My ds10 is home sick today, as his half of his school, our neighborhood and the wrestling team. He had a flu shot but our area is getting pounded hard by another strain. When I was at the school yesterday for a book swap, the nurse sent 3 kids home in an hour and a half. I emailed DS10's teacher this morning to let her know he's sick and she said her son's sick too. Then I called a volunteer coordinator to let her know DS10 won't be helping his Student Council team at the 5th grade fun night tonight and her daughter's sick too but she sent her in with a fever. It really irritates me when people do that. We were at wrestling Tuesday and one mom said her son had 102 fever and she let him wrestle all day Saturday and Sunday. The woman next to her said her son was sick too and had "the runs" between matches. What's wrong with people? I'm hoping it doesn't go through the rest of our house and have been washing/sterilizing everything and making sure we all wash our hands even more frequently (we are already close to OCD about it).

We had a gun issue with DS10's classmate when he was in 3rd grade (he's in 5th) at the very end of the year. A boy that had been expelled from another school was placed in his class and made tons of trouble in a matter of weeks. He told kids in the class he was going to bring a gun to school and had a list of people he'd like to take down. One of the people he told, told my ds on the bus because she knew DH is a police officer. I immediately called the school the minute he told me but no one was there. I left a message for the principal to call me back about an emergency situation. I call DH to tell him. DH is a police officer in Maryland and works an hour away. I had not heard back from the principal, so DH drives home and stops off at the local police station. The police stations around here are really rinky dink towny folks and there's usually only 2 working. Like 5 in the whole department compared to DH's 1700 officers in the county. DH talked them into going to the boy's house and speaking to him/his parents. Meanwhile, the principal finally calls me saying he'd been at the dentist for 4 hours and basically I went above his head going to the police and could have done things differently?!?
I told him that I bet the parents of Columbine victims wish someone had gone above someone's head. He told me lots of kids have guns up here and that he was just all talk and a trouble maker. He said his parents said he didn't have access to guns. I told him I wasn't taking any chances and that he should thank my son for coming forward to an adult. My DH asked the police to sit at the school the next morning for peace of mind for my son and the people also that were told. DH brought our son to school. They did check the boy that made the threats body/back pack before school for a few days. He wasn't suspended or expelled but had to stay in the principal's office all day. The principal interviewed kids in ds's class and many of them had been told of the threat. Fortunately the boy left the school, but told his neighbor who was in the same class that summer he'd have just stolen his grandparent's or neighbor's guns. I never thought we'd have to deal with something like that and I'm really proud of my son for coming forward.

I'm really looking forward to trying the free dining plan. We're not going to go over the top, and I doubt we'll use all the credits - I guess it would be different if I had paid for the dining plan

We had to pay more as we're staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort (as the Pop Century and all value resorts weren't included on the UK free dining plan)

I think we're going to do

Cinderella's Royal Table - breakfast
O'Hanas Character Breakfast
Princess Storybook Breakfast (Epcot) (perhaps)
Chef Mickey's (Breakfast and perhaps Dinner too)
Tusker House - Breakfast
Yak & Yeti - Dinner (perhaps)
Restaurant Marrakesh (for me and Paul one evening)

We love the family style and buffet breakfasts, so we'll probably stick to them. I don't want to make any arrangements in the evening, as Kerry and Becky find the heat too much and like to chill in the evening back at the room with food from the food court

I'm getting quite excited about phoning WDW next weekend :)

You will LOVE free dining. We did it the first time it was offered in August 2005 and are hooked. We can't get free dining now since we belong to DVC and are staying at a DVC resort in August, but we don't need to buy tickets to get it.

We have been to just about every character meal and buffet and have loved them all.

So far, our August ADR list is:

8/22 Chef Mickey's dinner
8/23 Garden Grill dinner
8/28 Hollywood & Vine dinner
8/29 Dinner at Finnegan's at Universal Studios
8/30 Dinner at Boma
8/31 Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palace
9/1 breakfast at Ohana's

You've got some great choices there Danielle. As you're with DVC, have you already made your ADR's (are you allowed to make them earlier that 180 days) or will DVC sort them out for you ?

My favourite meal is breakfast at O'Hanas. I spent my birthday last year there, and I loved hearing Hawaiian Rollercoater Ride in the background and meeting Lilo & Stitch (how sad :rotfl2: :rotfl2: )

I will post mine next week when I have made them (and we've finally decided where we're going :thumbsup2 )

Mandy--

I can make my ADR's on the 24th. I called last week to see when I'd be allowed and that's what CRO advised. I'll call on the 22nd or 23rd to see if I can start though-- you never know. I have received conflicting advice more than once. When I called last week and said I'd like to make ADR's for an upcoming trip, the CM asked me what ADR's were so something tells me I may get a different answer from another CM about my 180 days mark.

I prefer to call than letting our TA or anyone make the ADR's. I don't like to put the trust in anyone else. I guess I have control issues with it?! I like to do them so I can only blame myself. That way I also know when they are done and if I miss out I know it wasn't because a TA waited too long. We had a AAA agent look for a quote on the EB repo and when I called her at noon on the day bookings began, she had not even called. Luckily, we also had a request in for Dreams Unlimited to get us a quote and they did it right away. It was a siginificant redcuction than what our AAA agent called us with at about 3PM and we told her not to book it. DUT also gave out nice OBC (we had $600 offered).

Hi all, Back from getting nails done and lunch. I haven't heard if anything has happened with the high school yet. Nicole talked to a lot of friends today and most said thay didn't attend school today and they aren't monday.

How was everyone else's day today?

I've just had a look at the PS Calculator (Priority Seating) and it works out as the 23rd February for 180 days out Danielle - I hope you are able to book what you want http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/pscalc/dispscalc.html

I'm not surprised that there were a lot of people off - there is no way I would've sent my girls in. Did you have a nice lunch ?

Yes we did. Thanks

The school left us another automated message 10 minutes ago saying school today went fine and they had police dogs sniffing the students as they went in. I didn't now dogs could sniff out guns. I thought only people and drugs. Monday they are planning on having the dogs and the police are supposed to parked in the lot for the day. She still isn't going.

Hey ladies
Happy Friday

Yay, it's the weekend, so I am very happy - though it may have something to do with the two glasses of wine I had at our fave restaurant bar a little while ago :rotfl2: :rotfl2: well it is almost 10pm over here :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

yes laurie we will. My school just left an automated message that there was a security problem at my daughters school and will still be open tomorrow. I'm like what could they be any more vague. So i called the polica station and they said that the school didn't even notify them and some parent did. A student wrote on the bathroom walls that he is going to shoot up the school tomorrow and if u want to live don't be here. Omg They are still having classes tomorrow.. Not my daughter

Hi all - Can you tell when I have days off over here? I am not on the boards all day!

Anyway, Michele - I have to read on to see what your decision was about this, but, I have to tell you - there was something on the news around here, I think in Philly or something, that there is a threat in a school and it is supposed to be on 2/29 - supposedly the numbers "229" are spray-painted around the schools or something.. I only saw it briefly -

I will read on and see what your decision was!

Oh - BTW - Survivor - GLAD Jonny Fairplay is gone - but, he was a bit much, right??

Oh man you've already had your wine for the night??? I always forget about the time difference.....

:wizard: Good luck at your weigh-in Laurie

I agree with Suzanne, go with your gut instinct. If it was me, then my girls would miss both days - there's no way I'd send them into school with any kind of threat going on

Ah yes - the weigh in - well, the good news is - I lost, but.. the bad news is, it's only .2 - which is nothing, but - I'll take it! I lost the few pounds I put on over the past 2 weeks w/the eating out and DCL party we had (and the drinking! :scared1:

Thanks for the 'luck' :goodvibes - maybe next week it'll be BIG! Yeah right, I already have lunch plans OUT tomorrow, and I don't feel like being 'good' -
:woohoo:

Hey seriously a "loss" is better than a gain even if it is small right?????? Good for you

Mandy ..

It is so worth paying for CBR and getting the free dining though!! I am jealous - I want to go to WDW too!! Sounds like you have your meals all ready to go -

Didn't they modify the dining plan a bit though? I love the character meals too! They are great to do on an 'off' day from the park!

Laurie < -- trying to catch up!

Now Laurie, I would've been thrilled with a .2 loss this week, but after our weekend away, we ate out 4 times and when I got home I couldn't stop eating Pringles - so when I got weighed this morning I had put on 3 lbs :scared1: I'm not complaining, as I had a great weekend - but I'm hoping to be back on track on Monday (isn't it funny, that we always start diets on a Monday ? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: )

Well done :thumbsup2

We love Ohana's too - Stitch is my DS(8) favorite - his whole room is Stitch, I think he might be getting ready for a change though.. Still loving Stitch - but, getting too old for the Stitch room. :rotfl:
