20060902--Eastern Sept 2nd, 2006

"YAY! Another last-minute packer! I was beginning to think I was the only one."

I have been a last minute packer for years. Been then all it seems I do is pack and unpack from the road trips. It helps that I have two of just about everything. The hardest decision to make is the blue suit week vs grey suit week and what ties am I going to bring. This trip is definitely a grey suit week with a great deal of sunscreen needed.

Ditto on the sunscreen, Chuck! :thumbsup2 I don't tan, I freckle! And Tyler is white as a ghost. LOTS of sunscreen for us. :teeth:

I also have spread sheet and have been packing for about 6 months, As I get stuff for the cruise I just hang it on a large clothes rack until I need to put in siutcase. DH and DD have been looking for things, thats already put on the rack, "nobody touches the rack", I tell them to just find something else.
We will be driving down from TN, we will arrive a couple days before and will stay at the Hampton on Cocoa Beach. If there is a hurricane will we be docked at a different location. Two years ago we had reservation at WDW and it was during that hurricane in Sept. We drove down early so we could get there before it hit, on Monday our Reservations started we checked in Disney magic had cleaned everything up and was in working order. We practically had the parks to our self. people didn't really start showing up untill Thursday

Hi Everyone - It is getting closer. I have been lurking. It isn't good to get behind on this thread. My DD's 17 and 14 have started their own screen names and are out there trying to meet up with some teens on our cruise. Just to catch up....

Pirate Night - some of us will be dressing up. I haven't quite talked my husband into it yet.

Formal Night - my husband and son will be wearing suits and the girls will be in dresses. Probably not overly formal.

Cruise Meet - we will look for everyone in the Promenade lounge at 2:30 pm

Anything else I forgot....Let me know!!!!

See you soon.

Hi Joyce,
When Frances hit in 2004 it closed Port Canaveral for a few days while they dredged the harbor. At that time, Disney, and several other ships went out of Ft. Lauderdale. What a lot of people did was a one-way rental car--they were afraid they'd leave out of one port and return to Canaveral (which happened for some). When Jeanne hit 3 wekes later, the dredging equip. was still there so they reopened the port within a day or so and i don't think anything had to move- we went on a 3 day Wonder right after Jeanne and had to look into what we'd do if we had to go out of Lauderdale instead of Canaveral. Our only problem was, Castaway Cay was closed so we missed it. I'm SO excited to finally get to see it this time, so I sure hope it doesn't get hit this year!

I just got done ordering bubbles, pirate tattoos and red/white/blue pencils, treat bags and glo bracelets from oriental trading company. Since we are going to be cruising over the labor day holiday I thought the pencils would be nice, and good for the kids returning to school. (plus the price was right! :) ) This is too much fun! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Actually Jeanne delayed both the Saturday departure of the Magic and the Sunday departure of the Wonder. Both left out of Port Everglades on Monday. We were on the Magic cruise which got curtailed and were bussed down to Port Everglades. The Wonder had passengers it had to de-bark and the Magic had gone to Port Canaveral the Friday night before Jeanne hit, de-baked her passengers and headed for the safety of open sea. Since she had no passengers when coming into PE, she had to wait until the other cruise ships rotated their passengers. We boarded around 7:30 - 8:00. Much later than DCL had hoped, but the situation was what it was. It was cool to be docked across from the Wonder, not something that happens very often. We could see her from our dining room window.

We have always been last minute packers. But this time my DW has started ahead of time. I do not know what has gotten into her. We leave for a week at Disney on Monday. I'll use this trip as a test to see if her early packing pays off. I think the early packing is just her way of hiding the new clothes she does'nt want me to know she bought.

bielen -- I just looked the DCL site and for dolphin excursion, it's age 3 and up to watch and age 5and up to participate. Hope this helps!!

Joyce -- What time is your family going to the dolphins, we are on the early trip, about 730am I think.

HollyTyler -- I am also a sunscreen worshiper, for my freckles have now created a base tan, that I might fill in with sunless tanning spray between the freckles!!!! My DH often threatens to connect the dots??

SIX WEEKS!! SIX WEEKS!! SIX WEEKS!!

(Just needed something to type for my 100th post!!)

Hahahaha! Mine are so close together, they're self connecting! And just this year, Tyler is starting to get freckles on his nose. He's always had a few on his arms and legs (despite my sunscreen efforts) and when he asked me how they got there I told him that's where the sun kissed him. He looked at me and said, "Well Mom, the sun sure has kissed you A LOT!" :rotfl:

That's right, Everglades, I forgot since I didn't actually have to rent a car and drive there (phew!).

So did you end up with a shorter cruise then since you didn't get out until late Monday? Did they compensate travellers for the shorter trip? Just curious. We didn't get anything for missing the stop at Castaway Cay, but I didn't hear anyone complaining about that, we just got a 'fun day at sea' instead. But losing almost two days of your vacation seems like it would warrent at least a little something.

If you have little kids, what do you dress them in for formal night? DS will be 10 months. I'm thinking just khaki pants and a button down shirt.

At Ten Months, I would think that you could take a great deal of latitude in your decision. Our daughter will be 12 months and I think we are putting her in a dress if her attitude is right otherwise we may opt for PJ's. Her brothers 4 & 3 will be in tuxes.

I'm not sure yet what Tyler (4) will be wearing. The evening before the cruise, he will be in his dad's wedding, so if they buy his outfit for that rather than renting, I may ask them if we can take it with us on the cruise. I would probably have to send it to have it ironed on the ship, but that's better than having to buy an outfit for formal night. :thumbsup2

Anybody do the "ironless iron" thing? I got turned on to it in another cruise group I'm in.

Just take a small spray bottle, put about a teaspoon of fabric softener in it and fill the rest with water.

All you have to do after that is spray down whatever item you plan on wearing and the wrinkles will miraculously disappear. I've used it on several trips now and I'm VERY happy with the results.

One thing tho. Try and get unscented fabric softener or you'll smell like a walking laundry.

Wow! That is so cool! I'll have to try it! Thanks for the tip. :teeth:

I'm so pathetic! To help easy my DCL withdrawal symptoms, I requested one of those DVDs they send when you're planning a cruise because I never had one. It came in the mail today and I'm DYING to watch it! I'm trying to control the urge until Tyler comes home from his dad's and we can watch it together. I'll bet we'll watch it every day until the cruise! :lmao:

Anybody else going nuts from the anticipation?
