Something is going around down here because Madison has been running a fever on and off for 2 days now and she's got a nasty cough and runny nose. I'm going shopping with my mom at Disney on Friday, and Chris was going to take the girls to MK for the day, so hopefully she's better by then.

Amy, you make me so jeoleous!! I just didn't get my Disney fix when we were there!

I know!!! Emily went for her 5yr checkup on Monday and had to get 3 shots, plus the flu shot. Luckily, they took mercy on her and gave her the flu mist instead, so she didn't have to have 4 shots. They would have given Madison her flu shot, but since she's sick, they want her to wait until she's feeling better next week or so. And, Chris and I are scheduled for our flu shots on Thursday at his work.

How do all of you qualify for a flu shot? After I had the flu earlier this year, I mentioned to my own doctor that I wanted to get a flu shot come fall. He then told me that I don't qualify as I'm not old enough to be in the "at risk" area. I then reminded him that not only do I have school aged kids of my own, but I work with little kids everyday and he said, I still don't qualify. His feeling is that unless I meet the guidelines (which I believe are age 55??) then he won't allow me to have it because having the flu for me shouldn't be life threatening.

I tell you, though, when I had the flu, I felt more terrible than I have in a long, long time. Maybe not life threatening, but definately miserable.

I thought the only time you had to qualify for a flu shot was when there was a real shortage like a year or two ago. I know our office is giving them out free at the end of the month (HR couldn't get an earlier time).

Yup, you only need to "qualify" if there is a shortage. And yes, then you'd have to be high risk to get one (immuno-compromised, have asthma, elderly, etc)

I'd be talking to your doctor about it again and explain to him that if he won't give it to you, you'll switch doctors. That's a ridiculous policy!

Or go to Kroger, CVS, your church or any other number of places where you don't have to "qualify." Sounds like someone has a little power trip going.

That is amazing that you own your own childcare business and he wouldn't give you the shot. That seems qualification enough!!

We're getting it because Chris's company brings in people to give the flu shot to all employees and their spouses under the company's insurance. I'm sure it's because they want everyone to be healthy and work. I wasn't sure if Emily was going to be able to get one, since last year it was only for kids 2 and under, but her pediatrician suggested it and we jumped on it.

The flu is definitely miserable and can knock you off your feet for over a week. Who wants to deal with that?!?!?!?

I just got an email from JoAnn Fabrics with Cricuts on sale (reg. $249, now $50 off) and a coupon for free shipping)

If anyone wants me to forward them this email, PM me and I'll send it on its way. :)

That is a bargain!! Especially if the cute little case is the lime green rolling suitcase type bag. That's $99 everywhere! The cartridges are $89 and the regular price on the machine is $299.

Our Walmart has nothing cool like that.

It was a lime green case.

Our Michael's has the machine for $299 and at one time I saw a little sign near the machine that said you could use the 40% off coupon as long as it wasn't on sale. I wonder if they are still doing that. Each time I was in there the machine was on sale for $249, so it wasn't possible to use the coupon.

The Cricut was at your Walmart.
I'll have to check mine tonight when I stop after work but I have never seen it there. Those are great prices too!

The cartridges were near the sewing department but the machines and bags were on an endcap in a main aisle between the sewing department and the front of the store. The lady said when these are sold, they are not getting any more.

Cindy,
I talked to Mike. Without even pausing a milli-second, he said you ARE high risk and you SHOULD get the flu shot and your doctor SHOULD give it to you. We wonder if this is a financial decision. Flu shots aren't cheap and doctors have to pay up front for vaccines....so therefore they are out the money until they are reimbursed (either by the patient or by insurance) ....so maybe he doesn't want to have a bunch of money tied up in vaccines. :confused3 I told Mike I'd be worried about him---if he doesn't manage a flu shot correctly, what happens when there is a big prooblem??? :confused3

I need to get the figure from Mike....I thought onetime he said his office buys about $10,000 worth of vaccines a month....but I may be mixing up my numbers. :)

Michaels no longer accepts coupons on Cricut ANYTHING including the mats, blades and paper. It is now listed in the fine print of their coupons and the reason why I'm boycotting them. Joann and AC Moore do not accept coupons on the machine only. At first they did, which is how I got mine for $180 back in May. I can see not accepting coupons on the machine, but the mats and blades is ridiculous. I just bring my business to the other stores now, dumb move on Mike's part because I've never gone in for mats and left with just mats....I'm always good for $20-$30 of other stuff.

Still waiting for the scathing DVC article to be posted on Mouse Matters. Hmmmm....wonder what's taking so long to get it up this time. :confused3

I agree bad move on their part. When I was in WalMart, I just went in there to check on wire racks (which they didn't have) but I walked out of there with $40 in stuff I didn't even intend to buy and could probably live without......well except those oatmeal cream pies :teeth:

So, sell me on this Cricut machine. Tell me what I can do/use it for. What's your thoughts on a xyron cutting system?

Cindy - you probably love your Doc but in my opinion he's being a bit too strict on the shots. Go to your local health dept or walmart/walgreens when they are giving them out. There are NO restrictions right now on the shots.

My office gave them out in early October and I was glad to have it before the cruise just in case!

For those unable to physically attend the Michigan DIS meet, we have arranged to have a teleconference set up. The call in information follows:

Phone Number:712-432-4000
Conference Room Number:5811471

Conference call will start at 1:15pm EST, assuming no technical problems.

By the way, this is Mike - sanddune's husband.

Sounds like you will have quite a gathering on Saturday. Coleen and I will be there in spirit. She is working and I think I will be busy doing yard work. Supposed to be unseasonably warm here. I may try the conference call if I am stymied on yard work. I have been so darn busy catching up on stuff, I have been missing out on all the fun on this thread. I miss by Dis buddies.

Oh well I will try and keep up a little better.

David's office used to have someone come in to give flu shots to everyone, but with the shortage a few years ago they never got them. I'm not sure if they did them this year, but David found a place to get a shot for himself before we left for WDW in October. I still need to get one myself. And Ian, well I've been calling his pedi office to schedule one, but they still haven't gotten them in. They were supposed to get them by the end of September, but the last time I called the date has been pushed to the end of November/beginning of December.
