2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

What is every one signing up for? I don't want to miss any of the special stuff that goes on. For you that have done hte member cruise before- should we do Palo for brunch & dinner, if so what night is best for dinner? Do they do any different night time shows or are they the same as the magic? Is there a desset buffet one night?

Thanks for your help!!!

There isn't a dessert buffet like on the 7 day and longer cruises, but they do have a buffet after the pirate party which is full of desserts.

On all the past member cruises they usually have a special show one night (usually the last). Over the years we've have: Andrea McCardle and her family in concert, Susan Egan in concert, and last year Jodi Benson and Jennifer Hudson in concert.

We usually opt for Brunch over dinner. There is only one day available that is our sea day so they go fast online, but remember that they keep some open for boarding day as well.

PDFG and all who need it.

Have a great Sunday everyone -

Lots of decisions to figure out before July 23rd. If there is something you can't do online, you'll be able to book it onboard - the first day.

I haven't been able to stay up for the late night buffet up on Deck 9 for a couple of cruises this past year. The day just tires we out too much. I'm not too much of a dessert eater, so I guess that is why I don't worry about it too much.

Joannel:

Do you shut your pool down during the cool months?? Our pool is solar heated and it is so hot right now, I have to turn the solar off. It is actually too hot to swim in.

Member Gallery Update!

We have a few new updates to the Member Gallery.

First welcome Stacey (bgsnmky) and her spouse Dawn. Stacey had posted a question on the main forum yesterday and I gave her the link here. I hope she'll be joining us soon.

Second since Kay added another cruise before ours she'll be up to 18 cruises before sailing.

Kay,

We have solar also. Until it gets below freezing we use the pool. Then we have to run it at night so it won't freeze. Have you tried running the solar at night to cool it off, we usually have to do that in August.

I love the desserts:rolleyes1 , that's why I have to go to the gym every day!!

Have a great Sunday.

Wow,
Only 7 more paychecks (my wierd way of thinking), and away we go.
Has anyone taken the catamaran - snorkling tour on CC? Is it worth the $?
Also, sometimes I need to walk with a cane, and it's difficult to walk up stairs, can we use elevators during the safety drill? (we are on deck 2).

We did the catamaran tour on the last Member Cruise and enjoyed it. The only negatives about it were personal on our part. 1) our snorkels weren't working right (we brought our own and found out later they had cracked) and 2) DCL moved us to a morning excursion and we missed seeing all our friends going out on the banana boat. Still we had a good time and saw a wide variety of fish.

As for the safety drill - hmmm I'm not sure on that one. I would think it you headed up early (before they sound the alarms) they would have no problem with your taking the elevator up. Also if you can't stand for long periods when you get there ask if you can sit on one of the benches along deck 4. I've heard of others being able to do that before.

Yep, you can use the elevators during the safety drill. There isn't a problem with that. Now, during the "real" drill, (and we won't have to worry about that) I really don't know.

I probably should not admit this, but I stay in my room during the safety drill. I find out where the station is, tho. They just leave a note in my room that states where we should go in an emergency.

I started doing that when I was having to use my motor chair and they would direct me to the back of one of the dining rooms and I didn't think that was too cool. It was really hard to maneuver around.

On two occasions they told me I could just stay in the room and there would be a note left for me. So that is what I started doing.

Of course, the other people in your party can go to the drill and just answer when the stateroom is called and they really won't know if 3 or 4 or 5 of you are there.

You can also do what Mary suggested. That is a great idea also, is to go right before the drill starts.

15 weeks, we are finally getting somewhere.

Welcome aboard Russ & Susan. We took our first kidless cruise last year on the Magic. We still had a blast. I missed the kids(both in college.) but it was fun. Not as hectic, since I only had to worry about packing for 2 and not 4.

Kay, have a great time, I wish we lived closer and could go more often.

Have a great Sunday, still working on the green pool, it's almost there, but the weekend is almost over:confused3

Trishy have fun, I love CA. The Grand Canyon is beautiful. Gas prices are Crazy out there. We paid 3.89 on I 40.
Joannel, try packing for 6 and for this cruise it will be 8 since my parents are joining us. DH and I can only dream of cruising by ourselves for the next 16 years, our youngest is only 2.

Kay, you are so blessed to be able to go on Disney so often, I wished we lived close by too but Jonannel is still closer than we are.

Welcome RevRuss and Trishy safe and fun travels.

Off to bed I go, I'm beat from redecorating the house this weekend. (moved the kids toy back downstairs and reclaimed my living room and finally completed the guest room.)

I don't know if I could pack for that many. I would probably start now.

I just booked an Alaskan cruise for next summer. They are so expensive, but it will be our 25th and my 50th, so you can't take it with you!!!! So now i have to learn all about Princess and Alaska. has any one been on Princess to Alaska?

have a great Monday!

Congrats on the Alaskan Cruise, it sure sounds like loads of fun.

Hope everyone had a better Monday than I did. I just got a letter from USAA (the other driver's insurance) stating they are denying my claim since the driver that hit me from behind claims I backed into him while sitting at a red light. Uggg, that makes me so mad because he comes running up to my truck asking me why I backed into him when I was the second car sitting at the light waiting for the green arrow. Why in the world would I put my car in reverse while sitting at a traffic light? Not to mention we were on a downhill slope so unless I had the truck in reverse and stepping on the gas there is no way (IMHO) I would have gone in reverse even by accident. His car has no damage but my bumper has his license plate screws indented into them (really no big deal but his attitude makes it a whole different story)

Sorry to go on and on but this one really works my nerves especially since I had all 4 kids in the car with me at the time and thankfully none of them were hurt since they were wearing their seatbelts and strapped safely in their car seats and he come running up to my window with an attitude about "why I backed into him"!!!

Theresa - so sorry to hear that. Come and vent any time you need to. That's the beauty of a cruise meets thread. It doesn't have to be on topic of the cruise 100% of the time. It is here so we can get to know each other. :grouphug:

I think Alaska is a great way to celebrate your 50th! We did Hawaii for mine!

I've never been on an Alaskan cruise but would love to some day (hopefully with Disney). I think Kay has been on a couple but I'm not sure which line.

Ohhhh - an Alaskan cruise sounds like a great way to celebrate those milestones! Let us know how your planning goes. We're trying to figure out which cruise to do - deciding between RCCL and Princess; inside passage or take it outside... Decisions, decisions. Yesterday on the Travel channel they had an episode on Radiance of the Seas on an inside passage - that's all we needed to get that seed planted and for us to start looking into it.

Theresa - I'd appeal that decision. I had an incident where a woman backed out of a parking space into the back of my car (she was leaving and I was arriving) - she claimed I hit her. Strange people out there. I fought her version tooth and nail - I won. I hope that it works out for you. Very frustrating to have to deal with people like that.

Getting really excited about how close this cruise is. I want to go NOW! Looking forward to hearing more about the "special guests".

Theresa- I would fight it too. Some guy hit me once whan I wans't moving. The cop didn't site him cause it was minor. Never again I will insist on the guy at fault getting a ticket. i was a pain to fight with his insurance. I finally got my deductable back but it too a while.

We chose the southbound cruise so we can do a four day by train first. I doubt we will ever go back- at least with the kids so we wanted to do more than just the cruise. But after a few days of board kids in the Grand canyon maybe we should leave them home:rolleyes1 I was hoping Disney would have gone next summer, but oh well. Maybe one of those new ships will be there, or Europe.

Are you guys reading the trip reports on the Med cruises? It sounds wonderful, but very hectic.

Have a great night.

yes, I have been there twice. Took me years to try and get there and then went twice in 3 months. Go figure..........

First, DH and I went in 2003 for two weeks. We did the land tour first, starting in Fairbanks. Then we did the southbound cruise. We flew home from Anchorage.

That way, we were so tired from the 7 day land tour, we had lots of time to rest on the cruise. Otherwise, we would have gotten home so tired.

We went on Royal Caribbean. No problems at all, but then again we had conciere (did I spell that right??) and they treated us so special.

At that time my DD was a TA and her company was sending their agents to Alaska so that they could sell the tours and cruises first hand and tell their clients where to stay and things to do, 'cause they had done it themselves. Each one could take someone with them and I had a great boss that let me take off again. It was paid for 100% by the TA.

Too bad I spent all that money on the first trip with DH.................

The big $$ decision I had to make was to take the helicopter tour over the glaciers. I think the tour was in Sitka. It was $600 each person. We ended up doing it and I never have regreted it. So awesome to experience and so glad we did it.

There was a store in Sitka that had candles that was in a glass container (square) and the candles had glitter inside them. My oldest DD got married right after and I thought of the candles so I called the store and had them ship me 12 dozen of them (144 of them) , in 3 different sizes, and we used them at the wedding on the dinner tables. The most beautiful thing I have ever done in that respect. The shipping to the lower states was horrid, but well worth it. DD never knew how much I spent on them.

You will have a wonderful time - enjoy the trip and don't hesitate to do something if you want to.

Hi Everyone, thanks for your feed back on my terrible day I feel much better knowing I am not the only one that feels I should appeal.

Kay, that sounds sooo good right about now. Hmmmm, could we get away with going an a Alaskan cruise then on the Member one? Naaa, but it's nice to dream.

Joannel, I am very excited for you and can't wait to see how your planning goes.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Therersa:

I'm a paralegal for 45 years now and have seen this over and over again. Not giving you any legal advice but, if the guy sues you, your insurance company will defend you. Many people don't know that is why you carry insurance, not just to pay you for a loss. They provide attorneys to defend you also.

Kay, thanks for the info but I doubt he will sue me but it would be my luck that he turns around and does. The kicker is I have Onstar on the truck and I pushed the button as soon I put the car in park and had them dispatch for an officer to come out to the scene. I waited for about in hour for the police to get there and after I checked on the kids, while waiting for the police I check out my bumper and go to get license plate, make/model and sugguest we exchange info with the when he informs me that is no real damage and he didn't feel it was necessary to exchange info. With this being said I just got back into my car and waited for the officer to come. That blew my mind even more than him coming up to the window asking me why I backed into him.

If you were in an accident where you were "not at fault" wouldn't you want the other person's information? By him hesitating to exchange info makes me think is was at fault and was now just trying to dismiss. Why would you lie about something like that when it is really not that big of a deal? There are so many way he could have gone about it and I was have just said "no problem, hope you are ok." but with that kind of attitude and behavoir I can't just drop it now.

Thank for listening.

As long as there is a police report and you have done what you think is best, leave it alone right now. Out of sight, out of mind. I know it is hard. Let him make the next move, as long as you and the children are not hurt.
