2006 version: What have you seen on the Emerald aisle?

DebbieB said:
Arrived this morning. All I saw on both Executive and Emerald Aisle were cars, no vans or SUV's. A red Impala parked on the end caught my eye, 723 miles, sports model, so I didn't look too much farther. I saw some Monte Carlo's on Emerald Aisle.

Kind of a bumer, but the new Impala is pretty roomy. I would LOVE to see a luxury car on the EA, but Ive never heard anyone seeing one, and Ive never seen one, so I guess its wishfull thinking!!

I love this Impala, drives really nice! The trunk is huge. I had to literally climb in to reach a liter of sprite that rolled out of the bag on the way home from Walmart yesterday. It's just me and my niece, I didn't need a van or SUV so I'm happy!

Yes it does. I used it to drive to the Premium Outlets and Downtown Disney and I was thinking it really picks up nice. I was even thinking I wouldn't mind owning this car. This one is an LTZ, I think it might be a V6. A girl I work with just leased her second one.

We used an Impala last June with three kids in Maui and it was plenty of room for all of us. We even went to Hana in it!

LTZ would be the 3.9L High Output V6. They make an SS virsion of the Impala that has a 5.3L Vortec V8, and boy does it ever fly :thumbsup2

Returned home tonight. Walked by the EA, A side around 4:00pm. Only cars, no vans, no SUV's. From what I could see, the EA had a Monte Carlo, Impala and about 20 other cars.

Just got back from 6 days in WDW - booked intermediate with National. Dh and kids went to baggage claim while I hurried over to the Emerald Aisle to see what our car choices would be. Bunch of cars, a Saturn Vue(???) and 2 mid-size SUVs - Pontiac Torrents. By the time my family arrived the Saturn was gone but the other Torrent was still available. It was a nice car. Good size with a hatch in back - fit our 5 suitcases and 3 carry-on bags with room to spare. Relatively new - about 7300 miles - with a sunroof, leather seats, automatic seats -- very nice. The kids want us to buy one now. All in all we had a fantastic experience with National. :thumbsup2:

jennybobenny, I just pulled up pontiac (didn't see that suv before) and looks nice. Maybe slightly bigger than my santa fe. Sounds like you did real well! Thanks for the report. :wizard:

Pontiac Torrent is a very good car. Its really safe (espeically with the side impact airbags) and is pretty roomy for a mid sized SUV. Also gets pretty good gas milage.

Can you tell me what day of the week and approximately what time your pickup was? thanks

When we visited the Emerald Aisle two weeks ago, there were mostly Impalas and Grand Prix. We had reserved an Intermediate and took the Grand Prix. There were no SUVs or PT Cruisers. BTW, our flight got in at 10:00 am.

Grand Prix's are a pretty good score, i really like the way they drive...

I have owned 2 grand prix's and love the way they drive. Not sure about the present model, but mine have a large trunk but the opening trunk door had a weird curve with the window lower and you had to angle you suitcases just right to get them into the body of the trunk. Is this still a problem? Or is the trunk door now big, more open?

We were at WDW from June 20-28, picking up our EA/ER car about 5pm the first day. We saw a lot of Chevy Malibus, Pontiac Gran Prix's and a smattering of SUVs. The previous time we rented from National/MCO there had been a lot of Pontiac G6s, but I didnt see any this time.
We picked out a Buick Rendesvous(had about 5000 miles on it), mostly because of the leather interior & extra space. As it turned out, maybe we should have exchanged it for something else, but you know how it is on vacation - I didn't want to spend the time. I wanted to be having fun! Anyway...
The interior was *very* dirty with a large sticky stain on middle passenger seat(didnt; see this until we already loaded the car), bits of caramel corn(I think that's what it was) under most of the seats, a sticky spill all over the middle(passenger seats) cup-holder. Plus lots of black marks on the exterior, principally the back "hatch" & back bumper.
Plus!...
it leaked like a sieve. Not a good thing considering all the rain that Central Florida had this past week.
Plus!...
the last night we had it(left *early* the next morning), my DH & I noticed that the transmission seemed to be having trouble shifting.

It's funny, we started liking Toyotas when we got a Corolla rental one time. Now the Buick Rendesvous is on or list of "Cars we're never going to buy".

agnes!

Orlando is one of those "bad spots" as far as clean cars. So many little ones in the rental cars and the people that clean them dont have time to do a good job. The Rendevious is a nice car, but I can see how an experience like that could turn you off of one...

We landed at MCO on June 20th (Tuesday) at 3pm-ish.
Returned the car on June 26th (Monday) at 2pm-ish.

We ended up getting a really good deal (imho) - between the Emerald Club contract # and the $20 coupon offered on the website we got the Torrent for $124 for the 6 day rental. Needless to say I'm very happy with National right now. :cheer2:

Incidently, the actual mileage on the car was 7201 and it was spotless inside and out.
