Does anyone have any different ideas for neighbor gifts? We always buy for our surrounding neighbors from my business as they have the listen to the kids all year long, put up with the parents parking in front of their homes (as well as blocking their driveways sometimes :( ) and all the other good things that come with having a business out of my home.

We've done chocolate, fruit baskets and bakery goods in the past. I'm looking for something a little different yet my creativity is limited. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Howzabout a "Movie Night" basket? In a small gift basket, put in a GC to Blockbuster (or somewhwere similar), some microwave popcorn, some candy, and maybe some hot chocolate mix. Voila! A relaxing, fun, prepaid evening at home! popcorn::

2. Everyone mails every 6 weeks on an alternating schedule (except in the beginning & end), but you would have 2 CJs at a time and we end in early May '08

3. Everyone mails every 3 weeks, but you would have 2 CJs at a time and we end around Thanksgiving '07

It really doesn't matter to me, either way. The advantage to the every 6 weeks is that you may have 2 CJs at a time, but once you get started scrapbooking, it usually goes quickly. You will still only have 3 weeks to get both of them out, you just get a break after that for 3 weeks before getting another set. Oh, and you would probably save on postage.

I guess that I vote for the two-at-once plan. It really doesn't matter to me if we don't get them back until 2008. It may work out well, that way, since most of us are skipping the next Member's Cruise, but we hope to sail together in 2008. We could hand off the finished product in person to those who can make it. I also like the idea of keeping the costs spread-out and manageable. Things are a bit tight here at the present... :worried:

Also, I vote for the Yahoo group to keep in touch. I'm in one of those now, and I personally find it much easier to stay caught up that way, rather than through a thread. :surfweb:

Just my thoughts - I'll go with the gang! :rainbow:

I just wanted to let everyone know that Jacqui has offered to sell me the 6 points. This is a huge relief and now we can go to the first pirate and princesses party. Thank you so much.

:woohoo: Hooray for Jacqui!:woohoo:

We would have offered, but you know what sad shape we're in concerning points! :rolleyes1

Also, I would like a consensus on how people would like to stay connected for this CJ. I could create a yahoo group for everyone and we can post there of any going ons for the CJ. We could also just continue to post here, I just don't want to bother anyone that didn't sign up (except I do think that most have signed up). Or, we could send PMs, the only problem with that is that you can only send them to 5 people at a time and you can never tell who was on the distribution list.
A Yahoo group sounds good to me. I usually set it up so that I get the messages sent to me in a digest so I don't actually have to remember to log into Yahoo all the time. And since I check my email more often than go to (most ;)) websites it works out pretty well.

Ok CJ participants - another question for you. Since we have SO many participants we have a couple of options on how to do this.

1. Everyone mails every 3 weeks and we end in early May '08

2. Everyone mails every 6 weeks on an alternating schedule (except in the beginning & end), but you would have 2 CJs at a time and we end in early May '08

Let me know what you think.
I prefer option 2. I like the idea of working on 2 journals at a time but with a break in between. As much as I can't wait to see what everyone else does, I don't want to stress about getting pages done and getting to the post office every three weeks. I guess I'm thinking ahead to new baby in the house along with a toddler. I'd hate to be the cause of a delay in the whole system.

Another suggestion - couldn't we start a thread over on the scrapbook forum here on the DIS?
That idea popped into my mind, too. But the more I thought about it the less I cared for it. With a Yahoo group the people viewing our goings on can be controlled. But with a new thread here on the DIS the whole world has access to what we're doing and discussing. What I mean is we can share more personal info like full names and addresses in a Yahoo group but I'd never want to put that info out for the world to see.

:wave2: Psssst, Hi!!!

I feel your pain, David. I spent 20 years in retail management. It's probably one of the reasons I don't enjoy the Holiday season. I still have occasional flashbacks... :scared:

Hang in there! :sunny:

Also, the scrapping board is a pretty tight knit group. I'm not sure how much they would like something like a CJ opening up and not having it open to everyone and then having a thread like ours around for the next 18 months exclusively for us. I love those guys over there, I really do, and have many friends there, post there and participate often--I'm just not entirely sure they'd be too keen on the idea.

Don't feel bad, us too!

We did rent points to friends of ours. I'm not sure I would do it again, it worked this time, but I'm not sure we would do it again. I don't like having this much of a deficite.

Julie your photos are FABULOUS! I know where DD will be getting married. Should I save for College or a WDW wedding? Which is more expensive?:rotfl:

KT once said she wants a Disney wedding. On this last trip, Mike and I talked. We thought we could either throw her a Disney wedding, OR buy a DVC contract for her. Hmmm....ONE day of pure magic at Disney or 50 yrs?!?!?!? :lmao:

Julie the pictures are really nice - Magical!

The signed photo mat came out really nice - and I loved the caricuture pictures. Looks like everyone had a great time.

For the CJ I vote for having two books at a time. I don't understand the difference between option 2 and 3 other than #2 will take longer.

The Yahoo group would work great. It can be set up by invitation only (I think they still do that).

For the veteran CJer's, with this many people will a 2 page spread work for the sign in page?

The difference between 2 and 3 would be that with one option, each person would only mail every 6 weeks, instead of every 3 weeks. It gives everyone a break in between mailings. 1/2 the group would have CJs during one 3 week period, and 1/2 the group would have a break. Then, after mailing, it would switch.

I'm sorry for all of the confusion about this and I've had some questions, so I want to try to clear it up.

The reason that I've come up with these questions hinges on the simple fact that we have a HUGE group that wants to do the CJs. Normally, in a situation like this, most CJs would divide the group into 2 or 3 smaller groups. I know that this was discussed in Chicago briefly, the problem comes in that how could we possibly split up this HUGE group of friends. Example: How could I do a page in Cindy's book, but not Stacy's?? See what I mean???

I've been in several CJs, and all of them have lasted less time than a year. And, I know for the longest one (which was about a year), we were all ready to have it over and done with. So, I was trying to find options to make it doable for everyone, so that everyone could have one CJ, and not get burn-out trying to get them done. The fact remains that life does get in the way sometimes, and I want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with this committment for the next 1.5 years and to make it the easiest way possible.

I know that these CJs will be treasured pieces of art when we are all done, and I just wanted to make it fun (& easy) for everyone.

I hope that clears things up for everyone, and if not, do not hesitate to ask questions.

Popping in for the night.
Well the boys did pretty good at Border Book Store tonight.
The troop got $64 in donations which isn't to bad for just sitting around and just wrapping peoples purchases.

Amy - I like the idea of a Yahoo group and I forget which number option it was but I like having the 2 books at a time and a little break. Not that I wouldn't love to have my book back sooner but whatever the majority rules is fine with me!

I'l try to pop in tomorrow night after Nick's Band Concert!
Busy busy busy here!

I'm glad things worked out.

I have no idea what our current point situation is, but I was planning to check with David to try to help you out. Guess I should really find out where we stand anyway.

Julie, those are wonder photos/memories. Your photographer did a fantastic job. Thanks for sharing with us.

And once again I have to say what a beautiful bride you made!

Great pics! Ian looks like he had a wonderful time. I remember having my kids' parties at places like that. It was much easier than at home. Give him a belated birthday hug from me.

Rochelle
Thanks. As far as I could tell, EVERYONE had a wonderful time. And this mommy, well I'm just so happy that I didn't have to stress about anything because the staff there took care of everything!

I'll be sure to pass on your hug in the morning. I'd hate to wake him up now. ;)

Thanks, Amy, for the clarification.

I agree that as much of a treasure as our completed books are going to be, that maybe we should try and commit to getting them completed quickly. As freqently as this group travels, imagine how many vacations we will take between when we start and now. Being we are a group of friends, isn't there always flexibility if one of us were to run into a problem and no be able to work on someones book for some reason? Couldn't we just skip over that person at that time and then back track later? I know it's not ideal, but as you said, life does happen.

I'm with Stacy, I think I would personally prefer a little break in between books.

Whatever the group decides, though, is truly good with me. :thumbsup2

And, thanks for the coordinating!
