2007 Transatlantic and First Med cruises thread

Friday night would be the best now that I look at our plans, Disney Running meet on Sat night,

HI EVERYBODY:hug:
I didn't realize this group was here until Sandi mentioned it in passing and hten I asked and she just sent me the link. Oh, I MISS this group of people soooooooo much. When are we all sailing together again???? Seriously, something about hte chemistry of THIS group is aotu as magical as Disney. We click so well together (I am not finding such a connection elsewhere on the boards). I am so glad to knwo we can still chat now and again.
I am not responding much to specifics on the thread right now as I have not sat down and read much yet (I will tonight). Right now I am too busy happy dancing to sit still and read because:
Today I landed what for me is my ideal job!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :yay: :yay:   I am now the young adult librarian at our awesome little library which I adore and already work at as as sub. I am going to be able to keep the hours down to a manageable number for me and the kids AND work around their schedules. I will spend my "working" time sourounded by books and book lovers and doign things with teenagers. If someoone had asked me to define the perfect job for me right now THIS is what I would have written down:upsidedow I have been happy dancing for hte past two hours:dance3:

Great news Hadley! Glad you found us.

Hadley that is wonderful...good luck and enjoy your new job!!! It is always the best when you find the job you really love...
Cayla

Well I have made I through the first five pages and I have a couple of comments I want to post before I forget them;) Yes, these do refer to conversaions you all had 6 moths ago:rotfl2:

Scott and Lynn: No joking about the winds in Wyoming. A strong wind anywhere else is only a light breeze in Wyoming!

Cayla--I love that you are a registerd library! Too fun. We had about that many titles ourselves (but not nearly so organized. Dave put a floor in the basement a couple of weeks ago and as part of that EVERYTHING in the basement came upstairs. I went through all of it and nearly half (including many not so great books) is now in he garage to be sold or freecycled soon. I also redid both kids' rooms last month and weeded hrough their books as well.

Kelly and Deanna--We (Rio, Dave and I--Marika was in Colorado with her grandparents) just recently saw WICKED in Rochester (with Erik and Jason of course). LOVED the show. I really want to see it again and I really want Marika to see it. Rio is obsessed (my neighbor says no one could be more so--I told her she hasn't met Erik yet:lmao: ) and has decided he MUST play Fiyero someday.

I am back to reading now. BOY I enjoy the comraderied this group has:goodvibes

Editing to add:
I am 10 pages in now. Funny to see his group slowed down to 17 pages in 6 months! Good hing though or I would never catch up or keep up.
Deanna--Hurray for the new job for hubby! Will I learn about how much you like AZ in the next 7 pages??? Dave ended up taking another job here with the same company but a substantial cut in pay (and a 4 times longer commute--he used to work 4 miles from home). The good side is that he is under MUCH less stress workwise. My new job will almost exactly make up the lost wages of Dave so that will be a big stress relief (now if only heating oil would quit skyrocketing price wise *sigh*
Also, Erik and Jason's new landscaping did indeed survive the winter and really is very nice. I have to say though I was most blown away by their fabulously decorated condo. Erik, you should post some photos. We all just loved it and it is what inspired me to finally redo the kids' rooms. He and Jason even custom built most of their furniture and decorative elements. There are some lights which I just loved.

Editing to add just a smidge more now that I am all caught up!
Thanks for all the well wishes already :-)
Ummm-Deanna and Cayla--PLEASE book the Spetember Double Dip with us. You both mentioend it a few weeks ago and now nothing . . . We'd love to sial with you again.
Okay all you in shape runners. I am tired just reading about all of your races he-he
Ken, when is your next arthritis ride? I enjoy your updates in the mail.
Erik--if you run off to Cali for a shotgun wedding you better cal me so I can hop a plane and be there!!!!
Kelly--Hurray for Cali on the wedding front! New Hampshire is not quite so far along, but we did start with Civil Unions this year. I am proud to say that one of the 62 Civil Unions which were happened on that very first day took place right in our living room just after midnoght. Our theatre friends Chip and Brian legalized the union they have already had for 12 years that night among their friends (and precious few family unfortauntely). It was really a great night :-)

Hadley, Nice to see you up and over here again. I just got an email from Sandi and she had mentioned you and I was going through our WDW stuff and found my receipt from Kringla. After last year's pretzel hunt, you got me hooked, so when I went back this year I got one and I feel in love with the school bread. Plus I have been doing my home school research for our business marketing and am sending you something via email today. So, you've been on my mind.

I'm redoing Zoe's room for a surprise this year. We are letting the Pooh room go and she is getting a theme "From the Beach to Broadway." It's a Fancy Nancy style with a mix of surfer girl - I've been buying up the show cards from Broadway musicals for the walls (just got Wicked.)

Cayla, thanks for the info on the WDW resorts. It is exactly what I was looking for and much that I hadn't considered about gettin around. There are so many places we want to go at WDW, but it is getting very expensive to get there from here!

Hi Kelly. I was just dreaming about Kring La the other day:love: Mmmmm I can have one in Spetember!:cool1: Do you have my email adress? I will PM it to you in case you no longer do. I would LOVE to see your homeschool stuff (did you know Sandi is HSing Abby now as well?).
I bet Zoe's room will be adorable. Marika's new room was as surprise for her as well--I did it while she was in Colrodao. It has a surfer girl theme (but no Broadway stuff):

and

And Rio has a pirate theme:
DSCN0142.jpg

He really needs new bedding--but he can't find anything he really likes yet:rolleyes1
DSCN0144-1.jpg

Yes--he DOES have a DCL pirate night menu up--two actaully: one faciong each way:rotfl:

Hadley - where do you get all your energy???? I am tired just looking at the wonderful job you did on the kids rooms!!!

Kelly - as far as the cruise - not going to happen. I called the Dean of my school (Ramapo College of NJ) to ask about when my masters' level credits "expire" (not be considered in my transcrip any longer) seems it is this year. UGH. well - now I am starting school in a couple of weeks.

I am SO not ready for this. But, it will take me about 3 years to complete the masters in nursing education (I only take one class at a time). Most of the classes will be online, so that won't hinder my travel plans, however, this fall class will take more energy than I was expecting and a lot more money than I has arranged for. 550 per credit ( :scared1: ) at 4 credit a class - there goes the cruise.

Sorry guys. Wish I could go...but this will be a long haul committment and part of my life plan...so I have to do it.

Cayla

Hadley, Where did you get Marika's bedspread? I'm really having a hard time finding the right bedspread and that one is so close to the one I'm looking at on ebay (that is way over priced!!)

Cayla, I'm the epitome of the slow track to advanced degrees. I've taken 1-3 classes per year for the past 25 years. I'm finally 6 classes from completing my Ph.D. Still have 3000 hour internship and a dissertation. Shooting to finish before 50. So, keep moving forward! You'll get there.

Hi guys, I just got an email with "New message" about this board, which I hadn't been to in months. Just like Hadley said above, this board and group of people has such great energy, and was such a perfect intro to those of us like Hadley and ourselves to the disboards, that nothing will ever match it.

I've only read this page, but it's so nice to see familiar names and pictures. I don't quite know how to post pictures or anything on the boards. But if I did, I would post my own bedroom wall. STILL in a musical theatre theme--I have Chicago, MIss Saigon, Wicked, Evita, Chorus Line, Rent, Sunset Blvd., Sunday in the Park With George, Big River, and Rent hanging up. I have a few more in the closet not framed from the past as well, and three of them are signed by several members of the casts which I saw at the time, and my Sunday poster is signed by Bernadette herself when I snuck my way backstage to meet her when she played a concert in Vegas about 10 years ago!

Also have a Castaway Cay collage framed, and the tropical pic from the professional cruise pics that used to be the identifying pic from Debbie's website for me and Rob, hanging up.

Anyway, nice to see everyone, just wanted to say HI, and hope to cruise again with many of you! Take care.

Hadley, congrats on the new job, KEWL!!!

We have just been working on finishing hte basement etc etc that seems to be never ending.

Pff to CA and the Magic on Sat will be nice.

Good to hear and see what ya ll have been up to.

Enjoy and be good.

Later,

Cayla--Redoing the rooms probably took a lot less energy than cataloging a library! And certainly less than working on a degree while also working full time. We'll miss you on the cruise, but I can certainly understand why your educational goals must come first.:goodvibes
Kelly--Marika's bedspread is from Target, but she has had it for about a year and a half now so they probably won't be carrying it anymore. Yes, it took me THAT long to get around to moving them into different rooms and doign the paint, etc. to go with it:sad2: They always have an aisle of specaility bedding for kids and teens which gets some pretty nice quitls, etc. They seem to have a surfer girl theme coem thorugh about one a year. I just checked Target.com and htey have a different one now. It is similar but with more lighter pinks and not relaly any turqious. Marika would not have liked it because she doesn't like things that "girlie" but it may work for Zoe.
Chris--I want to see that photo of your room! I'll try to remember to include how to post a photo instructions in my nest email to you;)
Scott--Nice to hear from you.:) I am jealous that you will be on the Magic so soon. Did you do a Mexican Riviera cruise the last time it was on the west caost? We have done that itenerary several times on other lines but never with DCL.

I will echo Scott, it is good to see all off you posting, and catching up on news. Congrats on the job Hadley!

Yes and No, we did some ports in Mexico on the first Panama Canal Repo cruise. We are doing this one as it is the 10th anniversary of the Magic. Disney does not want to celebrate it, but we are!

Cayla - good luck with the classes!

Have a great day!

Hi Chris, you're ears must be burning. I've been saying that as soon as we get the plan done, we are heading your way next spring. Also, I was thinking I'd get in touch with you about the Iphone. We are thinking of getting one this fall and wondered how you liked yours now that you've had it a year. Hi to my guy Rob.

Hadley, Thanks, yes, I checked Target and don't like the one now as much as the one you have. Although Zoe does like anything pink and girlie girl. I'm thinking since the original plan was Fancy Nancy that I may go with the Shabby chic instead and just stay with some of the surf fun, but mostly the broadway. I'll keep looking. The one that I love is from Pottery Barn.

The library was a one day event...not a big problem, just moving a lot of books around. Keeping it up - well I go through it about once a year to be sure that all are accounted for. Luckily it is a 'non-lending' in the listings...otherwise I would really have problems!!!

I am going to be working both jobs while in school - I am STILL trying to pay off the 2007 cruises....they were SO worth it!!!!!

I will miss all of you on Sept....maybe with more lead time we could try to get everyone on a cruise in the future???

Kelly - try ebay for that quilt, one never knows when someone bought somethign that no longer fits the design. Sometimes they are even NIB (new in box).

Cayla

Hi to Deb and Susie (did I miss anyone else who has popped on in all my commenting? If so hi also!).
Kelly--funny you say Pottery Barn--I bought Marika the Target quilt because ot was so close to the one from Pottery Barn kids she had coveted for three years and was abotu 1/4 the price (and has held up to very well thus far I am happy to say).
Aye Cayla--You are the one with enviable energy: two jobs and school is way more than I could handle at this point.
Lynn and Scott--I can't wait to hear (read?) your impressions of the itenerary. I especailly want to know what you find to do and how you like Peurto Vallarta. Since my parents live there it is kinda liek a second home to me;) Actually they live in a nice small town just north of there called Bucerias. Bucerias remonds me of Puerto Vallarta 25 years ago--still has lots of smaller Mexican town charm, but a tourist town none the less: catering to the slightly more adventourous set (as PV used to) and less to the college drinking crowd.

Hmmm, so on Cayla's idea of planning ahead. We are thinking when onboard in September we will liekly rebook for the 12/05/09 cruise. It goes to St. Criox (I think). It has been too long since I saw DCL, Castaway Cay or even WDW all gussied up for the holidays so I want to try for that cruise. I'll post of we DO book that one and maybe some of the rest of you will end up joining us:goodvibes

Hello all!
Sounds like everyone has been really busy as usual.

Hadley - congrats on the dream job, it sounds perfect!

Cayla - good luck with all the schooling. I'm considering going back to school myself, but not sure I'm ready to take the plunge yet :rolleyes1 .

Scott/Lynn/Linda/any others - we gave you all a big wave on Sunday as we drove past the port in LA. We were on our way home from my family reunion in the Sierras - fantastic week - and headed to Irvine to drop DD14 off at Swim camp at UC Irvine - her first "sleepaway" camp:scared: . She called last night and is having a blast! Kelly, she has your numbers, but from the sound of it, she won't be calling for a rescue:rotfl2: .

We are looking forward to seeing Kelly and crew on Friday when we pick DD14 up from camp. :yay: .

We are also really excited about seeing DIS friends Labor Day weekend. I'll be doing the DL 5k with Kelly and our DD5's will do the Kids race together.:thumbsup2 .

Sadly, no DCL for us. We have a dummy date booked in 2009, but plan on pushing that out. :sad1: .
