Today is a day for reflection so I thought I'd ask a few questions to get us thinking.

WHERE WERE YOU/WHAT WERE YOU DOING:


- on 9/11? (9/11/2001): Working as the desk officer (as I am today) for the police department at which I work. I remember hearing that a plane had struck the building and though it an accident. We were just wheeling out the TV from the training room when the second hit. I remained at work for the next week or so.

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986): I was in the Army at the time. I was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas working in the AWOL Apprehension Office of the Military Police. We had a television on in the breakroom and I remember seeing the explosion.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963): A mere twinkle in me father's eye. I was born in 1965. (my only attempt at levity during this post.)

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003): Working. I was on the road that day so I listening to the reports on the radio. I was much later in the day when I came into the station for one reason or another that I saw the video.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974): I was eight year old at my Uncle's cottate is Shoto, Wisconsin. I had no understanding of what was taking place.

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981): I was in a Sears store in Lapeer, MI. Watching the video on thirty screens at the same time.

WHERE WERE YOU/WHAT WERE YOU DOING:


- on 9/11? (9/11/2001) I was already at work when Mark called and said a plane hit the first tower. I was thinking a little Cesna or something. Went into the conference room and turned on the tv and the second plane had just hit. One of our Sales Reps was on a plane ready to leave for New York. She got lots of hugs when she came in the office later that day (the plane had never taken off).

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986) Working in the Sears Tower for Sears in the Home Fashions buying department. They made an announcement and we all ran to the conference room.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963) In grade school. The nuns were all crying and we stopped school to pray for the President.

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003) We had just landed in FL on our way to SSMC03. DH called his Dad to tell him we had landed safely. He was told the news and when he said "OMG" I looked up at the monitor in the waiting area. Very sad ride out to the port that day and one of the more somber DIS meets that night at the Radisson.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974) Shopping for a friend's birthday and saw it on the wall of TV's in the department store. We all went to the beach the next day and the radio was playing stories about it more than music.

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981) At home recoving from a broken ankle. I had gotten the cast off but wasn't cleared to go back to work yet. I was doing leg excercises and watching TV when it happened.

Okay, I have to go back 5 pages to catch up but I just found out some exciting news! Guess where DH and I will be in 4 weeks! GREECE!


DH received a FREE trip to Greece for a few days! He is checking to see if we can bring DD and how much it would cost. If not we will have a little getaway together with some other employees. Good thing I quit work!

Wow Roxann! Congrats to you!! That sounds like an incredible vacation! I've always wanted to go to Greece. Bruce has been there a few times, but his stay was on an aircraft carrier, not the posh digs you're staying at. He's told me out of all the countries he's visited, Greece was his favorite. He says beautiful isn't even close enough a word to describe the water there. It's number one on our list should be decide to travel to Europe, so take lots of pics!!

- on 9/11? (9/11/2001) I was at work when the first plane hit, running out the door to go to a co-workers son's funeral. He was 18 and it was such a sad day to begin with. Right before we left, they said a plane hit the WTC, my comment was "people are so dumb" thinking it was a little plane with some dummy that was trying to buzz the tower and clipped the corner or something. In the middle of the Mass--for you Catholics, the "Lord Hear Our Prayer" part--the priest says, for the terrorist attacks on the WTC and Pentagon, Lord Hear Our Prayer. We didn't know anything about it, we had been in the church since 8:30. When we had gotten out of mass, the world had changed. I spent the rest of the day scrambling trying to find my father, stepmother, aunts and cousins. Thankfully all family members working in the towers made it out ok but I had several school friends die that day.

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986) I was in 8th grade in the cafeteria, I remember a really old nun running in like full speed running--I knew something really bad happened.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963) I wasn't born til 1972.

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003) At the salon getting a pedicure because the next morning we left for SSMC03. I remember how sad it was looking over at Cape Caneveral that day.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974) I was like 18 month's old.

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981) I was in 2nd grade, I remember watching it on TV.

I was in CA visiting my sister, so sound asleep when the first plane hit. David called and within minutes we were all awake and glued to the television. We spent the whole day watching, like most everyone in the country. After a day and a half of that though, we had to turn the TV off for a while. Having a 9 month old (my nephew) and a dog to care for was a good distraction at the time.

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986)
When it actually happened I was in class. But once I got back to my dorm room I saw the replays over and over again.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963)
Being that I was only 20 days old, my mother opted not go downtown to see the president. I think if I'd been a little older though, I probably would have been somewhere along the parade route.

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003)
David and I were in our room at the BCV for our last day at WDW before boarding the Wonder for SSMC03. It was rather eering, looking across to Cape Canaveral from the ship.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974)
I was probably enjoying my last days of summer vacation before starting 5th grade. I remember all the hoopla, but at the time it didn't make that much of an impact on me.

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981)
That was my junior year of high school. It was big news in our house since Hinckley purchased the gun from my grandfather's store. He said the secret service showed up to interview him within 30 minutes of it happening.

Mary, I have a Creative Memories Consultant who keeps a wish list of items I'd like to have. When Christmas comes around, she has Gary's phone number as well as his email at work. Dianna just gives him a call and offers suggestions. She does this for a lot of people and all Gary has to do is give her a debit card number, and it's all taken care of. Dianna then wraps everything, boxes it up and mails it to the house.

It works great!!!

Unfortunately, the only CM consultant I know has the worse case of adult ADD I've ever come across! I gave her an order in late April. It was written on a post it note so she forgot who it was for. It was the middle of May before she ordered it. She sent me an email when it arrived and said she'd bring it by my house on the way to her daughter's dance recital the first week of June. She forgot. I called her last week about something else entirely, and she said, "Well, with the price of gas and all, I just decided to wait until I see you in Sept. (She lives about 20 miles from me.) So, long story short, I'll get my stuff in time to finish Diana's CJ!

- on 9/11? (9/11/2001)I had just taken my daughter to school and come back to the house to pick up a few things before heading off to my Bible study. I had left the TV on in the kitchen and came in the door to see the smoke coming out of the WTC. Then, as I was watching, I saw the second plane hit. On the way to my Bible study, I heard about the Pentagon on the radio, and saw a plane in the air circle around and head back to our local airport. Later I learned that all planes had been recalled. When I saw that plane turn around, I remember thinking "What is this world coming to?"

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986I was at home taking care of 5 year old twins and a newborn. The girls had been watching the Disney channel all day, so I didn't know anything about it until my DH came home for lunch and told us. We turned on CNN and watched the rest of the afternoon. When my girls went to church for children's choir practice that afternoon, they ran into the church yelling "Pastor! Pastor! Did you hear? The snow shovel blew up!" (my attempt at levity here)

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963)I was in the first grade. The principal announced it over the PA system. Being that it was public school, we couldn't pray, so our teacher had us stand in the middle of the morning and say the Pledge of Allegiance, something we never did at that time of day. It made an impression on me.

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003)I really can't remember.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974)It was the summer before my senior year of high school. I remember watching him leave the White House in the helicopter, but I was more concerned with my life at that time than the politics of our country, so it really didn't matter much to me.

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981)I was at home taking care of 10 month old twins. I watched the coverage of it on TV, but really had my hands full at the time. I do remember standing outside briefly and talking with my neighbor about it though.

- on 9/11? (9/11/2001) When I found out, I was taking Krystina to school....I went home and was glued to the TV till I had to go and pick her up. (It was very sad when got her...about 25% of her school was Arabic...the mothers were afraid to get out of their cars, wouldnt make eye contact, and just looked fearful for their lives.)

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986) I was in 4th grade, and we all gathered in the 1st and 2nd grade classroom to watch the shuttle launch...I went to a Lutheran school, so immediately after the explosion, we prayed for all aboard, and their families.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963)Not alive yet

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003)At home doing housework and didnt know what happened until a friend called me.

- on 9/11? (9/11/2001) At work for my former employer (I was in early that day for our office). We wheeled the TV into the conference room near my office and watched. I updated our General Manager and we were then evacuated before lunch - my office faced the runways of DFW and it was errie not to see planes for that time.

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986) At school - I remember hearing when I came home after class that day, dad told me.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963) happened 9 years before I was born. His funeral was held 9 years to the day of my birthday.

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003) Oddly enough standing outside our home here in Texas on the phone wondering what the heck that noise was... not realizing until I turned on the news what I heard.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974) I was 20 months old I have no idea

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981) At my grandparents as mom and dad were on vacation - I think in Haiti back before it got worse.

Is it as cold everywhere else as it is here? I got up this morning and it was 52 degrees INSIDE the house!!! Apparently I left 3 of those little windows in the bay window open all night long. Mind you they were only open about 4 inches each. No way should it be this cold!!! I guess it could have been worse the outside thermometer read 43.

I'm off to the gym now, busy day ahead. Last week there weren't any classes which means I sat around letting the fat pile on. Now I have to work twice as hard to get back into the groove.

So, you probably don't want to know what the temp is here, do you???

At home, talking to Chris at the kitchen table - TV was NOT on. Chris had been laid off from his job 2 weeks earlier, so he was taking some time off before looking for a new job, because I was almost 9 months preggo with Emily. My mom called to tell us that she had heard at work that a plane went into the WTC. We turned on the TV, and we just caught the 2nd plane crashing into the WTC. So, so sad!!!

I was in high school in our cafeteria. They announced it over the intercom and the whole room went silent!!

I was at my college for a sorority reunion. We happened to go into the student center and heard about it on TV.

I do want to know!! Because yesterday we decided that Bruce is in fact going to get the AP when we come down because we're going to plan a winter trip to the Tampa area to check out the "neighborhood" and see if it's a place we'd really like to live before he posts for a job!! And of course, no trip to FL would be complete without a trip to WDW!

The said on the noon news that places north of us hit 28 degrees this morning.

- on 9/11? (9/11/2001) I was home, getting read to take the daycare kids out on a field trip. A friend called who I was planning on going with to say something was happening in NY. I turned on the TV, in my family room, away from the kids. I was glued to it. I remember calling to school where Cameron was and being told it was on lockdown. I so wanted to go and get him to make sure he was safe, but I didn't want to panic him. So, we left him there to finish his day. My most personal memory is the lack of planes flying. We have planes not only from O'Hare but from our local airport going over our house and yard very frequently. I remember how eerie quiet it was after it all happened.

- when the space shuttle Challenger came crashing back to earth? (1/28/1986) I was at work and one of the managers came busting out of her office to announce it to the rest of us.

- when Kennedy was assassinated? (11/22/1963) I was 2 1/2. I really don't have any memory.

- when space shuttle Columbia broke up? (2/1/2003) At home, I remember wondering how that could have happened. Gary & I were fixed to the TV set.

- when you Nixon resigned? (8/8/1974) I was 13, I really don't remember any of it.

- when Reagan was shot? (3/30/1981) I remember wondering how with secret service that someone was able to get that close to the president to shoot him. I felt very bad for James Brady suffering the injuries he did.
