No way, you know I don't go to Walmart unless there's a really good reason (like blinkies)!!!

Hey all, Busy at work... Gift cards this year for the holidays...

:jumping2:
We don't do gift cards for Christmas. We tried that one year, and my little brother got all bent out of shape. He said that it wasn't Christmas if you didn't get to actually open presents. He said that there was no satisfaction in knowing you had to go shopping. So, we give presents for Christmas. But, I have to say that it's getting harder and harder each year to find stuff. Now, he is ok to give gift cards for birthdays, just not Christmas.

Amy - we're the same way. Now that we have all adults we finally did get everyone to agree to a grab bag type drawing. You put in your list with 5 or 6 things you might want. Then whoever gets you can choose 1, 2, 3 or more of those things (with a $ cap in place). The one year we did give a gift card to my SIL I bought her a new wallet and put it in that. So she had something to open.

:rotfl: :rotfl2: I really was at Walmart!! It's amazing how that place is like a time warp--it seems like I'm in there for 10 minutes and it's really been an hour. The moms club I'm in adopts a family every holiday season. Well, since I'm famous for my shopping abilities :rotfl2: I got nominated to buy the kids in the family a few extras besides what was donated by our members. No problem right? I told my fellow board members I should be able to do it for $15 for each kid (2) and get them each a piece of clothing and a stocking stuff type item. Well, some treasurer I am.....I blew my budget by 33% and spent $40!! :faint: I'm going to get fired! At least it's going to a nice family who really could use some help this year! :wizard:

Speaking of David, we went to St Jude for his physical therapy appointment.
Hes going to be going 2 times a week until the 1st week of Jan.
if it dosent help, he will need to be fitted with a leg brace for his right leg and an orthodic for his left foot.
So prayers and good thoutghts would be appreciated

Your whole family will be in my prayers! :wizard:

No secret holiday....unfortunately......just a secret on how I did this while I'm at work...shhhhhhh!!!!

Is that where my tax dollars go? :rotfl2: Oh, wait a minute...I don't work.

I'll never even begin to admit where all those health insurance dollars when when I worked at a local HMO.

Not even close!!! I still have about 1/2 my shopping left to do.

I'm just about done with mine. I just have to get a couple of gift cards. For my sister, brother and cousin, I always get them something, plus a gift card so they can have the fun in shopping too. What can I say....shopping is in our blood.

That's SO awesome, Diana!!! We used to do the Angel tree when we were kids. We were pretty poor, but my mom always told us that we had more than some, so we should do something for at least one child. I plan on doing the same with my children when they get older and understand.

Hey all,

Oh, And karen... Here it comes...You wantedsome muck slung at you...

"I heard you were beautiful and an efficient parent. Your kids are always good, and you NEVER have a messy house. I even heard that you werea good cook and didn't slurp your soup. You Hand make the presents for all of your friends who rudely sell them on E-Bay for hundreds of dollars each. I also heard that you personally cleaned Don's Bus, and are friends with Mrs. Lips..." (Just try to live up to that!!!)

:jumping2:

Ahem, well I can say a few things about that comment -- O god what am I thinking, I have to live with the woman. WHY YES, Karen is all that AND MORE, (btw - we're child free, so I ASSUME you mean parent to our cats). Also don't forget the charity work she does at the local "No kill animal shelter!"

Yup - That's MY WIFE :love2:

Spread that $40 out amoung the members and it's really not that much more. Good for you taking on that task.

Our Cub Scout Pack has adopted a family for Christmas the last couple of years. This year it was a single Mom and a 11 year old boy. Our den was assigned buying toys for the boy. I know that about 6 boys contributed with gifts. We gave a ToysRUs gift card -- it's so hard to buy for a pre-teen boy without knowing what he might already have or his interests are. I hope he enjoys spending it on something special.

The Pack buys winter coats for everyone in the family, blankets, towels and those type of things. Dens are assigned to buy household products, food baskets, all sorts of things. It really is a nice gesture and I will say our Pack is pretty generous in their giving. It's amazing how good I feel helping someone else out.

I don't know, but I'm going to be 37 and DH will be 39 on the cruise and I don't consider myself old. But, I'm sure a 26 yo would think that I was old. :rotfl2:

Hey I'll be 37 too! Jeff will have turned the big "40". Maybe we should surprise him and celebrate that while on the ship.

I still can't believe I'm the "baby" of the group! I'm always the old one. I'll be 33 on Christmas Day.

Cindy, don't feel bad....I have a 12 year old sister. When we go places people always think I'm her mother. I guess I could be. My stepmother is 43, only 10 years older than me. :confused3

Hey don't feel bad. When Nick was younger and my parents would watch him some people thought he was their child!!! :rotfl:

The strangest thing to me is that when I was younger (much younger and not married), I swore I was not going to be the "old" mother in school. I grew up with the "old" mother as a child, my Mom was 37 when I was born, which back then was like a dinosaur. All my friends in school had younger mothers, I had the Mom who was the grandmother of grandchildren close to my age.

But, somehow life didn't happen the way I thought it would and here I am, 44 with kids (at least one) young enough to be my own grandchildren. Cameron's 11 so it's a bit of a stretch for him to be my grandchild, but Walker at 5 could easily be.

Gary has been asked many times if he is the kids grandfather. :rolleyes1 That tells me that some people just don't think before they open their mouths. I hope I never put my foot in my mouth like that -- there are just some things, IMO, that shouldn't be asked --- is that your grandchild, are you pregnant, are you married and pregnant. I'm just surprised that people comment on others lives sometimes the way they do  especially when they are strangers.

I've been there.
When I was still in school some people confused my poor dad as my grandfather (he is prematurely gray), and I've had people look at my mom and ask me if I was adopted since we don't look anything alike!

Now that you mention that...I have two uncles that live in FL who are 18 and 20! :rotfl2: The men in my family apparently like to get remarried to much younger women and have more kids. :confused3

I believe it. I have cousins that are going to be going on 15 while my son is going to be 11 so my son is old enough to play with my youngest cousins. My dad has cousins that are younger then me. Its a big family on my dad's side!

Just got in.My youngest had to see a doctor for autisum today.Yes he's autistic and needs more testing.I guess all next year will be more testing.

Well if everyones giving up their ages... I'm 34 and DH is 35.

I think that will get me up to speed now. :moped:

Is that young mentally or physically?

Hey in my family it's a number plain and simple.
It's not how old you are but how old you feel!

My uncle is only 5 years older than me. I'm the second to the oldest in my family. His kids are younger than mine.

Ok, here's where it gets weird in my extended family. I have an aunt that got married to her oldest daughter's ex-husband. And, it gets weirder, they both had children with this man, so they are half-sisters and aunt/neice. Now, THAT is weird!!!

I don't think I could do that. Something about that is just a bit to much for me...

The problem we have is that some people think I'm Mark's mother. That's always fun!

2 times on the last member cruise David my oldest DS was assumed to be my DH!!
Crazy.

I believe it. Recently my dad dropped me off to pick up my car from the shop and a lady that was there thought I was his WIFE! Yikes!!!
Nothing against my dad of course but yuck.
