Wow! I did it! I finished W5D3...20 min. of running no walking!

I did not break any speed records that is for sure.

It was truly a struggle and I can't say I enjoyed it but now that I am finished I am feeling really good about it.

There were several times during the run that I wanted to walk so bad but I kept going knowing that if I did walk I would have to report back here to you all that I had walked and I would have disappointed myself! This message board is a great way to remain accountable!!! My ankles are a little sore and feel tight. Advil will be my friend today.

During the run both of my ankles (the area on the outside of my ankle that runs up my ankle bone and around the back of my foot) hurt and felt really stiff. After the first 8 min. I stopped for 5 sec or so to try to stretch the area but it was worse after stretching, I almost didn't stop to stretch thinking that it would be cheating but I thought if I don't I may not be able to continue and as it worked out I am hoping that bit of stretching was helpful.

Thankfully about half way through they stopped hurting. I am still in Orlando and even though it is not too humid I can tell a difference from the dry CA air.
I may try to do W6D1 on Sunday but if not I will for sure start W6 on Monday.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
I mean...heck...I was passed by a neighbor that was walking and TEXTING!
Why is it so different when I run outside?

I felt like this today! I knew I could never keep up my 'normal' pace so I slowed waaayyy down! Thankfully I was running a little faster than I could walk!

I found the one time that I ran on the treadmill to be easier than running outside except for the fact that you can't stop on the treadmill even for a second! My ankle was not sore at all and my breathing was much easier on the treadmill.
Most of the time when I go for a run I'll do 2-3 miles, but I've started making my runs be "runs for a purpose." We live .25 miles away from our post office....so I run to the post office and check our PO box or mail off a netflix movie and then just continue running. That's 1/2 a mile out of the way without even thinking of it as "running" since I'm going somewhere.
Also I'd HIGHLY encourage you all to find a running trail or some sort of path that you can run on to do your longer runs. I've found myself many times where I've wanted to do 3 miles or so and since I'm running around the track next to our apartment or I'm running around our small town...I'm like ahh I can't do anymore, but if I go to the running trail and run 1.5 miles out....I have no choice but to make it back and I always figure I'll get there faster running.
I love running outside.....the first few times we did it it felt like it was a freeing experience...like we no longer had to run and stare at the same stuff while we ran, but we could check out the scenery as we ran. We had a nice trail in Chicago that went along one of the local rivers that I loved because it was very scenic and there were always animals running around and what not. We have a fantastic trail here in Orlando that I always try to get to whenever I need a good run.
Thanks for the info. It is great to hear that you are still successfully running and I like the idea of running to do errands. I have always been a yo-yo dieter and it drives me crazy! I lose the same 30-40 lbs over and over again and usually can keep it off for a year or so and then it 'creeps' back up on me. I now have 20 lbs to lose (would love to lose more but I want to be realistic in what I can maintain) and I am hoping that running will be a way to help plus sensible eating...no more fad, get skinny quick diets for me anymore. I have a nice trail around a park in CA and it is a dirt path which I now know is kinder to legs and feet after running on concrete this past week here in Orlando. I'm with you on running outside...I don't think I would like running indoors on a regular bases...I need distractions big time to get through the running.
Forgot to post what I did today..
W5D3 done! I only ran at 4.5mph though. But, I did it. And I'm still sick.
I have to laugh, one week ago I was looking ahead to repeating week 4 because I wasn't ready for week 5..now I'm done with week 5. I had no idea that running at 5mph was THAT much harder than 4.5. It's such an extreme difference. Even 4.5 to 4.7 is different! But I'm glad I know this now so I can play around with the C25K and move forward how I want to. And if I had to do a 5K right now, I know I could do it and finish in less than ~45 minutes. Certainly not a good time, but it's something!
Great job!

You ran faster than I did...way to go! I couldn't imagine you repeating W4 because you were progressing and running for longer periods than required - You are doing wonderfully! I am not going to try to work on my speed until I've gotten a couple more weeks in. I plan to do a 5K at the end of W9 so I am hoping to increase my speed some especially since they post the times on the website! I can't imagine having my time now posted for ever more!
I loved the treadmill picture in front of the castle...I'll be thinking of that image when I am at the MK tomorrow! I have had to restrain myself and work this work and not sneak off to the parks...it has been hard - harder than running today!
liznboys, that picture is hysterical.
Just finished week 1, woo hoo. New shoes felt great. Now I'm motivated just to prove to my husband that the price of the shoes was worth it.
New shoes! I bought new shoes before starting and now I can't wait until I need to go buy my second pair because then I can really say I am a 'runner' and be more knowledgeable about what my feet and legs feel like while running.

Congratulations on finishing W1...the time does really go by fast and before you know it you'll be half way through the program.
