So my family and friends are coming with me to the World next year as their Christmas gift from 12/29-1/4. We were planning on trying the DDP, and when I went to look on some info on it on the dinning boards I find out their is some uncertainty about the DDP in 2008. Now from what I can tell, those booking cash reservations at other Disney resorts have successfully added the DDP to their vacations that span from 07-08. Anyone added the DDP to their DVC point reservations for the same period?

You can add it but it's not guaranteed. Should the offer or program change it just won't be available.

If your reservation overlaps a new year, then the part that overlaps will be subject to the new pricing and guidelines when they come out.

For example, if someone booked the DDP for a vacation that starts in 2007 and ends in 2008 they might have two different prices and package conditions for the different time periods. The days that are in 2007 have an established DDP, but the DDP hasn't been announced for 2008. There is always a posibility disney that disney will not offer the DDP for 2008, even if you have it booked already.

This holds true for all packages and rates. Anyone who makes a room reservation for 2008 will be subject to the prices announced later on.

I'm about ready to make my reservations for dining for my Jan. '08 trip. Planning on doing the DDP. Does anyone know when the '08 prices/program will be released for the DDP?

Thanks

No, sorry. Disney hasn't even released the room rates for 2008 yet. I don't expect to see any info on the Dining Plan until after 2008 room rates are published.

:rotfl: I knew that one! :rotfl:

But I couldnt think of it. Thanks.

Thanks all! With a very vocal 2 month old its sometimes challenging to make calls!

So how come no one corrected me? :teeth:

I have it on good authority (thanks, JimMIA) that in 2007, the DDP costs $38.99/night/per person for ages 10 and older, and $10.99 per night for those ages 3-9.

I'd like to blame the error on a typo, but alas, I was just wrong. Sorry all. :)

Hey Carol:

I saw the "typo" with the cost but figured perhaps it was going up or something. Being the new kid who didn't even know what a DDP was in the first place, I felt it best to refrain from correcting anyone! :goodvibes

I think you should be over that "new kid" thing by now - you've been here a day or two, so I officially dub you "NOT NEW" as of right now, LOL. ;) :teeth:

There is a strong rumor on other discussion boards and on the DIS that the Gratuity will be removed as part of the DDP in 2008. That being the case the DDP may not be as good a deal as it is in 2007.

I have top agree here, it will still be a good deal thought. You will tip only at the TS.

The tip thing is just a rumor.

I wouldn't worry about it until the full details come out.

I believe that the DDP will still be a good deal even if tips were to be removed.

Well...it's a pretty strong rumor. Disney asked their union to approve removal of the gratuity from DDP and the union (most of whom are not servers) agreed in return for other tradeoffs.

Good advice. Usually, the DDP details for the next year are announced in August, so we should know for sure in a few weeks.

Whether DDP is a good deal or not depends on several things. One is your family composition -- if you have four kids under 10, it's probably a great plan for your family; if you have 10 y/o twins (@ $38.99 each) and both eat like birds, it may be an awful plan for you.

Another factor is your normal (or preferred) dining pattern at WDW. If you never eat TS meals, and don't want to, you'd be silly to get DDP. If you always eat TS meals and like to do character meals, DDP may be great for you.

Another important consideration to me is the length of the trip. We usually go for either 4 or 5 days. We like DDP for that short duration, but I don't think I'd get it for much longer than that. I'd just get tired of the standardized menus after 5 days or so.

And finally, "It depends on what the meaning of 'is' is." Some people compare the sticker prices off the menus of the food they ordered to the cost of DDP. I personally think that's a grossly inaccurate way to judge whether DDP saves you money. That's the way the Disney marketing kids get their bogus "40% savings!   "

DDP only saves you money, IMHO, if the cost of DDP is less than what you would normally spend, following your normal dining habits, and using whatever other discounts you have available to you.

There are other reasons for getting DDP, besides whatever cost savings you may find -- but I think a lot of people buy DDP for the mirage of savings they get when they look at menu prices (which are inflated to begin with).

That's easy math to do.

Our normal TS is a dinner for two adults and one child, and the usual bill is roughly $75 Sometimes, like at Le Cellier, it would be more. The 18% tip on $75 would be $13.50. $13.50 is about a 35% increase in the $38.99 price of DDP. Your math will obviously be different.

We normally only save about $70-100 in a 5-day stay, and we actually buy DDP more for other reasons than saving money. An increase like that would make DDP a wash for us at best, and we would probably choose to eat offsite (both for financial reasons and because some of the restaurants are better.)

I would hope that the removal of tips would lead to a decrease in the cost of the DDP, even by a few bucks.

With a dinner that costs (including tip) $88 dollars for 3 people paying roughly $88 for the DDP ($38.99x2 +10.99) still seems like a good deal. You basically get counter services and snacks for free. If you buy a counter service meal around $7 per adult and $3 per child you would be saving at leat $17 dollars on lunch alone. Add to that savings the cost of your 3 snacks around 2-3 dollars each your total hits around $23 per day.

I agree with you about the other reasons to like DDP. It is convenient for us and we enjoy dining at disney during our entire 10 day stay. We consider leaving disney property a hassle because we use DME to get from the airport and we don't rent a car.

As far a the tip rumor goes... I still haven't seen the new contract posted anywhere.

The service trades council still has the old contract up on their website.

Until I see it in writing, I would only be guessing as to how strongly the rumor should be considered.
