told not to leave the busses unattended at any time!

I didn't think there was worse parking then where I was :headache: Sorry you found it.

AH!! the spirit of CorpsNow onto the corps...

My view:

Teal Sound - Great Div 2 corps, they have a good show. Little sloppy, but hey it's July
Sorry I didn't see Teal, was hung up in the "lot".. did the show start a early or what?
Crossmen - Lacked GE, pretty boring, but kind of clean
Have to disagree with you on this one.... way to much going on and very sloppy!! Musically was just ok.
Spirit - Another corps I didn't care for too much, guard was very sloppy tonight.
sorry, I think I slept thru Spirit, no energy, ok score, sloppy guard
Colts - Love the show, but get rid of the male baton twirler....who twirls for hours and hours.....If I want to watch a guy twirl a baton I'll go to a big ten football game! Is Cesario with them? Lots of costume changes and color!
Do colleges still have baton twirlers? Good show!
Glassmen - Thought they were the hit of the first half of the show. A very nice carnival theme, and the balloon trick was just enough to get your attention. Love how they played off the balloon that popped!
Agree :)
Blue Stars - I love this show! Just enough of a theme, talent, and corps that was pretty on tonight! Well deserved score!
Agree again:) Boston Crusaders - I liked the show, and they were pretty clean, but not my favorite Boston show. I love the onfield warm-up, and the Conquest ending, but the bulk of the show kind of is just.......ok.
One of the best shows of the night. Lots of energy, great crowd responses. Glad they finally broke the 80's :cheer2:

Me being and avid "old style" drum corps fan, believing narration belongs anywhere but on the field, found it a pleasant surprise with this show.. not over done and not distracting from the actual performance, but I so agree with Mike.. Great Show!!

Amazing!! Crown has totally pulled me into their fan club the past few years! Medal worthy? I hope so :cheer2: :cheer2: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iwlNUuus_F8

WHAT HE SAID....... and what was with that ending
Well I'm sure I will have more to say on this subject, but that's all I've got for tonight. Tomorrow will be better, parade day! And last time I checked, electronics were still illegal at the Magic Kingdom!:lmao:

side note... the amount of corps using amps in the pit, is it really necessary? I honestly can't say it sounded any different then previously.

see ys at MK :cool1:

Hijacked this from DCP....thought it was funny!

Crown lets people know their show is ending with their hornline, percussion, color guard, and drill.

Cadets let people know their show is ending with their pit cart.
